The Cowboys have officially confirmed that they have released Terrell Owens. They are going to take a $9M salary cap hit by doing this, but with his welcome more than worn out the team decided this was a small price to pay for a healthier team morale.

So, just to stir up another internet rumor, do you think McD & Company will be interested?

The case against signing TO for personality and morale issues is strong (and well known), so I won’t even attempt to go into that… I’ll assume you all know the negatives on that point. The other negatives for me would be his price tag. The Cowboys, just last year, signed him to a 4-year deal worth $34M. And, as I stated, he’s going to cost them $9M against their cap this year after releasing him. So, with the work we need to do on the defensive side of the ball, can we afford to drop that kind of cash for a player with Owen’s baggage.

The case FOR pursuing Owens is the possible Brandon Marshall suspension, plain and simple. If Brandon gets the max he could be out for half the year, and that would sideline our most talented wideout.

So, just for kicks and giggles what are your thought? Would you like to have T.O. and Baby T.O. on the roster for at least this year? Would McD and Xanders even consider it? Sound off Broncosnation… let’s hear what you think!

  • http://broncosdraft.wordpress.com Christopher Hart

If and only if Marshall is out due to suspension, otherwise absolutely not.

  • SivNiz

The Pats got a lot out of Randy Moss, maybe McD thinks he can do the same for TO?

  • SanDiegoBronco55

dude all im saying about this situation is that since we are already acting like the drama filled cowboys, might as well freakin sign him up….lol, yeah right…no way….not a chance! but am i mistaken, was it, dawkins or trotter that backed up TO when he was on the Eagles?….not sure, somethin to think about…but dude, I say no, although if baby TO was suspended, it would help…

  • http://broncotalk.net RVG10

We need to spend our money and defense first and foremost. The conditions would have to be: Sign all our draft picks, and Marshall got the full suspension. Then I would consider TO only for a 1 year deal, tops.

  • Dennis

    No …. no ….. no ….. no way …. never …. no way….. never

  • Donna C Martin

Bringing in TO? As it appears that the Broncos are taking a new executive/management turn (business model), why would they bring in a live-in prostitute in house with a newlywed organization? We all know that T-R-O-U-B-L-E is that last thing that the Broncos need to concentrate or worry about in this new marriage. The decision to consider him is just not sound executive practice- the Broncos have a higher vision than that. To run with “displaced energy” is a terrible thing to have “to tackle” with down the road! Therefore, say “SO” to T.O… We’re looking for family- a longterm successful family, and Jay Cutler as the strong cohesive step-mom.

  • Vince_Marine

NO, NO, NO!!! He has ruined every team he has ever went to, plus he drops to many balls to get that kind of money. If we are going to spend the money on reciever (because B-Marsh can’t stay out of trouble) go after Boldin. Otherwise use the money for more defensive help.

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

How’z about a post of the stable of Bronco running backs? Who are the thoroughbreds and who are the glue-sticks?

    – Buckhalter
    – Hillis
    – Torain
    – Arrington
    – Jordan
    – Pittman (or did we cut him and I didn’t hear it?)

Who doesn’t make it outta camp?
    Who is the starter?
Should Hillis play HB or FB?
If you play Hillis at FB then teams will never know who’s going to get the ball…

  • Boisebroncoguy

I think Jay’s fastball might break T.O,.’s fingernails. I don’t know if T.O. could recover from that.

  • ssc

+1 to boisebroncoguy’s broken fingernail comment. nice. we’ve all felt the jay cutler drama the last few days — who needs that every week from TO?

why are we not re-signing DRob to play DE? i know we cut him for his ridiculous salary, but he’s still unsigned and c’mon, he would be devastating next to a 330lb NT that’s consuming the double-team. can you imagine how much freedom the rushing OLB would have coming around DRob’s side? i don’t know that DRob shouldn’t get Canty money.

  • NathanH

Cutler throws too hard for his rock hands. He’s a team cancer too, I want no part of him.

  • OC Bronco

This is where Shanahan may have taken a chance. Bad idea and McDaniels won’t go near him. Moss never had the same issues – he was just lazy and took plays off but everyone in the locker room liked him.

  • Rob Bronco

No chance. The Broncos can’t afford him – financially or mentally. He’s a constant drain and a media whore, and the last thing the Broncos need is more negative media attention. Owens has the “my way or the highway” approach, and that won’t sit well with Cutler, who is already overly sensitive.

The Broncos should steer WAY clear of T.O. and focus on building the defense through the draft.

  • Kawike

Absolutely not! Can anyone guess why the cowboys missed the playoffs this year? It’s not for lack of talent, its because of the bad attitude predominantly created by cry-baby T.O.

  • http://www.milehighhockey.com Dario

No. Two wide outs with lots of drops is a recipie for disaster.

The only positive is that cutting TO should send a clear message to Marshall that anyone can be cut.

  • http://www.ihatenatewebster.com Broncoireland

    stay clear of this creep

  • conductormann

Dallas released Roy Williams this morning.

  • jvill

    Ha. No.

If we all thought the Trade Jay Drama that get everyone’s knickers in a knot was bad, TO in the locker room would be so much worse.

  • broncobilly32

TO got skillz, but no way would I want that presence in the locker room. The dude is a magnet for trouble. The Broncos are in enough right now anyway. Also, Cutler is such a baby, one wrong look from TO and he will cry that nobody likes him or wants him.

  • http://yourfantasysportshome.blogspot.com David

Bowlen should definitely consider signing T.O.

