All hell has officially broken loose. Pat Bowlen has officially released a statement saying that he will comply with Jay Cutler’s trade requets. The AP article states,

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen released a statement saying both he and McDaniels had been unable to get Cutler to call them back over the last 10 days. Bowlen said he spoke with Cutler’s agent, Bus Cook, on Tuesday and came away convinced “that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos.”

It’s a sad day indeed. Hopefully this is all just a bad April Fools joke. Where will Cutler land? Who will take over the reigns?

I’ll tell you what, after the circus we have had thus far, it is good to see that someone has the strength and convictions to do what needed to be done. This team is rebuilding and if you are not with us then you are against us MR Cutler, now what is done is done, let us find a QB that can be the teams leader and that my be Mr Simms……more talent then Cassel and we saw what he did, but lets bring in a QB and have some great competition. Yea it is going to be tough, but fun to see what type of team we field with all those draft picks “GO Broncos”

    Well gang,
The end has apparently finally arrived. Some like it and some don’t. But I come from the business side-you satisfy the client. You may not have liked how Jay handled it but he was the client and the broncos were not successful at selling something. At this moment, I can’t blame him for wanting to be traded, these people are in it to make money but they deserve the right to be leveled with. What he apparently didn’t get from Denver, he will get somewhere else. This is a management collapse-under no circumstance due you run off the client and expect not to hear about it. They may not have liked Cutler’s actions, but they needed him to buy their product. When it comes to selling, you must think with your mind first and place your pride on the shelf. That’s what management did not do-they thought with their pride first and it backfired.

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

And to think I had this McDaniels names self as starting Quaterback post all planned out for today but now it all seems a little bit off the mark.

this is bad on the surface but i agree with what Kerry said quite a way back up – just get it done and get it done quick.

  • Jaiu

    What do you guys think…

Financially [and conference-wise], the Broncos do a 3way trade to get Brody Quinn and either Shaun Rodgers or their 1st pick, and have Cutler sent to Seattle with their 4th pick given to Cleveland.

This is just off the top and 5.5 PBR’s in. if someone else has already suggested this scenario, than my apologies – i’m too beer lazy to read all of the posts.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

So I guess this is the end of the Broncos?
I’m glad this whole saga ended, I’m disappointed that Jay didnt return the owners call, but I’m not surprised.. you dont return you’re bosses calls …you are going to get fired. Bravo Bus Cook another successful drama you have concluded.

I dont blame any individual person, they all played a part. What happens now is that there will be a new era of the Broncos. I’m excited about that , I have faith that the Broncos will be back.

Everyone needs to move on at this point, lets hope we get alot in a trade back for Cutler. I still have faith in the organization and we will win , and we will be successful , I never saw Jay as the savior for this team… he was just a really good player that threw too many INTs.

Everyone that wants to abandon the Broncos please do so now, the DENVER BRONCOS will be just fine , they’ll be back … Jay Cutler good luck in you’re career but mark my words you will never have it as good as you did in Denver.

Coach McDaniels , what you MUST do now is bring a Superbowl to Denver to justify this move. And you know what? I think we’ll get one before Jay Cutler does (which is never, if you need clarification)

ALL READY ? There’s only a few of us left…

  • jcampb72

Sad to say but I bet we get low balled to death. If the deal is not sweet we simply must hold on to jay, he’s only making 1.5 mil n e way. And we could use him on ST’s.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

    DEE-

Jays gone. Brandon is gone for at least 4 probably 8. Will you feel the same way if the offense tanks? Will you feel the same way if we go 0-1. I will agree with you though, that the new broncos are going to be bad ass. Life are full of changes. Some easy, some ugly, some inevitable. Let’s just hope that Jack Elway can step up his game.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

On a side note , the news of Shanahan being fired hurt me alot more than this, at this point I find myself not caring that Jay is leaving but caring more about what we get back.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money: Link Ambassador

    Jcampb72 ~

Nice call. He loves to hit people. I’ve always thought of him as a beast. Make him the wedge Buster.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    T-Money

This team could go 0-16 and I would still love them. I love the Denver Broncos, and the way Jay Cutler has acted recently I have lost some respect for him. McDaniels is also wrong in some respects, but Jay Cutler has gone off on reporters in the past, other players, his own teammates (defense) … so at this point I think we should just turn the page.

