Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall has asked for a trade from the Denver Broncos. If you listen to him or his agent, his wish is going to be granted.

On his official site, in a blog post titled “Clearing the Air…”, Marshall writes:

To whom it may concern. Life is filled with change, and where I am in my life now change is probably best. It’s hard leaving an organization ran by one of the best owners in all of sports, and someone who’s been there for me through my ups and downs. The hardest thing was hearing Mr. B wish me luck in the future, but we both came to the conclusion that this is probably the best thing for me to grow on and off the field.

I thank the Denver fans who embraced my emotion and play on the field and showing me love every time I step outside my door.

So, according to Marshall and his agent, his meeting with Owner Pat Bowlen left little question as to his future with the team: there is none. Meanwhile, Head Coach Josh McDaniels told the Denver Post that discussions will continue, and he expects Marshall in training camp.

Who’s running the show here, Bowlen or McDaniels? We may soon find out…

Should the Broncos trade Brandon Marshall?

its obvious NOBODY is running the show. a monkey playing the trombone can run a team better then this. Bye Brandon. you were great, but try not to beat any women on your way out of town. next up Champ Bailey and Ryan Clady will be on thier way out. stay tuned.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

I can’t disagree kerry. Geez this makes me sick.

    New poll btw.

  • jcampb72

I guess McD likes nobody’s over probowlers. Wow this guy is extremely arrogant, dumb, or an extremist believer in “the system.” I just don’t get it. He will be ran out of town if we go anything less than 7-9 .

  • kerry

thats what ive been saying since this dumbass jackhole was hired. he cares about the system and not talent. he wants warm bodies to fill uniforms THINKING his system will win out overall. because Belichick turned shit to gold with guys like Troy Brown, Deion Branch, Kevin Faulk and so on and so on, McDicklick thinks he can too.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

I voted Yes on Prop. 15, however, amidst all my misery I’ve come to this conclusion. The Broncos will attempt to negotiate with Marshall, Marshall is calling Denver’s bluff with the blog post and McDaniels is letting us know in coach speak.

That’s all I’ve got for now folks.

  • sam

I have said for the last year get rid of him while we can get something for him. Tired of sitting around hoping praying he does not get suspended or get some silly injury off field. Get something for him move on…………

  • merc22

I will only trade him for boldin, but if we trade him to the ravens for the 1st and 3rd…we should talk to the pats about wilfolk since we have an extra 1st round pick.

  • Jon Krause`

    keep him, pay him!
josh mcdonalds is either a genius or a fool, perhaps a little of both?

  • Andpark

Can’t handle it if we only get picks. We are in a world of hurt without a #1 WR, this season is shaping up to be a disaster. Why the hell would we allow him to be traded? Marshall for all his flaws I would still take over Bowlin. I cannot see what we can get in return that is worth the cost of him leaving. Can we at least give Orton a fighting chance?

  • Jon Krause`

If the Denver Broncos do trade Brandon Marshall, I’m going to Denver, to join (around) 70,000 Bronco fans, and we are going to
request the honour of Josh McDaniels’ presence at our party. We’ll be having him try on neck ties, as it will be a neck tie party.

  • InRodWeTrust

This is good news, just more of the house cleaning we all saw at the beginning of the year. Shanihanigans did not draft well the past 10 years, bmarsh is just another character flawed player with some talent. How well did #15 do at the lone pro bowl he has made? He sucked, and dropped all of Mannings 5 total incompletions. Pat Bowlen and bmarsh made this decision not Coach McDaniels. I think Jabar, Stoakley, and Royal will be more than adequate at WR, plus we still have Chad Jackson on the roster who might be great (if he can stay healthy). Furthermore we can trade up in value for bmarsh (who was a 4th round pick) it is a win win situation in my book. Even the venerable Rod Smith said Brandon was making a mistake.

  • http://n/a douglast75

This is killing me, I really think that the broncos should keep him and let him hold out, but if we can get a 1st and 3rd for the guy then good ridden to him. He has tied us all up in knots over his off the field issues and now he has the audacity to ask for more money…not today or tomorrow…no blame to McDaniel, this is a guy looking out for himself, with bad timing and no team heart.

  • jcampb72

merc bad idea about wilfork. He will be a UFA next season.

  • alm034

It’s not glamorous, but it’d trade him for Haloti Ngata straight up.

