The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears.

In return, the Broncos acquired quarterback Kyle Orton, two first-round draft picks (18th overall in 2009 and their 2010 first round pick), and a third-round pick. The Broncos also included a fifth-round pick in the deal.

  • AtomicLeo

Denver got the best deal they could. I’m surprised they received 2 #1’s.

No one knows who got the best deal here. Check back in 3-4 years. We don’t know how good (or bad) McDaniels will be with draft picks.

I’m not happy about this. We are not a better team today. We weren’t good last year either but at least we had a promising offense. Now we don’t have that.

  • broncojim

again…i live in philly…curt shilling and scott rolen were crybabies for the phillies and we traded them for a bunch of players and prospects and all of them turned to crap and the phillies were dung for years after that. after they got a good guy in the front office then it turned around. by the way, those crybabies won 3 world series between them. getting rid of the scapegoat will never make u better!

  • Jaiu

Raji just might be there at the 12th pick now:

    Please READ THIS ….

In 33 career starts, Orton has compiled a record of 21-12, including a record of 15-2 in home games.

If the reports are correct, the Broncos will have the following picks in the upcoming NFL Draft:

    1-12-12 Denver
    1-18-18 Denver (from Chicago)
    2-16-48 Denver
    3-15-79 Denver
    3-20-84 Denver (from Chicago)
    4-14-114 Denver
    5-13-149 Denver
    6-12-185 Denver
    7-16-225 Denver
    7-26-235 Denver (from Atlanta)

ORTON? was 21-12? … the Bear’s arent THAT GOOD are they? Or did we just SUCK that bad?

Orton meet me at the bar! :D

  • flbronc

look at what mcd did with cassell, if he has the same system here with recievers as good as new england shouldnt orton do at least as well? in 2006 if you were asked who you wanted to start on your team, cassell or orton- almost everyone would pick orton.

  • NathanH

What the hell you talkin about Graham Harrell? He’s projected to go 5th or later THIS year, not first next.

And McCoy is being grossely over rated and his deep ball is garbage right now, he’ll likely go late first early 2nd by the time reality hits a year from now for him. Bradford is a GEM though, and will go number 1 guarenteed imo. Next year is a VERY, VERY, strong draft though overall and 2 firsts will be extremely valuable to have, even if we choose to trade one of them.

I for one am very excited.

oh, and big news. BJ RAJI TESTED POSITIVE FOR WEED AND MAY DROP TO 12 NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • flbronc

dee- dont know how i missed the win loss in my earlier stat post… good point.

  • broncojim

the bears won those games. not kyle orton. how many times in those games did the bears defense score as much as the offense? kyle won’t be getting any support from this defense. wait til ole kyle has to throw 35 times a game against the defenses he will face next year. and what rb that spent the year on ir going to be as good as forte?

  • Eric in Vegas

Harrell will have his mettle tested without Crabtree this year. If he does well, his stock will shoot through the roof.

  • Raiders Rule

Bring on the Kyle Orton era! You are f*cking nuts if you think this is an upgrade. Simple rule of thumb, you don’t trade away a franchise QB. You just don’t. They are too hard to come by. And if you do, you don’t do it for Kyle Freakin Orton…Don’t believe his win-loss record because he had a dominant D.

Have fun chilling in the cellar!

  • TD30isMVP

    1) At least the drama is over.
    2) We really did get a lot for a guy that wanted out.
    3) The Patriot dink and dunk offense with the occasional heave downfield can be run with a less talented QB just like Cassell did.

  • MIAbronco

guys, do you realize that like pretty much every qb that came out as a junnior sucked. why the hell would we draft sanchez, that guy will blow, he had the best situation of any qb in college, he played at usc for christ sake, they havent churned out anybody in a long time.

mcdaniels system doesnt need flashy guys, and lets not forget that simms was pretty succesful before he got injured, he never put up huge stats but he fought till the ver end regardless of the score, when has jay done that, he was quittng on the browns game until that lucky eddie royal touchdown.

i still believe this team is improved from last year. think about this everybody, WHAT IF JAY WAS A SYSTEM QB? the guy had the best o line, one of the top if not the top reciever groups, and the guy still averaged more then 1 INT a game, i dont care about people saying he had no run game, you still gotta play smart. everyone talked about jay as a gunslinger like favre, well in the 52 years favre played he only won 1 super bowl.

we have yet to play a single game, so why judge mcd already?