  • Bryan

HAHAHA I hope Mike S. and Jay both make Denver pay for the stupid mistakes they have been making this season. Fine yes get ride of Mike S. maybe he wasn’t the right coach anymore, but to mess up an offense as explosive as Denvers come on. Cutler is an awsome QB- reminds me alot of elway. we should be focused on our defense, not trying to creat denver into the next clone machine Patriots. I want to see a qb like elway or cutler to take a chance think on his feet, not some brady pussy- oh no ones open just throw it away… that not denver football. Jay cutler didnt have a running game backing him this last season and he still did awsome. if you ask me denvers doing to be crappy, and i do not care anymore. this all can be laid on Mckidiots lap!!

  • jcampb72

T- he can’t be the wedge buster this year, its illegal. But maybe punt returner?

  • Bryan

Well you guys keep blaming Cutler, lets say you just did an awsome job in your job and got a big raise- but the next thing you knew your boss was saying you should be like someone your not and do a better job… How would you feel? Didnt jay just set a team record and carried a team that had NO deffense and no running game, and also went to the pro bowl- hmmhmm i think so! McDaniels wants Jay to be more like Brady, and i think thats crap, have you seen a pats game there boring and tom brady- put him in a different team and he wouldnt do worth a darn!!

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

For the record , I wouldnt mind Brady Quinn.

  • AKscott

“Let’s just hope that Jack Elway can step up his game.”

Thats what im talkin’ bout t-money!!

    ;-)

  • Denver Diehard

For those that claim to be a fan and blame the Organization and that they won’t support the Broncos due to this, well you can take a hike with Cutler. Seems a lot of these same people were calling for the head of Shanahan before he was fired. Well, they got their wish didn’t they.

Bowlen, had to fire Reeves for the same reason he let Shanahan go: They became complacent. Bowlens choice may not have been the best when it came to player management, but McD was hired for what Bowlen expects on the field. Pat Bowlens moves have been to do anything he can to bring the team back to a Championship; Sometimes it works and other times his decisions backfire.

I am a Bronco Fan, and I ask that true fans suck it up and support our team. Players come and go. Many we like and many more that we don’t. Cutler is damaged goods at this point, and regardless of who’s fault it is, at least we learned that Cutler is not a leader. A Super Bowl QB needs to be a leader. Lets move on.

Oh, and when the critics blame the Broncos because Cutlers replacement plays bad and loses several games this coming season, let me remind you that Cutler lost more than he won.

I’ll stick by the Broncos win or lose, no matter who the players are.

  • http://www.kellyleephipps.com Kelly in Carolina

I grew up in Boulder loving Elway, and I thought Cutler was the Second Coming with his rocket arm. I will say I was disappointed in his attitude during games, after he’d throw a pick, he’d go over to sit in his frat-boy spot, and sulk…and to think I defended him against Rivers…maybe now I know what Rivers was seeing…

But alas, our situation looks exciting in Denver. When I play Madden I always get McDaniels as my Offensive Coordinator in Franchise Mode and select a young quarterback like Quinn or Flacco. Within three years they are rated in the 90’s and we have one Superbowl.

So, let’s put this behind us and get excited about spending all those bonus draft picks. I’d love Cleveland’s 5th pick of the 1st round, Quinn, and their 2nd round pick. That seems like enough to give them a Pro bowl quarterback who can challenge the Steelers.

But I’d use those picks wisely and pick up DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE! And maybe a third round QB that Josh likes and thinks he can groom for the big leagues.

It’s going to be an exciting season without all that sulking cow-faced look on the sidelines!

Glad I chose an Eddie Royal Jersey for x-mas instead of Cutler!

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

    I’m with you Diehard,

  • Bryan

Bowlen is doing the same thing he did with Mike S. giveing the young and much to learn head couch waay to much power.