  • jeff

Sorry Brandon although I have enjoyed your performances I am trying to look at your situation objectively. I have been a manager for several restaurant chains. My specialty was opening new restaurants or cleaning up restaurants that had been run into the ground. First step is always to distance yourself from favoring those in the top positions just because they are their. Question them about their philosophies and look at their departments to see if that is the problem area. Discipline the best to get the respect of the least. (Discipline is something that is deserved not just retaliating out of spite!) When all fingers point to a person and say he is quilty and the persons defense is it wasn’t me step back. If a dance partner trips and changes partners multiple time and continues to trip, statistics say its probably the fault of the common denominator(in this case dominator) you have continued to talk about growing up and have put some effort into volunteer work, but it will be sometime before maturity is earned! With the changes in the way player contracts will be handled as of next year, your future court date and your history of making statements you have turned the corner your value on the market is in limbo. I would not be willing to pay high dollar to an injured player who has skipped mandatory meetings and came out of a meeting stating he wished to be traded all seemingly because of money. You profess that Denver is the best and yet are still willing to leave proving it is just about money. If I was coach of a competitor team I would hope you were released because no one would give Denver what they wanted. They got several positions out of Jay, do you think Denver would trade for less for their second best offensive player. They will pay you and fine you to sit rather than release you if you are healthy and be burned. If they release you it is because they truly believe that you are injured, and I can see their doctors defenses now. He changed his story when he injured his hand. We did not find anything wrong with his hip that was that bad, so perhaps he slipped on another McDonalds bag, or is he back to the time when he would not practice until Shanahan said you need to practice now!

Swallow your pride on and off the field. You have made enough money to live comfortably as an average person already. But if you continue to act as you have, your friends will take advantage of you and those around you will look at you as damaged. Look at Plaxico. All the talent, but no job. Look at Owens. All the talent, but no respect. Look at yourself, losing respect and maybe losing your job. A second chance is that, you messed up once don’t do it again. Everyone deserves a second chance, no one truly deserves more! Feel lucky if you get more!

I’d would like to understand why you pin this on McDaniels? He didn’t examine BM’s hip, he didn’t sign BM’s contract for him and he sure as hell had nothing to do with the CBA. He also had nothing to do with all the off field issues this clown has.

While I do think McDaniels made a rookie mistake with the Cutler trade talk, I like a majority of the things he has done.

I am not ready to name him coach of the year, but I am ready to see him actually field and coach this team for at least a few games before I formulate a strong opinion one way or the other. Give the guy chance. I cannot think of any rookie head coach in recent history under as much pressure as this guy, and yes, some of it he brought on himself, but I certainly don’t blame him for this mess.

Marshall, unlike Cutler (who is a great talent and obnoxious and arrogant) is just a dumb ass.

Also, since when did Bowlen become an expert in dealing with player contracts?

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

This is another bad move by the Broncos and yes, if he does get traded it’s ultimately McDaniel’s fault. He is the coach, he has THE say. If he wants to keep a player then a good coach finds a way to keep the player. Period. It always falls on the coach, Shannahan said so many times through his years.

What I don’t get Is why they didn’t just give him a new contract in the off season. Then none of this happens. You give all sorts of crazy money away to players you sign then cut, players who don’t play, players who do play and play poorly, long-snappers you don’t need, running backs in their thirties and past their prime. We piss money away all the time, but when you have a 25 year pro-bowl wide receiver you close your wallet. Dumb. Surely Brandon isn’t without his flaws, but again we gamble on all sorts of guys on this team (the entire Browns D line we brought in). Why not gamble on a guy with this much talent?
    It’s just dumb…

And consider this – your backup quarterback would make more than Brandon? Just give him the damn money and move on.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Brandon Marshall is a punk plain and simple.

Look at his track record and you still defend him. What is the problem with fans defending the players regardless. It seems like most of you would defend Rae Curruth and say it was McDaniels fault if he was on the team. The guy wants six million a year for having two good seasons and several run ins with the law. How does that make sense? This is the second offseason in a row he’ll be in rehab. I say goodbye Brandon and I hope you don’t slip on a McDonald’s bag on your way out.

If you read Bill Williamson’s blog he’ll explain how this isn’t McDaniels fault. This really isn’t. As fans we all want to blame the head coach for anything and everything. Can’t you stop and think for a second? It’s obviously about money and a situation that happened before McDaniels got the job.

I believe that Denver shouldn’t let go of Marshall unless they can get a defensive player like Suggs or Ngata out of the deal. I will also be a little peeved if we get yet again draft picks for a high profile player. However, it will most likely be draft picks.