  • stav

I have no problem with trade considering Cutler didn’t want to be here and put out those phony bs comments last night. If Cutler wanted to be a Bronco, he’d be a Bronco right now. Now that I’m done with that, I’m starting to agree with passing on drafting a Qb/moving up to grab Sanchez in the first round. First of all, there is a good chance Sanchez can drop to us, and I wouldn’t mind the pick, but the unspectacular Orton has shown he can start and win in the NFL. A healthy Simms may give him a push to up his game. Either QB now has very good receivers, even if one of them won’t be there for half the season. Simms/Orton is now behind the best O-Line in the NFL or atleast one of the top three. 50td’s from Brady and Cassel’s season last year, does McD know what he’s doing? possibly, we’ll find out. I don’t think we’ll be as bad as we might think just don’t expect playoffs. We should just stack up the defense with three of our first four picks. Defense gets you into the playoffs. And if we suck? we’ll have a top 10 pick and then another one in the 20’s. I’ll deal with it. Some guy on NFL network said, “It sure seems like the book has finally closed on the Shanahan era.” Yep, as sad as it may be, looks like it. Time for a new start Bronco fans, just be realistic on our 2009 season. 9 wins is overachieving, 8 wins possible, 7 wins probable, 6 wins underachieving.

  • broncojim

its dinnertime in my time zone so im signing off. i have bronco license plates on the front and back of my SUV. they are both coming off until josh mcdaniels is gone. he will be nothing without belichek and tom brady. im just broken hearted. what do i look for next year?

  • Blake

Honestly everyone can say this trade sucks! What idiots etc. The bottom line is that we draft well with these picks and get two stud first rounders it can be a moot point. It all depends on McD can draft. We could be set back for years or it could turn around and be an amazing deal. The jury is still out!

  • Ant

I don’t care what anyone says THIS TRADED SUCKS BALLS. You lose a Young Pro Bowl QB for Orton, 2 1st round picks and a 3rd. Come on people. Unless they draft two great picks that become pro bowl players we got hosed.

  • broncojim

the nfc east teams will al score at least 35 points on this team next year. stav, 6 wins? where are those wins coming from?

  • STLunatic

ARe you guys seriously wishing Cutler out??? You guys are retarded…Cutler is a gem and he has EVERY right for feeling the way he did…Bowlen takes a new head coach over an awesome QB like Cutler…Orton sucks, there WILL be another trade to get a real QB….I’m not a Broncos fan, but I would be crying if I were you guys…the only good thing is that you got a lot of picks back, Bears definitely overpayed….Orton and 1st and 3rd picks for this year was enough…the other 1st rounder was unnecessary….Shanahan leaves and the Broncos tumble….2009 record 6-10.

  • jdkchem

Kyle Orton is far better than Steve Ramsey. If you don’t know who Steve Ramsey is don’t bother commenting.

  • Steve

Im a bronco fan that lives in Seattle, and i just had to take my hat off down town because there were so many people telling me how dumb my team is for trading cutler…. IDK what to think right now…. this move was horrible… What the hell were they thinking?

  • myerda00

Kerry, your language forces me to notify the administrator.

  • JRODZ

If we use one of these first round picks to move up to get Sanchez, what good did they do us? He’s yet ANOTHER BACK-UP! We blew it.

  • NathanH

Steve, it was a very good move. We got a guy that is a great teammate at QB for a guy that didn’t care about his teammates. Thats enough for me right there, and then they added on a 3rd and two 1sts for us, so its pretty much a no brainer once the shock wears down.

If we draft right, we will prevail.

  • Trent

alright i am excited now. we have a qb that will work in mcdaniels scheme atleast for a season we have a ton of picks to rebuild the defense. maybe even a lineman. Hopefully the new front office is able to evaluate defensive talent better than shanny did.

  • Jordan A

    This is me crying……..

