Brandon Marshall

This comes as little surprise, and confirms most speculation, but the Denver Broncos are taking calls on wide receiver Brandon Marshall after the disgruntled fourth-year player asked to be traded in June, Adam Schefter reports on his Twitter page. Schefter indicates the Broncos aren’t actively making calls, but are willing to listen to offers.

If the right offer comes along (Schefter speculates a first-round draft pick would do it), the Broncos would likely execute a trade.

Schefter’s always spot-on, especially when it comes to the Broncos. Again, little surprise, but it does confirm most people’s speculation about how the Broncos are handling the BMarsh situation. Still, unless someone makes a significant offer, the Broncos plan to sit on Marshall.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I’m to the point where i just want an answer. Not anymore build up.

  • Jon Krause

dude im sick of schefter i almost hate him ( not hate, hate, just really dont like) he ran Plummer out of town hes a pain and annoying but dude he must have some good sources!

  • Estes2SD

Let’s see what kind of trouble Bmarsh can get in over the holiday weekend.

  • kerry

    Jon:

why you sick of Schefter? because he is reporting actual news? or because he isnt writing fluff pieces about the Broncos alleged greatness with MCDaniels and Kyle Orton?

  • CB123

Well, if Schefter did in fact run Plummer out of town, then all I have to say is… thanks!!

  • Andpark

    1. Well duh we are listening to offers. Although I don’t see Marshall leaving now.

    2. Great long weekend argument, who you got Orton or Plummer?

Plummer was more mobile. had that sweet ‘stache and dated a Broncos Cheerleader or_

Orton who hopefully will be more accurate, less cool neck beard and chick is not a Broncos cheerleader?

Plummer still wins but here’s hoping Orton can be decent and on target.

  • Roy

While Orton may not have the god given physical tools as some other QB’s, one thing has to be commended: his work ethic. If you read any blog about who is always at the Broncos facility, one of the few names that always comes up is Orton. Kudos to him for that.

As far as listening to trades, McD said from the very begining that he would (just like every other team) listen to offers that could potentially make this team better. If that means moving a disgruntled reciever for another player or picks, so be it.

  • MILE HIGHS

I WANT MY FUCKING QB AND WR STUPID ASS FUCKER.WHAT A JOKE THE BRONCOS HAVE BECOME.BOWLEN GIVE THE BRONCOS FRANCHISE AWAY TO MIKE SHANNAHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anthony

Another educated comment from MILE HIGHS, congratulations!

  • jaisen cole

josh mcdaniels is screwin things up
give brandon a new contract or somethin so he will stay hes our only best offensive player

  • broncoNM

We better be listening to offers!… GMX/McD should be listening to offers and making calls. This player publicly asked for a trade… I agree with andpark i think BMarsh will be a bronco this year. But there are teams in search of a physical WR. See what they have to offer. If BMarsh wants a trade than we might as well listen to what every interested team has to offer.

  • jcampb72

If we trade Bmarsh we are screwed big time. Does anyone realize how hard it is to draft a true #1 reciever? Give him a new contract and stop fing around. Note to McD, don’t let your arogance blind you. You had tom brady you twit.

  • steve

well said to everyone. wtf kind of supposedly “proud” franchise loses both pro-bowlers because they demand trades. if pro-bowl players dont want to play on the broncos, we might as well move to oakland and change the team name to the gayders.

seriously tho who do we have besides royal??? gaffney, stokley..?? thats messed up we coulda been so good with competent management. now we gotta draft receivers and wait three years for them to develop. were not winning shit anytime soon

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

I hope BMARSH gets arrested… that would be the best conclusion to this entire situation.

