The Legacy Games

Josh McDaniels holds up one of the throwback jerseys Denver will play in for 2 games this season. 

Here’s a picture you thought you’d never see. Josh McDaniels smiling holding up something that kind of looks like a dingy Raiders’ jersey with Jay Cutler’s number on it. These jerseys will be worn in one home and one away game this year titled the “Legacy Games.” Of course McDaniels was asked about holding up the Cutler jersey, according to the Denver Post he responded:

“I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any other player.”

The article went on to say,

McDaniels had just finished an hour-long interview with a handful of Denver reporters and a gaggle of national media. At one point I counted 30 reporters crowded around his table. McDaniels was the only coach who attracted a “standing room only” crowd.

It is no surprise really that his table would be the most flooded out of the eight coaches. McDaniels’ table probably would be the most crowded even if all 32 were there. You can find another picture of the jerseys here, the rest of the original 8 AFL jerseys here, and a video at NFL.com.

    I love it,

    If McD wasn’t willingly to go with Cutler as his quarterback in the future, I am SURE that he would be holding up a 24 Bailey Jersey. Come on Cutler, get with the program and talk with the coach … lets move forward.

    Good effort from McD.

    Mildly fearful of seeing the old brown unis.

    Are they bringing back the striped socks also? So the team can’t get the beautiful orange unis into regular rotation, but the horrendous oldies are back? Marketing!

    I’m glad Josh is holding the player’s jeresy (as Josh would call it).

    From what I understand the socks will be worn. I believe they are brown with mustard stripes

    I am proud of the way the Coach dealt with the media today, he didnt lose his cool and handled himself very profesionally. The Cutler Jersey at the end was a bonus. I also respect him more for facing the media and dealing with the issue, I dont understand why Cutler is in Tenn.

    He’s never been to blame for any of this shit. The media overhyped it and Bus Cook was more to blame then anyone. Hopefully our fans can stop bashing our coach now, and realize that its still our QB that hasn’t responded. The ball is in Jay’s court now. Lets see if he’s an adult.

    Thanks Big E! Also I have been pretty pissed at McD for awhile but I have to agree with dee on this one. Plus one of the guys at fox sports was saying the same thing. I hope Jay was at least listening to what he was saying the last couple of days. As of now I think I’m going to walk the fence from here on out and see what happens. I’m getting tired of all the Jay and McD bashing going on. I’m a Broncos fan no matter who is playing or coaching, winning or losing.

    They are as ugly as they were in 1960. The vertical striped socks should be torched at each halftime as a sign of respect, even though the environdemental types will claim we are raising the earths temperature and polluting Kansas( is that possible?)

    Everyone’s excited about moving forward and this upcoming season? Where is Jay Cutler in all of this… why is the emphasis only on the Broncos? I swear to god , if Jay is hurt that McD is smiling holding a Cutler jersey I dont know what I’m going to do….

    Now the Bus Cook Spin

    Bus COOK: Hey Jay… look at that Mcdaniels holding you your jersey smiling for the media… He thinks he owns you, he thinks he can do whatever he wants. We can’t let him get away with this Jay … we need the media to know how much Josh wishes the name read Cassell and not Cutler…

    Jay: I dont know, maybe things can still work , maybe I should go back…

    Bus: BRETT NO you can’t! .. Ahhh I mean Jay … Jay look they disreprected you and now he’s just trying to trick you to join the team. Believe me Jay I have your best interest in mind… hold out, they’ll have to trade you …

    Forget all the Mcjaygate Drama I’m pretty optimistic about our 2009 campaign. watch the draft were going to get some crazy rookies on defense. I’m hoping we get Shonn Greene with our pick (especially if we trade Tony). Dee your making a big deal over nothing chill everything will fall in place. I’m prepared if Cutler’s not our QB even though i would rather him.

    I wanted us to bring back a throwback jersey for a game or 2 this year, but not these throwbacks! Where’s the love for the D helmets and the jerseys that we wore to to our 3 AFC Championships before the change to our current digs?

    Off subject, but NFL net reported that the NFL has a new contract with Directv at a billion dollars a year. Does that mean I’m going to have to pay a whole hell of a lot more per season to watch my beloved Broncos?

    Originally I was on Cutler’s side but now I’m really fed up with this whole mess. If he doesn’t man up now then I have no problem with him leaving this team. He needs to get over himself.