This situation is very similar to when Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson came into Green Bay and completely changed around things. The first season they went 4-12, the next season was an NFC championship showing. I’m not saying it’s like this at all but McDaniels isn’t the only person to do this.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

It’s dumb to give a Marshall money when he’s about one step away from an 8 game suspension. All he needs is the court to decide against his favor and BAM! Denver just signed a convicted woman beater who’s suspended for half the season to a 6 million a year contract.

Sounds smart to me. Brandon needs to earn it this season and then get his contract towards the end of the season like D.J. Williams did. Williams was also having a probowl season before he was injured. I don’t get why people crap on D.J. seeing how he’s an amazing linebacker who has anchored the team.

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

@East – No McDaniel’s did not start this, Marshall did. But only one person has the say. One person and one person only controls whether we keep him and make him play out the remainder of his contract or trade him. ONE person. Not Pat Bowlen and not the player. Only the coach. That’s the way it is in Denver. That’s been the way it is for years. If McDaniel’s wants to keep Marshall then he’s a Bronco.

Giving Marshall is a gamble. No doubt about it. He has character issues. But just look at all the money we spend on gambling. It’s a LONG LONG list that I don’t need to remind Bronco fans of. I say take the gamble. If it pays off you have a top 5 wideout for the next 5+ years. If it doesn’t then you lost money. Owell. I guess you could have spent that money on another long-snapper of 30+ year old RB…

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Mark,

The longsnapper’s name is Leonidas Paxton the III and his lineage hails from SPARTA! He also makes snow angels when he beats the Raiders. He’s alright in my book.

  • jcampb72

Ultimately I think this is shanahans fault for babying his players.

  • CJ

I think Brandon Marshall is selfish. How can he say that hes happy and looking forward to being 100% and happy to have Mcdanials. And then turn around and request a trade.

Look at the bright side we will get alot for him.

Im thinking of something along the lines of a Jon Beason

no more draft picks i dont want to see it traded to Seattle for a hase bin

  • J

Right on Mr. East. Couldn’t agree more!

  • Nicole

My,my. Be careful about opening the “floodgate” because it can flow for a long time. Sorry to say, but I don’t think that this is the end of it. I like Jay and BMarsh and I’d put them on my team anyday of the week. Money goes a long way with fixing players-Bowlen should’ve shook some Cutler’s way and held off the “storm.” I never thought I’d see the day whereas Denver went through this. Hope McDaniels can pull if off because if he doesn’t… it will be something.

  • Katch22

Wasn’t the Browns looking to trade Edwards??? Sounds good to me if a trade has to happen! I would give up Marshal and a 4th for Edwards. Both are big, fast, and have trouble catching the ball except Edwards isn’t in court every other month.

  • Pat

Read b-marshes blog replies. People are so far up his ass its disgusting. The guy hits women. I love what he did for us, but at some point its more important for this guy to get help. We talk about how we should resign him or trade him, but thats not important. Ill tell you what is. Making sure this a-hole stops hurting people. Douche

  • Tee

ENOUGH!!! We as fans have got to learn to calm down and not overreact to everything. This is a business, as much as we preach loayalty, to the players, coaches, and personal it is about money. BM is just trying to do what he and his agent feels is best and that is get paid, before the season. He has no leverage though. The team holds the power in this case. I liked Cutler and I like BM, but no one player is going to win you anything. McD is trying to bring in a whole new culture here. A team culture. And as much as I loved Shanahan, there is some things I like about our young coach. Of course he is going to make mistakes, of course he is not going to be a 2 time superbowl winning coach over night, but give it some time and be patient. McD and Xanders are our guys now, let’s trust them. I’ll take a 1st and a 3rd. The most successful teams build through the draft.

  • Tom9798

I agree it’s about money . . . and I knew BM would opt for the next train out of Denver just like Cutler did . . . the big money contract is not going to happen in this town at this time . . .

Asking Pat Bowlen for a trade unless you get the big money now . . . . is like telling Rumpelstiltskin that nothing has changed while you were sleeping the last decade . . .

    It falls on deaf ears . . . .

    Obviously . . . BM is in no negotiating posture . . . all the bad media . . . . teary-eyed woman with an attitude he left month’s ago wanting a ticket to the other side . . . .

Some crap about his miss-diagnosed hip . . . . his gun-slinger QB gets traded to the Bears . . . he’s not going to get the number’s this year . . . . geeeeez life is tough!