  • http://www.myspace.com Clement

I am tired of changes. But if this has to happen let it happen. As a Broncos fan all I want is to go to the super bowl. It was screwed what happened with cutler. and now with Bmarsh its all crap. Mcd needs to sit one year to see whats happens with him maybe Bmarsh will settle down. Look what happened with CJ with the bengals. And maybe just maybe McD wont tear a team apart after 1 or 2 years every 1 or 2 years trying to make a super bowl team like shanahan

  • Justin

I should have probably said somethin sooner but ive waited. Im 31 years old and been a bronco fan all my life. But what kind of team gets rid of a hall of fame coach that brought 2 super bowls to our city (Mike Shanahan). And get rid of a hall of famer quarterback, and hes young at that (Cutler). And now will get rid of a (if the right opportunity arises) another hall of famer ( Brandon Marshall). Whats goin on on the inside. The team is self imploding!! Explain this, isnt a coinsadence. Three hall of famers left or are leaving!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

While it’s premature to call any of them Hall of Famers (especially given the Broncos’ luck in that dept), it’s clear that both Cutler and Marshall have Hall of Fame potential. And I wanted to give Shanny one more year.

    I hope BMarsh stays.

  • Justin

Yeah, its defientely premature, ill admit that. But they both made it to the pro bowl. And how long have theyve been in the NFL? Ummmmmmmmmm, teag they have potential. And also Shanahan beinf fired. Im just sayin. Does Pat Bowlen wants this team to suck? When has any team ever given up 3 potential hall of famers in ONE off season? This is outrageous!!

  • kerry

    jcampb72:

we traded Cutler but we werent screwed then, but if we trade Marshall we are now screwed? yeah ok. you know whats even harder? drafting a franchise QB.

  • kerry

    justin:

Shanahan got fired because this team went 24-24 the last 3 years and because Shanny won ONE playoff game in ten years. he got fired because his act got stale and his play calling was so predictable. it was time for a change. and Shanny isnt a hall of fame coach. he needs to win the big game WITHOUT John Elway. and he hasnt done that.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

I question whether Cutler and or Marshall are hall of famers … potential is nice, but lets deal with reality …cutler is not taking the Bears anywhere .. I predict they finish 5-11 .. book it. As for Marshall if he doesnt end up in Jail or robbing the local liqour store because apparently hes broke now …. he’ll remain with the Broncos unless we get a 1st and 3rd for him…

ASK YOURSELVES THIS: If BMARSH was on the Redskins and wanted out due to money , knowing all you know about him …. and his history … would you trade for him and his “potential” ?

  • http://www.myspace.com Clement

I wouldnt trade Bmarsh till his contract was up

  • JChase8410

You guys…can you please take a look at more than just the number of catches Marshall had? He isn’t a deep threat, his yards per catch ranks somewhere around 30th in the league, and his scoring numbers are average to below average. He was thrown to FAR more than any other receiver in the NFL (taking receptions away from other OPEN receivers) , but still didn’t have the most catches. He is a posession receiver more than a true #1.

IMO people look at the number of catches and label him great, without looking at the Rest of the facts. The only reason the defenses played him as a number 1 receiver is that they knew Cutler would forcefeed him balls no matter what scheme they were in.

Don’t be blinded by the popularity contest that is the pro-bowl ballot. He has a mountain of upside, and I want him on my team, but him leaving is not the end of the world.

Now comes my weekly argument starter…I have read here how Marshall’s numbers will drop drastically this year with our waste of oxygen QB. While I don’t think Kyle Orton is going to be the savior of the team as some do, I also don’t believe him to be a terrible QB either. He is an accurate passer up to about 20-25 yards, and is good at finding the open man. If he is willing to find the open man, and spread the ball around, defenses will be reluctant to double cover Marshall. Since he isn’t really a deep threeat anyway, he should still get a lot of balls inside 20 yards against single coverage. He gets good separation out of his breaks, so against man coverage, he will be a difficult cover. He won’t score on a lot of big plays, but let’s face it, he only has 13TDs in his 2 1/2 seasons of boy wonder throwing to him. How much of a difference can there really be?