  • Stivie Kay

I say the lions would be that desperate for a QB like cutler that they would be willing to trade their 1st round 1st pick, maybe even their 1st round 20th pick aswell, we pick up Curry first pick, Raji 12th pick and what ever decent QB is left at 20. Then we get Jeff garcia for his last year and let the rookie learn from him… seems a decent logic???

  • jcampb72

I am excited to see what our compensation is going to be. For right now that is all I am excited about. Nevertheless GO BRONCOS!!!

  • broncoNM

    jcamp
Your right alot of teams will kick the tires and try and low ball us…it will only take one team to break the bank. Cutler has remained pissed with not contact so i dont blame the broncos for shopping him. I do have confidence that we will get fair value for him. I dont think it matters how cutler acts…he has loads of talent and there are plenty of teams in need. He is a franchise QB and there will be a team that offers the farm for him. My hope at this point is that Denver finds a system QB that can flourish (or is atleast decent) in McD’s system and we get a hand full of picks to fix the D. The broncos could definitely get the short end of this deal but maybe we get a young D with good vet leadership and our offense becomes consistant and scores in the red zone. I know this is very optamistic but its all i got right now. There have been reports of 6 teams and counting that have already contacted Denver. Odds are that if Denver is open to trading him a team will offer something decent and Jay is out of here.

  • AKscott

someone on here a few days ago (east possibly??) had a great anology for how i feel.. basically about how people support the troops but not the war. Thats EXACTLY how i feel about all this. I HATE whats going on, but when its all said and done, I love my broncos. Jay was great, and i’ll always have a bit of a chub for him, but team will come first.. although im not with diehard, i’ll need a grieving period, have myself a good cry, maybe put on some Avril and watch Steel Magnolia’s. Then come draft day i’ll be hopeful about the new crop and excited to see what happens in camp.

til then, i’ll walk around feeling like i just got dumped

  • Brian

Make sure we get a reasonable trade value for this little prick, if not , lets keep him on the bench for 3 years and then see who wants him. He’s under contract still and as far as I’m concerned Cutler can go hold hands with Eddie Kennison, traitors!!!!!

  • broncoNM

Im wondering if bowlen and McD announced this because they had a deal already in mind or planned…Andpark stated that a trade could happen soon (next couple days)…This could be true. They could already have a deal in place and are just waiting to see if any other team can offer a better deal.

  • http://horviltiki.com Horvil Tiki

this is wild guy. it like long grain wild rice. The shanhan fire. now the cutsper is trade.

I hope we get some thing good guy. I hope we get quart back with cabability to makey the throw and all kind of picts holmes. I want all kind of picts in first round let get defence and some real good run back.

bowlen roll the wheel of destiny guy. he makey hooge gamble on the mcdanels I hope he is rite or we look real corny when dust settel. I think he see some thing in this guy. he have to.

ive been a broncos fan ever since i was 8 you all know 1986 im now 30 ive wached pat do some great things ala-1997 and 1998 but i think we should trade cutler if hes unhappyhe will be a CANCER he will only destroy us even fiurther ,let it go! if you ever wached NOTRE DAME when BRADY was there then you know hes a hell of a qb and a LEADER !!who cares who FUCKED UP lets move forward….

  • BroncoSDrep

Who would’ve ever thought that the night I left Qualcomm stadium on the cold Sunday night in San Diego that it would be the last time I was Cutler and Shanahan in Bronco Orange. How did this team get to where we are at now? I know Cutler is mad and upset, I know the Broncos made an attempt to get rid of him but we had so much going for us. Ya 52-21 sucked, Ya dropping the last three games and negating the playoffs hurt but how do you guys feel now? I have no idea what to expect next year and with the AFC North, NFC East and Indy on the schedule I have a hard time believing the Broncos will have a better team on the field than 2008……

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

I agree completely with Horvil, well the bits I understood ;)

The absolute MINIMUM i’d want in the trade is a defensive starter – possibly a Nose Tackle but would take a proven MLB – and a quaterback. And then throw in a couple of draft picks and I’m happy with the compensation.