    Why not demand a trade? . . . see what shake’s out . . . . Maybe he took Jay’s advice to, “strike while the iron’s hot,” . . . .

Kerry . . . . some of your comments leave me laughing so hard I have to look down to breathe!

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com herc rock

You cannot give him a huge contract with all of the nonsense hanging over his head. You also cannot let him hold out until week 7, because he’ll walk next offseason and you get nothing for him.

The only solution is to move him now.

I hate the boy-idiot as much as anyone (even Kerry), but I can’t really pin this on him. Marshall’s been a punk diva since he stepped foot in Dove Valley. I saw this coming two years ago.

  • NathanH47

    PEOPLE BLAMING MCDANIELS:

Learn about how football works and furthermore about your team, because this has nothing to do with him. Brandon wants a new contract and this is protocol for a holdout. Chad Johnson has been asking for a trade for a while, same with Anquan Boldin, they hold out in the offseason and say things like they are done with the org but when it comes down to it, if we don’t get an offer we want for him, he’s still under contract for us. If he doesn’t play, he kills his asking price in free agency, so he’ll likely suck it up and play, even if he’s not happy. If he was still unhappy at the end of the season, that’s when he would likely be traded(after us tagging him). People need to chill out and realize how holdouts generally work in the NFL. There are multiple stars holding out in Philly and they’ve been considered to have one of the best offseason’s in the NFL, we’ll be fine, as Marshall will be a Bronco unless we get great compensation for him(which isn’t likely).

  • http://bt fierce

This whole debacle started between Pat and cutler. Before a new coach was hired, Cutler expressed his discontent with the organization, in turn lead to him being traded. McD had no chance from the get-go on salvaging the relationship with Cutler.

Now, BM wants to kick the broncos when he thinks they are down. The guy blamed his drops on “hand still being numb” from the mcdonalds wrapper incident. If this is true, it is likely long term damage that may not get better. If it is just a lame excuse then why did he drop all those balls.

yes, the guy has talents, and has shown glimmers of stardome at times, but how sure are we he can be 100% this year after hip surgery, or next year for that matter. This on top of the constant “droppies” and off field issues? Let alone all the things he is missing in training with the starters

I would normally say just sit him and fine the hell out of him, but I really think we should trade hime while there is a market for him, as the odds are against him. But do not give him away for less than a first rounder or a stud replacement (unlikely)

  • NathanH47

herc rock, wrong, we can let him hold out all damn season and than still tag and trade him. His value will be less, but he also won’t be able to expect an extension from a new team if he doesn’t play this year. His off the field issues are a problem for every team, not just ours. Brandon has VERY little leverage in this situation and his agent seems to be inexperianced. My guess is he’ll come to his senses, and we’ll work out a reasonable contract for both sides, if not, he’ll play out the year and we tag and trade him before the draft next year.

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com herc rock

He can’t hold out all season. He has to report by week 7 or week 8 or whatever in order for the season to count contractually. If he sits out the whole year, were back we started (meaning he’d still have a year left on his rookie deal).

If he’s holds out as long as he can, he has to come back halfway through the season, (and after the week 6 trade deadline), He’ll act like even more of a jackass, be a giant distraction for us, maybe get “injured” again. Then what? Tag him in the offseason? Piss him off even more? If you trade him then you get much less than you would for him now. I say get what you can now for a guy who’s been a giant headache, a PR nightmare and plays the least important position on the field.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

    Herc

If he plays in Denver he will play well. Look a Chad Johnson. He’s not going to hurt his trade value be dickin’ around.

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com herc rock

You don’t think Chad Johnson has hurt his trade value? The only owner stupid enough to even think about that clown is Dan Snyder.

  • roshon2411

    East,

Great comparison to the Packers. But your mancrush on McD has allowed you to misinform Bronco nation. One, Thompson came in 2005, McCarthey in 2006. In 2005, with Thompson and Sherman at the helm, the team went 4/12. Sherman was fired and McCarthy brought in. 2006 McCarthy/Thompson went 8-8, 2007 13-3. But you also felled to mention the great record of 6-10 last year without a HOF QB.

  • craig

Well, i tried to give McDaniels a chance. I wasn’t overly excited about the pick but thought since the offense was set and he could run an offense, all he would have to do is address the defense. With the Dawkins signing, i thought he was off to a good start, but it’s been downhill from there. The two best players want out. I’m sure once contracts start coming to an end more will follow. There is something wrong in Dove Valley. McDaniels has say, about all the players on the team. Wasn’t he the one who said we would listen to any trade talks. Do you think Pat Bowlen or Xanders said to him, I really like Matt Cassel, maybe we should trade for him? McDaniels is an inexperienced tool, taking my beloved Broncos down with him.