  • Moose

Come on guys this deal is great for the Broncos! This team wasn’t going to win with Cutler because the defense was so bad. Now you have tow 1st round picks this year and next! That is how you build a team . And what if they get Mark Sanchez in the 12th this year and a great young stud on defense theis year. They are going to be set! I know Orton and Simms aren’t the answer but Sanchez has been getting great reviews and the offense is ready made with a great young o-line, great receivers and good running game. And lets give Coach a chance to see what he can do with a quarterback here as he made Matt Cassel a stud! Do you really think Chicago is going to be better with Cutler. Their coaching sucks as Lovie Smith and Ron Turner have proven they can’t coach quartbacks. Hell Turner didn’t want Cutler out of high school when he was caoching Illinois university. The bears have no receivers. I have heard people saying Devin Hester is getting better but he sucks. They have a weaker o-line pass protecting. All they have is a good runner in Matt Forte and the defense is old and fading as witness last year. The bottom line here is that the Broncos got the best of this deal and I LOVE THAT NOW THEY CAN BUILD WITH FOUR NUMBER ONE PICKS THE NEXT TWO YEARS. Awesome! I Love it!

  • DaBroncos

The good news is that Josh Frickin McDumbAss will not be in Denver much longer—-how can 1 person come into CO. and F UP the only thing we had going—-Josh, want fries with that—get used to it—it will be the only job you qualify for after a 4 and 12 season!!!!!!!!! McDumbAss!!!!

  • flbronc

i just watched nfl live (had to dvr it and watch after dinner), and i am suprised that stink and dilfer both think that cutler is the second rated qb in the division… they both seemed to think that denver got the better of the deal, and that cutler is going to have a rough time being that 1. lovie smith isnt going to coddle him, 2. their ol stinks, 3. they have no legit #1 recievers- dilfer said they have 3 #3’s. Dilfer also thinks that orton will excell in mcdaniels system.

now i know some people are going to rip that apart (kerry)- but i’ll hold your opinion in higher regard after you get paid to evaluate the nfl and are more highly respected by espn than those guys and earn their spot on the air.

Pao Gasaol for Kwamee Brown… The Sequel

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

Is it possible to take this defense from 30th to top 3 in the next 3 years? Sounds crazy, but I do think it possible when you have that many top picks to throw at it…

And let’s not forget what else we got outta this trade – a new public enemy number 1. How great is it going to be to jeer Jay Cutler the next 10 years! Bad blood is always fun…

  • JRODZ

I think I’m calming down now…But what ever happened to the “Winning now” mantra they were throwing around? All we had to do was fix the defense & now we’re well on our way to be a full-on rebuilding team. Good times!

  • TT

I am a 42 year fan of the broncos and this is by far the worst trade in the history of the broncos. Josh Mcdaniels wanted Cutler gone from the day he was hired. I`m sure he must have not liked him when he was with the Pats.He has destroyed everything that we fans enjoyed watching in only three months .You would be doing us a big favor if you would resign. I do not think you are ready to be an NFL coach.,and I really doubt the rest of the team is going to lay everything on the line on Sunday for you .

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Lets look at it this way guys. Now that we know were goin’ to suck next year, lets make it count. We are already turning into a luaghing stock. Lets pull a Detroit? Why not? Lets go 0-16 and than we will have the number one pick in the draft next year as well as Chicago’s 31st pick in the first round of next year (assuming that they will kick ass now). Ha, this team is becoming a joke. Now lets trade all of our picks we just got to get Sanchez, than lets pay him $100 mil instead of Cutler!! Nice!!! Man, I am not even lookin’ forward to playing Oakland, I’m just tryin’ to figure out a way to forget the rest of our schedule. Crappy season here we come!!!
    HAHA

  • jcampb72

    EAST MAKE YOUR MOCK!!!!

  • Don Clabaugh

This whole thing is soooo messed up Cutler was the best thing since Elway So DISPOINTED in The Broncos

  • JRODZ

Instead of trading up for another overrated backup QB, trade up and cock-block the Chiefs and grab Curry or someone else on Defense.

  • Broncosfanfl

McDaniels Better have a winning season Cutler gone Big BIg BIG MISTAKE

  • AKam

I love this team, but this whole thing was a huge embarrassment. We can’t even let our pride go for our franchise QB. He was only getting better and now we are left with nothing. I don’t want us to be the patriots. I want us to be the scrappy Broncos. Normally I can’t wait for the season, but I only see us in 4th place. Every other team in our division has a franchise QB. We have nothing. So stupid. We didn’t have to trade him. Return a freaking call man…wtf…If Bowlen really wanted him he could have found him. ..Cutler bluffed and we called it and ran with it…stupid…

  • TT

I forgot to say who the hell are we going to draft at 18 who is going to come in and be a Pro Bowler?

