Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler showed up to his OTAs this offseason in high spirits. ESPN covered the whole deal. Mr. Cutler thinks that the receivers in the windy city are comparable to Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall. Something I believe just as much as that the before and after ads on this site are the same person. However, I wasn’t at these workouts. According to ESPN, who was there:

The new quarterback even staunchly defended his teammates. When one fan began asking whether a quarterback makes his receivers better or vice versa, Cutler stopped the fan before he had a chance to finish.

“You’re worried about our wide receivers a little bit? Let me put you at ease,” Cutler said, before explaining how the Broncos’ Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal were relative unknowns before their arrival in Denver. “Receiving-wise, we’ve got what we need here. You don’t need to worry about it.”

I had no idea that Jay single-handedly crafted Royal and Marshall into the receivers they are today. When was it that Mr. Cutler turned fresh Eddie into that beautiful route runner? Was it on that game changing 93 yarder that the corner got burnt on? Perhaps all the times he over threw him? There’s not a chance that Jay doesn’t hang Matt Forte out to dry like he did to Peyton Hillis on that third down pass against Kansas.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Jay was never a good quarterback or did nothing for the community in Denver, that’s quite the opposite. Jay Cutler was the host of charity dinners, his own show with Vic Lombardi, and even started up his own foundation for the fight against diabetes. All of these contributions are very respectable. Whereas, this statement below is not.

Then there was the little boy who wanted to know how many touchdowns Cutler plans to throw this season.

“How many do you want?” Cutler responded, knowing his career high is 25.
“Thirty,” the boy said.
“We can probably get you 30,” Cutler said. “I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.”

Cutler is obviously being facetious, but where’s the politically correct answer? It is my fault for expecting it. He did declare his disdain for Philip Rivers on a nationally broadcasted sports talk show and confidently stated that his arm was superior to John Elway’s. Bears fans should at least take solace that he’s focused on football right now.

“Good city. Good women. I’m single, so I could get in a little bit of trouble.”

Alright then, Bears fans can still take solace that he really delights in his new fans. Uhh… nevermind that. David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune wrote:

I know Cutler already has alienated enough small pockets of fans at various appearances in Chicago to produce a flurry of furious e-mails, such as the one from a guy at Wrigley Field last week who criticized the quarterback for waving off autograph seekers. “His lack of appreciation for fans will be his undoing in Chicago,” Glen. R. wrote me.

Man, who is this guy? The only thing I’m sure of right now is that Jay Cutler does not care what you think of him… unless your name is Josh McDaniels and you wanted to trade him.

I started this post a week or so ago, and attempted to complete it with brief surges of work. The funny thing is when I started this article all I had to cite was the ESPN article, then came the Chicago Tribune blurb, and now even coaching legend Tony Dungy chimes in. According to the Chicago Sun Times:

“I really think Chicago gave up a lot to get a quarterback who they believe is going to be the final piece of the puzzle,” said Dungy. “But I’m not sure he’s won enough to merit that yet. It may turn out to be a great move, but the jury’s out. To me, it was a risky move. But I think one that was done with the idea of beating one team.”

That one team being Packers. Dungy has been spoiled of having Peyton Manning his whole career, but that also means he knows about maturity, character and excellence, something he doesn’t think Cutler possesses.

Asked whether he thinks Cutler is the best quarterback in the NFC North, Dungy said it’s too early to tell.

“We’ll see about the maturity level, that’s what I would question,” said Dungy. “And some of the things that happened leading to him leaving Denver. That would concern me as a coach. That’s my question. I think he can make all the throws. But quarterbacking is much more than making throws.”

Wow, Tony Dungy sounds a lot like what Josh McDaniels was thinking a a few months back. By the way, McDaniels actually referred to Jay as Jay. There is a spatial rift brewing somewhere.

All of this said, I’m bored. How many days till training camp?

I believe Cutler’s arm dazzles and his tongue is like Dylan’s, he spits hot fire. Obviously I’m bias and this is just a blog, so I’m no expert. Bronco Nation, what do you think of Jay Cutler nowadays?

  • kerry

hmmm. well Cutler sure didnt single handedly make Marshall and Royal better. but his ability to make the deep throw and fit the ball into tight spots certainly helped Royal and Marshall rack up great stats.

Who gives a rat’s ass? Seriously.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

I think he is a great QB on the field but I also think that he is a little bitch with an attitude problem. In sports you can be ambitious and a little cocky, but cutler thinks that Chicago was a shit team before and now is a super bowl contender.

One word to describe Jay Cutler…. Hubris… excessive pride or self-confidence; arrogance.

  • DHB

It’s really too bad. Cutler is probably going to be followed by some level of controversy and confusion his entire career based on his style. That would be the case whether he stayed here or not. At this point he is a mixed blessing for somebody else. So be it. He is going to say something dumb and do something dumb. Then honestly donate ridiculous time and money to some worthy cause and throw some insane passes. Repeat.

