Through three games, Denver Broncos running back Correll Buckhalter led the league in yards per carry (7.4) among NFL running backs with at least 10 rushes per game.

The Broncos may not be able to rely on that explosiveness in the near future.

Buckhalter suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s 17-10 victory over Dallas and did not return. He was seen on crutches after the game, but Buckhalter told the Denver Post that the injury wasn’t serious.

“Just a sprained ankle,” Buckhalter said. “Nothing more.” He was seen in good spirits after the game, and X-rays were reportedly negative.

Buck finished with 55 yards on five receptions and 37 yards on six carries.

Great to hear the injury isn’t too serious, but will he be ready for Sunday’s tilt against the Patriots? RBs Peyton Hillis and LaMont Jordan might be able to spare Buckhalter and give him the time to heal fully, but I’m still hoping Correll comes back soon.

I kind of wish we'd stuck with torain instead of Jordan. I feel like we kept him more for his blocking ability than his running skills. Though to be fair LJ definitely had a good run or two today.

This is a bigger loss than i would have imagined at the beginning of the year… CBuck has displayed speed and vision and teamed up with moreno they have become a solid 1-2 punch… hears to hoping he is back on the field soon.
I hoping Hillis gets some carries although Jordan has done a decent job of churning some yards when given the opportunities.

UPDATED with good news — Buckhalter tells the DPO it's just a sprain, and was in good spirits.

That being said, crutches are crutches. Hopefully he comes back soon, but I'm not holding my breath for Week 5.

Time for someone to give Peyton Hillis a cuddle or a kick, whatever he needs to get his head back in it – he's not been at the races yet this year.

  • robtink242

LJ suck him and larry johnson, Darius Walker should be promoted from the practice squad. that or let Hillis run wild

  • herc_rock

Hillis is going to find himself on the waiver wire if he doesn't stop dropping the ball and/or making idiot penalties.

If Hills keeps getting penalties on special teams he may find himself on the practice squad. Hopefully he can work his way back into a meaningful role. We're going to need the Peyton of last year at some point.

Let's see…Randy Moss goes to NE after a car wreck in Minnesota and a train wreck in Oakland and becomes the consummate team player. Marshall acts like a 4 year old for the better part of his career and now seems to be growing up quickly. Common denominator…McD.

    Astute observation!

  • DBronFan

Astute observation indeed. I must say, Josh McD is giving Broncos' fans their money's worth. Makes you wonder, what offseason?

The NFL has always made a big deal out of making sure no further injury occurs due to lack of intelligence. When you sprain an ankle and you don't know how serious it is it could be anything from a hyper extension to a slight tear in the ligaments and there's no point in making it worse by putting weight on the foot. (talking from personal experience. I turned a 2 week sprain into a 5 week sprain just by trying to put weight on it and slipping)

Let's not get carried away. Brandon went up to people like Dieon Sanders, Shannon Sharpe, Rod Smith, and most importantly teammate Brandon Stokley for some much needed advice. I'm sure McD played his role but give credit where credit is due.

Secondly let's not start this playoff stuff just yet. While Dallas is a good team (and the Broncos have proven they are for real) they aren't the best team. Only the 6 best teams (in the AFC) get to go the the playoffs. Not to mention that we are only 1/4 of the way through season with a dark and scary road in front of us.