Quinn and Raji are the most obvious people to drop into that scenario but I will go away and have a think about other options.

  • pwsbronco

One thing for sure is there was nobody out there crying ” lets trade Jay” at the end of last season. Everyone knew that our Defense was no where to be seen, our Special teams were nowhere to be seen, but our offense was just a running back away from greatness. We are young, we have a great offensive line, all we needed to put this together was a running back we could rely on, that could pound out the yards and help us control the clock. This would also remedied our redzone problems. We had no problems in the redzone when we had a passing and running game. We also were 13-1 with Jay when the defense held the other team under 21 pts.
Also, all we heard on the posts after this season were, we NEEDED a DEFENSE, that is all we talked about. Also a running back that could stay healthy.
So, how did we get to here from there? Man, did the bottom ever fall out…..
No offensive problems until ……. McD…

Who in their right mind would have messed with an offense such as ours when we had such a pathetic defense and terrible SP? McD….

Who would mess with a teams pro bowl QB when you had other major problems to fix? McD……

Well, one could also thank Bowlen for taking control of his team. Must ask Pat this question tho ” How is that working out for you so far Pat?”

What a total cluster f**…… Well we can only go up from here now, I can only hope.

Have to wonder how any other coaches would have come to Denver and lost their pro bowl QB? I really can’t think of anyone out there that would have been dumb enough to have lost the QB on their watch, short as it has been.
I only hope the best for you McD, we are all watching and hoping, but I really have to believe you just cut your leash very very short….
Has to be the biggest screw up in NFL History, can’t think of any other coach making such a complete assnine blunder as this….

  • sabrina

when Jay arrived in 2006 his intention was to be Broncos qb for life…now we enable that a any Josh to shok Broncoland! The offense was the only Broncos thing that was very good…now we must begin from the top…Good luck Broncos!

  • steve

i loved cutler, thought we should have worked hard to turn him around. but now that its over, i hope we do that trade to the browns. we get brady quinn, whos got potential, and then we draft raji with their round 1, and with our round one we draft moreno. or cushing. and then whatever. could be solid though. ive always liked quinn since notre dame.

  • robtink242

Steve that trade makes sense. But hey he was trading cutler for a career back up. wow i don’t kno maybe cause hes a first time coach he has to many gitters on the phone negotiating. The worst part is thinking who else are we going to loose. i would want to be around a compulsive liar.

  • BroncoinVA9986

JohnClayton just reported that there was a hillbilly cackle come out of san diego

  • flbronc

cant say its unexpected, also glad that there is an end. can we get one of the mods to start a ‘what should we get for cutler’ thread? i was kinda was hoping this would be one, but it has kinda turned into a place the blame and bitch about it thread (which is totally fine and needed for folks to vent).

anyway, someone mentioned the irrelevance of jeff george- as a person he is, but his trade value was not- he netted two first rounders (and maybe a player). I’d like to see cutler go for the browns 5, quinn, and next years first. hell if it turns into a bidding war, take a second or third on top of that. That turd bus cook needs to get in on the trading action on behalf of his client. if i were xanders i’d be on the phone with him discussing what the team will entertain for him (multiple first rounders) and have him help look for suitible trade partners. the thing is that the broncos hold the cards here, and we can ask for whatever we want….

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

It was such a bad idea when Hershel Walker was traded…

  • Anthony33

Bolwen says they made several attempts to contact Cutler over the past ten days and Cutler did not respond. Now I see in the Post where Cutler said he only received a text from McD 10 days ago and had already shipped his car to Denver for the April mini-camp.

Someone is lying through their teeth.

  • BH

I am not sure Cutler ever wanted to stay in Denver. When he was drafted, he didn’t act too excited about Denver. I have always wondered if it was the city or the fact that he hoped to be drafted higher than he was. This whole thing makes me think it was both. I really think that he wants to play in a different city. My guess is Chicago #1 and Tennessee #2. Anyway, based on his contract and the changes in Denver I think that he saw this as his chance to get out and get his money. All he had to do was have the organization give him the opportunity to be a big enough jerk to get his way, and they gave it to him.