  • DHB

BTW his open collar glamor shots pic there is awesome

  • http://Broncotalk Ben

I’m not sure if you can really say his CBS show with Vic Lomarbdi was a contribution to the communty considering there are numberous reports talking about him getting wasted before the start of the show. But all that being said its in the past and we now know exactly what we got for the Cutler deal we just have to see how each of the players pans out and exactly where Seattle will be icking next season.

  • Hansen

I think there needs to be a ‘Caption Contest’ for Cutlers glamour shot. All in favor say Aye.

  • DC

I don’t care about Cutler or the Bears. Moving on.

  • Olen

Let’s see if the receivers for the broncos improve after Cutler has left town also if he wins more games in his new place of business .

  • http://acdcboots.blogspot.com/ Fan from Spain

yeah that’s his real twitter and here is his blog http://thecutlerism.blogspot.com/
I like how he predicts the Broncos to go 1-15…

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

Peyton Hillis played wide receiver, fullback and tailback today in OTAs, according to the DB blog the D created more turnovers in one session than they did all last season and the front 7 look like one fluid position transition that could see anyone playing anywhere. Aren’t these more important?

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com herc rock

Are you people joking? That is NOT Cutler’s twitter feed, nor is that his blog. Sheesh.

    Some people’s kids, man.

  • Anthony

Is this Jay Cutler garbage ever gonna stop let’s talk about our team!! Develop a story of how mini-camp last week or about how the defense will line up this year or something. I’m sick of this Cutler garbage all the time people get over it.

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

What’s he supposed to say? My receivers here suck, get me some new ones…

  • Jack Burton

Jerk. I believed in the guy and defended him to any number of loudmouth hacks in sports bars. Now he can get bent.

  • stav

Under that photo it should say:

“Hi fellas, up late at night? Lonely? Wanting some male on male company? Just give me a call at 1 800 JerkOff (I am one and I’m into that), and let’s see if we can find a tight end to call our own. Call me.”

Seriously though, this guy will see how good he had it. Wait till Pace shows how washed up he is and Cutler is getting crushed in the backfield. Whatever, who gives a rats ass about this shithead, he’s no longer a Bronco.

  • Thomas

hahaha that picture makes him look like the biggest nerd ever.

  • roshon2411

It’s funny how Dungy said he would take a flyer on Vick because he could lead a team but throws Jay Cutler under the bus.

  • broncoNM

Honestly, That picture is awesome!…is that Cutler’s match.com photo? Hilarious.

  • Jon K.

    the oic is real funny
guys that cant be his twiter and blog it’d be SUCH a big deal if it was
    i dont think it is

  • thewolfman

Cutler to the Chi-town media: “Who are the five best quarterbacks of all time? Cutler, Cutler, Cutler, Cutler, and Cutler! Why?! Because I spit hot fire!!”

  • Jon K.

i think the question is not can marshall and eddie produce w/o cutler but can cuter produce w/o stokels, eddie, brandon, and tony, and dad, and the second best line in the league

hes got a nice line (ok line) and a good RB and a TE and Devin Hester as a WR so i dont think he’ll really do bad just say’n

  • Andpark

I am sure most of you saw this DP article_

    http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_12514983

“The quarterbacks, in the early stages of a duel to see who starts, often have found themselves on the receiving end of some profanity-laced tirades from coach Josh McDaniels. ”

How do you think Cutler would have taken being yelled at by McD? Orton and Simms need to prove something and have incentive to take it and play hard. I get the feeling Cutler would have not taken it so well.

I think this is going to be an interesting season and have pretty high hopes. Seriously don’t see why we can’t win the Div.

  • Estes2SD

The city of Chicago and Cutler are a perfect match. Introverted, deep fried snicker eating, Miller lite drinking, over rated 4 year university attending, Florida vacationing, non eye contact communicating, deep fried pork tenderloin obbsessing Hoosier transplant.

Trust me Colorado is better off without another confused “Anaidni” (backwards person from Indiana) in its majestic state.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

I am trying to think what I can type that will not result me in getting banned for life on this site …..

Jay Cutler , you filthy piece of crap keep my team out of your unwashed mouth … you sir are a piece of garbage.

Most fans I believe were in love with Cutler during his time here so we overlooked the person, for the player. I think back to his comments regarding Rivers, Elway, and others and wonder why we were so naive.

BMarsh I one thing, but I thought he liked Eddie Royal …. and to burn him like that is totally classless. I trust Tony Dungy when it comes to winning and agree with him in that Jay Cutler will never grow up.

Bottom Line: No one cared about Cutler taking shots about other players and teams when he was a Broncos, now that the shots are coming back in this direction we have our backs up.

These recent revelations only confirm to me that we made the correct decision getting rid of the m***** f***** piece of s****, go s**** Bus’s c*** and hopes he able to f*** the Chicago’s GM into paying you the millions you think you deserve you f***** c***, I hope you play in the preseason and we take you the f*** out!