  • tower1970

So many people hollerin about Cutler. The problem was, is and fill be the snotnose coach that was brought in. Bowlen himself says Cutler “you’re the man, now” and the snotnose ignored him and still pursued a trade with Cutler, who I may add owns the franchise record for yards in a season. Defense was supposed to be the concentration this year. Now we have to figure out how to win without the pro bowler and no defense. And what the he** is Dawkins doing here? WELL DONE McDANIELS!!!!! I’ll personally engrave your head stone as former Broncos and worst coach in 3 or 4 years. Then we can get back to winning again.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

So who am I going to see in line to buy a Cutler jersey in Chicago colors?

  • Roy

The more I think about it the more I am excited about the prospects for our defense. If we can get Raji at 12, we may be able to get Vonte Davis at 18. Or even better, Knowshon Moreno. I think that could be huge. There is always the possibility of Pat White later too. This could turn out to be a hell of a good draft.

  • broncosfanfl

McDaniels better have a good season Cutler gone Big BIg BIG Mistake Cutler was the best thing since Elway

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Did any of you hear about Raji failing a drug test at the combine? He must have new he was going to Denver

  • soxbigdog

The problem I have with Orton’s great record as a starter, its most likely that good for the same reason Cutler’s is sub- .500 for his career (only with the opposite result)

Orton only had to manage a team with a great defense, Cutler had to be the hero weekly for a team with a no defense…

BUT, and this is a big BUT, Cutler had offensive weapons which barring trades and FA signings he will not have in Chicago….

and Orton with be able to take some chances throwing the ball up for grabs with a guy like Brandon Marshall out there..

  • inrodwetrust

Why does this have to be so bad guys?
To get Cutler we traded our 15th and 68th position picks in 2006 (a 1st and 3rd rounder) For the trade (of a malcontent QB that was not going to play here no matter what in 2009, and a 5th round pick) we got two 1st rounders, a 3rd round pick, and a player chosen in the 4th round. That trade looks pretty good for the broncos on paper so far. Now factor in the relative lack of good QB’s in this years draft, and look at the 2010 draft class: Sam Bradford from Oklahoma, Tim Tebow from Florida, Colt McCoy from Texas, or Tim Hiller from Western Michigan. Any one of these guys has the potential to be a franchise QB in the NFL. We can sit back and build the Orange Crush defense this year with 2 1st round picks and a slew of late rounders, then address the offense next year with 2 more 1st round draft picks.

  • troyn

Kerry, I agree with you on the horrible outcome of this trade. However, you were constantly calling for the ouster of the greatest coach the broncos will ever have. This is all on Bowlen, who has exposed himself as an incompetent drunk, whose only success was due to the greatness of mike shanahan. Bottom line, if shanny is still here, we retain a great offense, address the defense in the off season and contend next year. Now, as much as I like Orton as a game manager with a great D, sorry, for one that ain’t broncos football, broncos football is a gun slinger that takes chances and wins the improbable such as Elway and Cutler. I will take the guy that slings it and throws the pick over the guy that is a too cautious system guy everytime. Bowlen through his drunken arrogance and Mcdaniels through his incompetence have now set this franchise back years. I have only left one team in my life that I have supported, that was the Phil. 76ers when they in essence traded Moses Malone, the #1 pick(brad daughtery) for roy hinton and a injured jeff ruland. They could have had Julius Erving, Moses, Charles Barkley, and Brad Daugherty all on there front line, but incompetent management led to no championships since 1983. I chose to follow my favorite college player M. Jordan and got to see many championships. The broncos are my team since 77, but I will not put up with the Al Davis like incompetence that they have shown this off season. I am not a fair weather fan, but if they desert me, what choice do I have?

  • broncosfanfl

It’s how it all went down that is bad to loose Mike and Jay in one year bites I really liked them both

  • jcampb72

With the bears easy schedule and our hard schedule it wouldn’t surprise me if they went to the playoffs and we get hosed. 7-9, but im really excited for the draft.

  • broncosfanfl

man I do love the Broncos I do agree with you about Bowlin and McDaniels but once a Broncos fan Always a Broncos fan ut I Am Very DISPOINTED in the Broncos