  • JChase8410

And if anyone worried about Brandon Marshalls “numbers” declining…what numbers are we talking about. The only numbers that are remotely “great” are his number of catches (terrible receptions per target percentage though) and his YAC. His YAC numbers shouldn’t decline, because that is on him, not as much the QB. His number of receptions will decline, but his production AKA scoring may very well be higher. This is an adaptive offense with coaches that are willing toake adjustments to the gameplan, which is the basis of my theory that his catches decline, but his production and efficiency are inclining.

  • jcampb72

Kerry, I didn’t and don’t like the trading of Cutler. I never said that. I have said give Orton a chance. I agree with you, a franchise QB is the most pivotal position on the field and the hardest to find. We don’t have one in Orton, I don’t think. Lets see what kind of magic McD can conjure with neck beard.

  • kerry

    Dee:

ill make a bet with you. if the Bears win more then five games, you never post here again. if they win 5 or less ill never post here again. deal?

  • http://broncomadness.com Jon Krause

    kerry,
lol u hate ppl dont u! haha jk – i hang loose and joke (dont get all over me 4 that) no i dont not like scheff cuz he doens’t say the broncos will make it happen w/ j mcdonalds and horton (LOL) i dont think things will go 2 great this year (idk tho) idk i just dont care for scheff i guess i take it back, hes a good reporter and is often right on… sooo… i just had a “dont like him moment” ok wit that?

  • kerry

    Jon.

no i dont hate anyone. your top post your name was in black, how is it in orange now? is that only for the hardcore koolaid drinking broncos fans?? J/K

  • Hansen

    All:
Did we have a #1 receiver during our two SBs? I distinctly recall Rod saying “whats a number 1 receiver?” So do you think he was a #1? Or did we have two unselfish talented receivers with Rod and Ed (both of whom caught the ball and ran forward)? What won those SBs was an O-line opening holes for TD. Did NE have a #1 during their SBs? I dont think they did. Then they got Moss but lost. Yes having talented receivers is important but teams have won without a #1.

I want BMarsh to stick around as long as he has a better attitude and stays out of trouble. But if he doesn’t then I offer this question to the forum: Is he worth a stud DT, or close to it? If he IS, then who? IF he is gone, then what do you want: Draft picks or a player(s)?

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

i agree with Kerry on something! weird. the Bears should win at least 9 games this season.

  • Brian

I find that the Hall Of Fame talk kind of amusing when regarding Cutler and Marshall. As anyone rightfully knows that youv’e a snow balls chance in hell of getting in to the Hall if you play in Denver . Ask Shannon, Randy, Terrell, ect ect.

  • http://www.myspace.com Clement

If you look at orton he has better stats then cutler and he will listen to coaches instead of risking interceptions 17 interceptions in three years not good but diffently not bad so if bmarsh wants to cry like to and cj then let him but dont let him go for somthing cheap especially when the only good player coming outta college this next year is TBo but if anyone knows he wont be a good qb in the nfl the only one really to pull off a duel threat besides mcnabb in his early years is vick but as for Bmarsh he needs so quit crying and just do his job

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Orton does not have better stats than Cutler.

  • jcampb72

Happy 4th of July Bronco Fans. And God bless our Armed Forces.

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

kyle…you’re absolutely right that Orton does not have better stats than Cutler, except in the W/L column. That of course could be attributed to the rest of the players(defense, ST etc.) on the team as well. Cutler will win chicago some games with his unbelievable amazing cannon, but he will lose just as many making some bonehead play and forcing things. i’m not happy he is gone, but do you HAVE to mention him in every comment you make?

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

sorry about that…your site, say whatever you want.

  • stav

Yeah – so back to Marshall please. They should sit on him for this year unless they are overwhelmed with a trade offer, like a 1st rounder and a serviceable WR, which you have to figure is probably worth the trade then. But to be completely honest, what are we all in love with? A repeat offender with a track record that projects to future arrest and NFL suspension. A guy who ranks in the top five the last two years in drops. A guy who career yds per catch average is 13. A guy whose never caught more than 7 td’s in one year. A guy who fumbled the ball 3x the last two years. And like it was said above, is not a deep ball threat. Not to mention his off-field mishaps outside of DUI’s and women-beating, forearm injury/the catalyst of the crap that led to the New Year’s murder of D-Will, what are we SOOOO in love with? He is a talent, but at what risk to the team? A big risk I think.