    I think I’m done , good f***** riddance…

  • McCaffrey4Life

I really like the optimism from everyone about the upcoming season, but am I the only one who is worried that we went from a pro bowl caliber quarterback to Orton? I think Cutler was a crying baby too but he backed it up on the field. While there is no use worrying about the fact that he is gone, there is a lot of merit in worrying about what we have – or do not have under center.
I think that with Orton, who is a Dilfer-type QB (good as long as he doesn’t turn over the football and has an excellent defense and running game to rely on) at best we are a 5-11/6-10 team.

  • kerry

    McCaffrey4life:

you are not alone. ive been screaming since we got Orton that it was a terrible move. Orton is not going to be as good as some think. and drafting Knowshon isnt gonna make up for the loss of offensive firepower this team HAD. alot of people are gonna see that teams dont fear Kyle Orton and they will stack the box and stop the run knowing Orton cant beat them deep. if we would have Kept Cutler and drafted Knowshon then this team could outright beat teams on offense alone. but we have a weak QB, no defense to speak of and ST’s is still a question mark.

  • Matt

Dating back to when Cutler was selected for the Pro Bowl… I had thought that Rivers deserved it more so considering what transpired in the last 4 games of the season for each respective team.

  • McCaffrey4Life

Cutler-Moreno-Marshall/Royal would have easily beat out N.O. for best offense in the league. From there we could have focused only on D the rest of the draft. While we may not have gotten very many impact players after the second round, like kerry said, we could beat teams with O alone and continue to get better on D.

  • Andpark

    Matt:
Who’s fan site are you on? I not sure if the last 4 games of the season was due to Rivers play or a complete meltdown of the Broncos. Meltdown I think, Bills game still haunts me.

    Kerry:
Listen this is probably the worst quality video in history and I think it is played at double speed_

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE2CxDWm1sc

But even you have to admit there are some decent deep balls in there, does Orton have the physical ability of Cutler? Probably not. Same great O Line, same young talented receivers and TE’s, and now some sort of actual running game. Step back maybe in the QB department but Orton only has a year and a lot to prove so I will be optimistic. This offense has more weapons now and D can’t get much worse.

We can win the Div. with 8-8 same as last year. Chargers only got older and deeper into salary cap, we are making huge moves but better than stagnant no Superbowls SD.

  • Jon K.

McCaffrey4Life, if the broncos would have kept Jay, that would mean they would have drafted Robert Ayers (or someone like him) with the 12th, the reason they didn’t do that w/o Cutler was because we had Robert sit’n @ 16

  • Jon K.

    McCaffrey4Life,
hahaha thats what i said to my bro!
from Cutler to Orton – huh? :(

  • roshon2411

    McCaffrey,

Kerry and I have been probably the least optimistic members on this site. The downgrade from QB is going to be dramatic. Orton has one 300 yard game and started the same number of playoff games as Cutler. Wil l see how his regular season W-L record is when he has a defense that ranks in the bottom half.

  • kerry

    Andpark:

did you seriously just post a highlight video? come on man. highlight videos can make Ryan Leaf look good. post one of Chad Pennington and it will show the same things Kyle Orton just did. and highlight videos dont tell the whole story. so sorry but i dont go on what a video shows because it doesnt show anything but good throws.

  • kerry

    Roshon2411:

yep. and what makes it even worse is that most think Moreno will make up for the loss of Cutler. it wont. and i still havent even mentioned the buzz saw of a schedule we have. but here is what really bothers me, most think because Matt Cassell did so well that Orton will do well. the huge difference is Matt Cassell sat behind and learned for a year or so behind Brady. Orton is getting thrown into the fire with this new complex system. he basically has to learn on the fly and that is gonna impede his ability to run it effectively.

  • Andy

He looks like a Baldwin brother

  • roshon2411

    kerry,

Thats probably why Orton has been getting chewed out during practice. Also, did you notice most of those highlights were him in college or against the Lions. Sad thing is, will probably not know if he’s the starter until the end of the preseason.

Hell with the mess Denver has at QB, I wouldn’t mind them making a run at Vince Young if they could get him cheap. If McDaniels thinks thinks neck beard is good enough to win with this offense, bring in someone like Vince. He might be an idiot but he almost single-handedly beat the Broncos a couple years back. I’m sure I’ll get some grief but I hear so much about how Cutler couldn’t lead Denver to the playoffs. Well Young did, and was ro0kie of the year, so he does have some talent.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

I don’t get why you slam Orton for not being able to beat out Grossman as a rookie and a young player, and then say Denver should trade for Vince Young. Young couldn’t even beat out the ancient Kerry Collins. It’s obvious the Titans success was their running game and defense, not the few passes Justin Gage or Algae Crumpler caught all season. Would you really want to pick up Young’s contract and give up what it would actually take to get him?
