The Denver Broncos waived wide receiver Chad Jackson Monday, making room for Brandon Marshall to rejoin the 53-man roster. Marshall was reinstated Sunday, but the Broncos were granted a 54-man roster exemption to figure out who would be released to add their disgruntled wideout. Jackson ended up the odd man out.
Jackson, a former Patriot, actually joined the Broncos last year during the Mike Shanahan era. Assuming Head Coach Josh McDaniels had some say in Jackson’s status in New England as Offensive Coordinator, this is the second time McD has axed Jackson in less than 12 months.
Jackson, a fourth-year wide receiver, joined the Broncos as a free agent on Oct. 27, 2008. He totaled eight kickoff returns for 162 yards (20.3 avg.) and a 19-yard catch in four regular-season games for the Broncos.