    There is an old saying that goes something like this: “what does not kill you makes you stronger”.

    If McD and Jay can work through this, and I think they will, watch out. It will galvanize the entire team. It will make them come together and be stronger. The tough nosed get in your face team (on BOTH sides of the ball) we all want will be born. Oh yeeeaaahhh.

    McD wants Jay to commit to being a team player and learning his system and how to run it. He wants Jay to a part of the puzzle, not the entire puzzle. He also knows he can mold Jay into greatness if he let’s him.

    Jay needs time to get past the firing of the man that drafted him and the firing of the coach that raised him. Tough thing to do. Eventually Jay will come to the realization that nothing can change what’s been done and his real motivation, which I believe is winning, is exactly on the same page with his new coach.

    “what does not kill you makes you stronger”. Let’s hope no one dies.

    Good post Dee, you’ve got something here. Mr. Cook is The Sith lord behind the war, whispering sweet nothings in ” a cut above” Cutler. This is the sole reason why we could still have some issues moving forward. But thats why McD is so brilliant in his last media meetings. Hes turned this situation on C & C. Hes the coach, its his way or the high way, BUT Cutler is our QB. So smart, he cant risk catering to his Cutlers Ego, he has to set the tone that hes the boss. Shit some of his players are older them him! He had to crack his whip when the rumors broke. But now as the worst part of the storm passes, McD appears to have calmed the crashing waves. The situation is simple now, now mystery, We want you Cutler! If you don’t show, we will trade your ass and move forward. And this time the blame will be 100% on your head. Bronco Nation can finally sleep knowing that our new energetic coach is making the right decisions,

    i like that denver is finally pulling out some classic jerseys. i hope there is a big ridiculous donkey on our helmets too.
    still, i want to see the bright orange and blue from classic mile high. bring back the big D!

    I’m going to throw a curve ball here . . . . stay with me until I’m done . . . I want nothing more than Cutler to stay with the Bronco’s . . . but let’s hypothetically say that it is not going to happen . . . .

    Rationale: . . . Jay asked to be traded . . . it has been a hundred years since Jay has responded . . . . he is not working out with his team-mates in off-season . . . he is not learning the new offensive system . . . he does not answer Pat Bowlen’s phone calls . . .

    Now if you did not answer your boss’s phone calls . . . maybe your boss would call you an “unhappy camper.” . . . . or maybe he’d trade you . . .

    McD has put on the three-ring-circus for the media with the jersey and all but he is not feeling the love . . . no kidding . . .

    You want this settled before the draft. Period. if you’re going to trade Jay . . . there is only one team to trade him to . . . and you don’t need his permission . . . that is Detroit. .

    Rationale: . . . Detroit has the 1st, and 20th in the first round . . . and the 1st (33) in the second round . . .

    The Bronco’s trade Cutler, Scheffler, and Stokley to the Lions for the 1st, 20th and 33rd . . . now the Lion’s offense has just improved 200%. . . Bus Cook is thrilled and he will convince Jay that he is thrilled also . . . they will turn around an 0-16 team to a contender . . . Miami did it last year . . . an abstract plus is that Jay is in the NFC . . .

    That gives the Bronco’s the 1st, 12th, 20th, and 33rd draft picks . . . I’ll bet you’re starting to salivate now . . . but it get’s better . . .

    You offer the Ram’s Ryan Harris at tackle and the 12th and 20th draft pick, two first rounders, for their number 2 draft pick . . . .

    Now the Bronco’s have the 1st, 2nd, and 33rd pick . . .

    To answer the obvious . . . I’d give the ball to Chris Simms . . . I know he’s not Cutler . . . but he’s with his teammates in offseason . . . he’s learning the new offense . . . he wants to be the first father and son to win a superbowl . . . need any more motivation? . . . he could be the plug-and-play QB that McD wants and he is already there . . . with a ton of offensive weapons . . .

    Who would you pick? . . . . Ragi? . . Orakpo? . . . Jackson? . . . Curry? . . . you really could build our defense for the future . . .

    Obviously the Bronco’s could throw the whole draft into another realm of reality . . . .

    Serious throwback uniforms. They went back to the very beginning when the original Broncos uniforms were from the Copper Bowl after it went under. For those fans who want an excellent source of Broncos history look for Barely audible: A history of the Denver Broncos by Larry Gordon.
