BroncoTalk Game Balls

When the Broncos win, the BT Staffers give out game balls! When they lose we weep our pitiful lives away… No weeping this week after a 27-6 thumping of the Browns. Take it away fellas!

Elvis Dumervil

Game Ball: Elvis Dumervil. FOUR SACKS. That man has truly been helped by his transition to OLB. He was unstoppable and if he can keep this up he can have a killer sack total this season. And while the whole defense deserves game balls aplenty, he really stood out as a force today. – E. Halsey Miles

Ryan Clady

Game Ball: Ryan Clady. He did a tremendous job in pass protection as well as being the springboard for a myriad of runs by Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter that ended up positively for the Broncos. There is no doubt he is one of the best position players in all of football. – Christopher D. Hart

Brandon Stokley

Game Ball: Brandon Stokley. With Marshall under-used and rusty and Royal getting a lot of defensive coverage, Stokley (especially in the first half) was Mr. Clutch again and came through with a number of 3rd down catches that allowed our Offense to stay on the field. He may have only gotten 5 total catches, but they seemed to come on important downs and I believe his early success helped to open up the running game later on. – Jonathan Douglas

Brian Dawkins

Game Ball: Brian Dawkins. B-dawk for sure. Dawkins was flying all over the field scooping up fumbles and hitting receivers so hard they dropped the ball. Without Dawkins presence Elvis wouldn’t of had his amazing 4 sack game. Denver needed a leader and a maniac like this guy on the defense. – Mr. East

Champ Bailey

Game Ball: Champ Bailey. The only play I noticed Champ on was the jump ball Braylon Edwards came down with. The catch was followed by what looked to be a DDT by Bailey. Not noticing Champ means he’s playing really well. PS folks, the Bengals beat the Packers. DEFENSE! – J. Kenneth K.

Knowshon Moreno

Game Ball: Knowshon Moreno. This one is going to sound a little off the wall but I’m giving my game ball to Knowshow Moreno. He had 75 hard earned yards and was really the key to opening up Buckhalter’s big gain in the 4th qtr. You could see the rook willing positive yards on carries. He had one carry in the 3rd that was one very good safety tackle short of being a 70 yard breakaway TD. After being a holdout, he proved that he is willing to do what is neccessary to win games. – Josh Temple

Tony Scheffler

Game Ball: Tony Scheffler. Scheffler caught Orton‘s first second TD as a Bronco, which is nice, but he’s always been a baller. He gets this game ball because I’ve seen a real improvement in his blocking these first two weeks, particularly his run blocking. Did you his double-block in space on Brandon Marshall‘s 15-yard endaround? Scheffler completely sealed the left side when he blocked a man at the line of scrimmage, disengaged, ran forward, and destroyed another defender 10 yards downfield. Great job by the fourth year tight end (now please stay healthy). – Kyle

Who’d we miss? Dish it out in the comments.

Mike Nolan gets one from me. Man that D looked awesome, if we can get things worked out offensively (the progress from week 1 to 2 is already huge) the Broncos have a real shot at surprising everyone and taking this Div.

I was amazed at Dawkins, what an animal. I went to my first game and of all the things you notice in the stadium that you don't see on tv (like Marshall pouting by himself at the water cooler the entire 2nd quarter) Dawkins is all over the place, rushing on the field congratulating the offense and on the field getting everyone into position. Nolan and Dawkins have turned this D into something special for sure.

can we just give a game ball to the entire O-line?

“Scheffler caught Orton’s first TD as a Bronco”

lol sorry to correct, but if i remember correctly, i think brandon stokley caught a touchdown last week lol

I really didnt get why Marshall was sidelined made no sense. This is also killing Royal. Marshall demands a presence from the defense thats a fact. the Browns play 0 freaking coverage meaning the corners were on an island. Non of the brownies CB can dream to cover Royal or Marshall, they couldn't do it against Gaffney and Stokley. It even puzzled future H.O.F. Shannon Sharpe, the commentators and the NFL in general. We have the Raiders next and I'm sorry for McD if he thinks we can try that with #21(cant spell his name or care to). I also love the play calling of this game wasn't to many silly screen plays and we turn to our ground game for a change.
Moreno/Buckhalter combo is going run all over Jokeland. I still go with our trenches on both sides. Even though i doubt burger boy will through the ball 20 times.

Haha! Good point, didn't even think of that.

  • herc_rock

One of the local radio clowns said Marshall ran the wrong route on a play late in the first and then gave somebody some lip about it.

I think a large portion of Scheffler's TD credit needs to go to McDaniel's coaching, that was a brilliant bit of scheming. If you watch the offense set pre-snap, Scheffler gets lined up on a CB. He makes a postion audible which is more than likely determined by the player in that situation based off what coverage he is getting. Flanks out to the WR spot, Orton made the read that there was no underneath LB help. Scheffler wins that battle every time on an inside slant due to pure height and size alone.

My Game Balls could go to the whole O-line and Defense but I'll give individual credit.

Offense: Chris Kuper, came back played the whole game, and pass protection, and running game looked much better.

Defense: Elvis Dumervil, had a career game.

    We don't need Marshall.

  • Andpark

I think we need Marshall to do well at least to raise his value. Do something for a few weeks then we can ship him off to Baltimore or where ever and actually get something for him.

In the first quarter I think he mis ran a route (not knowing the playbook I am sure) and got benched. He can still be a threat but do your homework kid!

    Wrong. Period.

  • Ed

Marshall may be trying to force a trade once again by playing like crap. Heck, unless Denver franchises him (with a 10 million dollar price tag), he's not going to be a Bronco next year. It sucks to give the message to your team that anybody can force a trade, but at this point why not try to get something for him? There are players out there who can make an impact and don't act like a 5 year old…

  • Ben101

Andra Davis was a stud 2 i think he racked up 10 tackles and although the label of captain goes 2 haggan i definitley c dawkins and davis showing their great leadership time and time again!