My final thought comes to, if a team is stupidest enough to offer a 1st rounder and a player, or a quality starting defensive lineman and a 3rd, then they need to turn the page on this guy and make him someone else’s problem. Just think at what we could do with two #1’s next year. I’d rather have a quality DL for this year of course. Yes we’d have an even bigger drop off this year but with this system we just need someone who can consistently catch the ball and move chains. I don’t think McD is going to be a big fan of Marshall’s bubble screen catches that he reverses field on forgetting about his blockers, runs 50 yds east-west to pick up 5yds in hopes of the big play, instead of running up field and picking up 8-10 with simply his physical strength, that’s if he stays of course. Let’s just make a f*****g decision already on this guy, someone make a move and put this crap to bed.

  • anthony33

Say all you want about Orton vs. Cutler. No doubt Cutler has a better arm and more pure athletic talent. I also wish the Bronx could have resolved that mess. However, I would be willing to bet that Orton has a better year than he had last year and Cutler has a worse year than last year. The key is if McD can truly implement his system effectively.
Remember, Shanahan turned Plummer into a decent quarterback, with the best stats of his career, in his system. Same thing with several running backs that all looked like all-stars with us then went to other teams to never be heard from again. I’m not saying Cutler isn’t good, I just think we’ll see a different Cutler in Chicago then what we saw here.

  • Estes2SD

    Jaws Chestnut vs. Kobiashi

I say “Jaws” brings home the title once again to the USA with 70 dogs.

    Happy 4th.

  • roshon2411

    Kerry,

Shanny’s going to make the hall of fame. He won two SB’s. He will get in. Yeah they were with Elway but Lombardi had Bart Starr, Knoll had Bradshaw, Walsh had Montana, Jimmy Johnson had Aikman. Great coaches have great QB’s. Besides Shanny won a SB without Elway(OC in San Fran). How many SB’s did Elway win w/o Shanny? Yeah he was 24-24 the last 3 years and it might have been time for a change.. You add the 2005 year in he was 37-27 in 4 years. The guy average 10+ wins a year with Denver, 9+ after Elway. He’ll get in the HOF. Maybe not a first ballot, we all know there is a bias against Denver out there.

    JChase,

You rip on Marshall for only having 13 TD’s the last two years like that makes him a bum. He was only Tied for 16th among WR’s and T17 the year before. I can understand why he’d be pissed when 50+ Wideouts make more money them him. You know who else had 6 rec TD’s last year, guys like Steve Smith and Reggie Wayne. I wonder if their fans question if their true #1’s? I also understand your point the scoring is the most important stat, and it is, but another important stat is 1st Downs. He’s been in the top 5 in 1st Down catches/Pct% the last two year as well. The guy moves the chains. He is clearly a number one receiver. If anyone needs to score more td’s it’s the RB’s. That is where this o-line needs to improve. Overall this line improved greatly b/t 2007 and 2008 with their pass protection, going from 32 sacks in 07 to 12. But they only had 15 TD’s rushing last year and 10 the year before. It’s a top 10 line but not top 5.

    Anthony,

Your right Orton probably will have better stats than last year. And I hope so, one 300 yard passing game and 2,900 yards in pass happy league isn’t going to cut it, and Cutler’s not going to have the same numbers he had last year. But the one stat that Orton has over Cutler is the W-L stat. Question is do you think, Orton will have a better record this year? I think will find out real early.

  • roshon2411

    Wow, Steve McNair was killed?

    RIP Steve McNair

  • kerry

what a shame. i always liked McNair. good QB, league MVP and a stand up guy. any more details? all its saying is he was shot.

  • Olen

Star receivers are the results of many people getting him there .