I am very disheartened to see my favorite player soon to be traded from my favorite team.

Mr. East has a good point: “It was such a bad idea when Hershel Walker was traded…” I sure hope that we get whatever is necessary to get us over the hump. However, it is hard to imagine how we would do it without a star QB. I really had spending seasons looking for a QB. I don’t want to be Chicago.

  • Paul in Chicago

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAA What a BABY. Get us Quin

  • jp

At this point right now I dont know whether to sh1t or go blind. I actually think I hate all 3 parties involved. Cutler, McDaniels, and especially Bowlen for getting us all into this mess for firing Shanahan. Any way we can trade all 3 of them?

  • Stav

Is it just me or is Shanahan sitting somewhere laughing quietly to himself? Whatever, blame whoever you want to, McD completely fucked this up, Bowlen seems like he had no influence in any of this, and Cutler is way too sensitive obviously. McD tried to fix things but Cutler dug into the trenches and decided he was bigger than the TEAM. I wonder if he ever bothered to look over on his jersey and notice the “C” there. I think at this point he probably thought it meant Cutler and not CAPTAIN. Yes, this all got crazy but in the end the Broncos tried to make amends. Shit, this guy wouldn’t even return calls back in an attempt to here what they wanted to say? Don’t tell me that is how a professional acts, this is a business, a cut throat business at that, save your feelings at the door. I get the feeling more and more that when Shanny went Cutler’s wheels were already spinning. Cutler is choosing to turn his back on his team when he is supposed to rise above this crap and lead his team. He says he can’t trust the guy? Why should his teammates trust him when he makes decisions like this that in the long run screw over the players. I don’t care how pissed off someone makes me in business, if the boss calls, and you know he’s calling to try and work things out, YOU ANSWER THE CALL. Not Cutler, noooooo not him. He has to hide from everyone and speak through his agent. Way to man up Jay. As much as I loved to watch this guy play, farewell, I can only hope that you are banished to the crappiest team we can send you to. Does he stop to think over these few things:

His YOUNG offensive line was by far the best in the league, he never got touched.

His YOUNG receiving corp would be one of the top three tandems in the NFL for a while

His new HC, as much of an asshole as he is, was the architect of Brady’s 50 TD season and was bringing the spread offense for him to throw the ball even more

The defense would be improved this year via FA and the draft, even if it was a marginal improvement

I’ll say it and screw any of you who disagree, if Cutler really wanted to be a Bronco, he’d be one. He’d put this aside, he’d man up and lead the team. Guess what Cutler, in the REAL BUSINESS WORLD no one gives a shit if you love, hate, or even like your boss. Its about getting the job done regardless of personal feelings. I wish this guy, and many of these pro athletes had a fucking clue on what everyday people have to go through especially now. Go cry and pout into your millions in a different city, please.

Get me Quinn and their 1st rounder or Rogers and let’s move on. And while we’re at it, time to draft another receiver, hopefully one that is allergic to the the phrase, “Hands behind your back, assume the position.” I love Marshall, but he’s become Chris Henry with ProBowl talent.

  • Anthony

I was hoping to wake up this morning and see that this was an April fools joke. So much for that. If Cutler and Shanahan would have beat Carolina, Buffalo or San Diego this would have never happened and that’s all I got to say about that.

  • Anthony

STAV I agree with you, if Cutler really wanted to be a Bronco and show his true leadership abilitites he would have been and with one more great season he would have gotten his $100 million extension and we live happily ever after.

  • Stav

How true it is Anthony. All we had to do was beat shitty Buffalo, but then that would mean we had heart and technique on defense, and we all know that wasn’t the case.

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Stav,

I’m with you all the way. obviously doesn’t have the desire to be a Bronco and sees this as his opportunity out.

I’m also with you on Marshall. Denver should draft Ramses Barden in the 7th, he’s a beast at 6’6 230.