  • derek pourier

Is Pat Bowlen on the broncos side or is he a undercover raider or chief fan? GOT DAMN is guy as got rid of my favorite coach, QB, and now the best wide out in the league that’s right in the league. All in one off season. WHAT THE FUCK, there super stars. If the lakers owner listened to Kobe Bryant when he was crying around, the lakers would not be champs now. Super stars cry around thats what they do. Marshall had all the right to complain look at his stats. He was still getting pennies for playing like on all-star. When players do better then expected they should have the right to ask for more money. Without the dumb fuckin owner shippin them off for speaking up. Pat we were one or two more years away of a championship. Now lets see how long its going to take. If the broncos end up with a losing season this year, it will be years before we have a winning season. Then Pat buddy your going to have a entire bronco nation to answer to. I wouldnt be suprised to hear that another player would want to leave. Hell Im a Die-hard Bronco Fan and I want to leave Fucking Asshole, THANK YOU for fucking up our future. This is our team not yours. If you want the fans back you will make it work Brandon Marshall and sign a QB Orton is a backup so sign a starter. Mike Vick is still a starter sign him fucker.

    roshon,

I was making a vague comparison. I don’t exactly have a man crush on McDaniels, I just don’t see the point in slamming him when he hasn’t even coached a game yet.

Also, I’m pretty sure with Brett Farve the Packers might have done worse. Aaron Rodgers played much better than Farve did last year with a way worse defensive line.

    craig,
If you think one of your best players is a wide receiver than that’s sad for the team. Wide receivers are a dime a dozen in the NFL, possibly one of the easiest to replace. I agree that Cutler was one of the best, but when it comes to building a franchise a receiver is far from top priority. It’s really annoying how everyone thinks McDaniels can just pull a NT out of thin air.

  • craig

    East,

How many wide receivers had over 200 rec the last two years? Dime a dozen? Ravens/Eagles and plenty more teams have been looking for receivers the past decade. Your right, your not going build a franchise with a receiver but when as an organization with 3 Pro Bowlers last year, you sign the 38 year old to a 2 year contract but fail to show the 25/26 year old the money, you have fallen to the level of teams like Oakland, Detroit, and Cincy. I’m with Roshon, you’ve got a mancrush on McD.

  • roshon2411

East, Did you watch any football last year? The Jets and I repeat the Jets were one of the best teams in the AFC through week 12. But I guess a torn bicep tendon wasn’t a good reason to falter down the stretch. What was the diffence b/t the Packers in 2007 who went 13-3 and the 2008 team who went 6-10? The answer: Brett Favre. I do believe the Jets were 4-12 without Brett Favre and 9-7 with. The issue the Jets had, was Favre had to keep his streak going. If he would of sat out a game or two, the Jets would have made the playoffs.

  • Pingback: B-Marsh Bids Farewell On Blog | Predominantly Orange | A Denver Broncos Blog()

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Roshon,

I couldn’t disagree more. Favre sure looked good with Thomas Jones rushing for nearly 100 yards a game. If you look at Green Bay’s games they lost most of their games by less than 7 points and a several by 3.

It’s damn stupid to say I have a mancrush on a head coach that hasn’t even coached a game. I don’t think any of us have the power to predict the future so I don’t see the point of slamming him yet. The proof is always in the pudding and it’s not even off the stove yet.

  • roshon2411

Wow East, Jones really made the Jets better by his five 100 yard games. They went a sweet 3-2. As for the close games lost by the Packers. Aren’t those the games a QB should be winning not losing? And no we don’t have the power to predict the future but we do have the power to forecast. You listened for a weather forecast before correct? This team is worse than last year, thats why McDaniels gets slammed without coaching a game. You think its stupid to claim you have a mancrush on McD. Don’t you think it’s stupid to have blind faith in a coach who has clearly made some mistakes, in which the owner has admitted.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

I don’t have blind faith. I don’t have faith in Marshall at all, this is what this is all about. I’ll trust McDaniels over Marshall right now. Marshall will either get traded right now for high value or face a possible suspension, getting injured, wanting to leave after the season is over. If Marshall wants to leave then why shouldn’t be let go while Denver can still get something out of him?

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0-3-2345/Denver-has-relied-on-Marshall.html

That’s what his production right there.
