The Denver Broncos are bringing in free agent defensive lineman Vonnie Holliday for a visit this weekend, the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero reports. The former Packer and Chief was released by his most recent team, the Miami Dolphins, in March.
This will be Holliday’s second visit with the Broncos this offseason, and per the report, if he is deemed healthy the Broncos are expected to sign the 34 33-year-old to their active roster.
Holliday started at right defensive end in the Dolphins’ 3-4 scheme last year.
This move shows the Broncos still are not satisfied with the defensive line, and that they aren’t afraid to address it. The team traded for Pats DE Le Kevin Smith only a few weeks ago. With Smith hurt and expected to miss at least two more weeks, they’ve decided to look at another outsider rather than rely on their young defensive line depth.
All of this even as they evaluate their current group of players in pursuit of the final 53, due by 2:00 p.m. MT Saturday.
As you can see, Holliday’s been a good player in this league for a long time. His production speaks for itself. If he passes “inspection,” I have no problem with the Broncos making this move. He’d be the most productive defensive lineman on the roster.
Which is saying something else entirely.