..and here’s why this deal makes sense…

first, sure TO is a malcontent that is disruptive and has been characterized as a cancer in the locker room. Why he didn’t work out in Dallas, two words…Wade Phillips. How many times was TO put in check by the team? I don’t recall any big news, “Cowboys fine TO for remarks” or “Phillips suspends TO for two games w/o pay” Sure you never intended to sign a player you would have to babysit, but then you knew what you were getting. The problem in Dallas is they let this guy run amuck. It didn’t matter as long as they were winning, but when they failed to make the playoffs, he NOW becomes the reason.

Second,With the imminent suspension coming (and it will come) for Marshall, big-armed Cutler is going to need a big target. You know what TO can bring and you set him straight, he won’t be welcomed with the baggage. The team will only make good on the deal, if he makes good. Underline the clause, he will surrender his signing bonus (and his price is going to be much less this time around, because this is his third strike-$5-7m?) if he is released for conduct detrimental to the team. Lace the deal with the understanding this is a “No tolerance” situation. This won’t be camp “cupcake” for TO.

Third, without Baby TO, Owens will step into that natural role and together with Cutler, both could be dynamite. When Marshall returns, Royal moves to the slot (Welker) position, and with Baby T and TO on the outside, it’s pick your poison, another pro bowl year for Cutler, a playoff bid for Denver, and an unstoppable offense heading into the playoffs…that’s my take.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

TO got jealous of Romo and Witten getting too close. Cutler and Marshall LITERALLY do sleep overs.

Hehehehehehe this would be fun to cover for certain, lol, but hell no, no TO.

  • Anthony

Only if we sign him to a 1 year $1 million contract that’s the only way it makes sense to sign him because cutting him wouldn’t cost us anything after and on top of that we play the NFC East this year who Owens traditionally kills.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

David, you make a lot of good points, but that only works when you have a group of receivers mature enough to share the ball.

TO is not that person. With Marshall, Royal, Stokley and Gaffney all wanting the football, Owens will go nuts.

We’ve got the talent at wide receiver, we’ve got a great duo of tight ends, and we have a fullback with great speed and amazing hands. I think we’ll be fine.

  • Lance

Can’t spell trouble without T.O. No way. unless there is a shut-up clause. We have enough touble with the whole Cutler trade issue, let sleeping dogs lie….

  • Wheat

I think this could help us alot especially if Marshall gets 8 games…Could you imagine Marshall and TO on opposite sides of the balll wit Eddie the ma in the slot…That couldnt be stopped. Could it?

  • TAS

Not gonna happen. He’ll be way to expensive and McD wants TEAM GUYS.

Turdell Owns is the ultimate-selfish player. (Ilovemesomeme?)

I hope this idiot signs with the Raiders and gets Randy Moss treatment.

  • Roy

NO!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!! We already have one cry baby on the team that doesn’t know how to censor his mouth. We don’t need another that is a bonafide team killer to boot. Besides, our #1 reciever already knows how to drop passes, he doesn’t need instruction from that idiot TO.

  • Dakota fan

Anyone remember TO bitching out Donovan McNabb? San Francisco QB (I can’t remember, too many since then)? Tony Romo? Coaches? Trainers? Waterboys?

This guy is poison- I know a lot of pro athletes don’t buy into the team first concept, but this guy is the Yoko Ono to the Fab Four. (Actually, I’m not old enough to remember the Beatles, but Wikipedia was a great resource).

  • Jack Burton

Hold on now, I don’t think there’s been nearly enough drama in Bronco Nation this year. It was said recently we’re starting to feel like the Cowboys around here so why not go the final step and bring one of them in! Come on over, TO! Bring the drama! Sign Pacman too. Hey look at this! Ashley Lelie is available! WOO HOO!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

Oh! Good Jonathan, you’re back =P Bring in T.O., I’ll take a IS over a never was. I was excited as hell the last time that I thought that we had a chance at him.

  • Tom9798

No way T.O. . . . Randy Moss was 30 yrs. old when he left the Raiders for the Pats . . . . Owens is 35 yrs. old, has definitely lost a step, did not help Dallas win a playoff game the whole time he had been there . . . . can’t afford having this guy yelling at Cutler during a really important game (they will all be important) . . . . he will end up a Raider . . . they all yell at each other and the fans anyway . . . .

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

The lineup of TO, BMarsh, and Royal does make me salivate, but I still think you have to take a pass on him. I would love to see him crying for Cutler though. “You’re talking about my quarterback, man!” I saw Torry Holt wants out of St. Louis, there’s another Rod Smith type if we need a fill in this season.

  • BroncosFan24

I would really like the Broncos to sign Roy Williams because he’s a really good safety!

  • soxbigdog

Only… AND Only if Marshall is suspended for at least 8 games… but I am sure by the time that decision comes down.. TO will have gotten millions elsewhere

  • mike

I also read the article saying that Torry Holt wants out of St. Louis and if the Broncos are going to sign a potential #1 receiver to cover for Marshall if he gets suspended, I would sign/trade for Holt any day over T.O. Holt is 32, probably wouldn’t cost as much as T.O. and would be a much better locker room presence. People have kind of forgotten about Holt the last few years, since he has been stuck on a very poor Rams team, but back in the Warner years and even with Marc Bulger, he has put up some huge numbers and I think he would be a great fit with the Broncos if McD decides that we need to bring in another WR.

  • BroncoinVA9986

Cutler would be the best skilled quaterback TO ever had….I just home from work and the gym and feared there would be a post about this….Don’t want its like me telling you you can sleep with the hottest girl in the world be she has a verneral disease that you don’t want……NO WAY but maybe he will learn one of these days…..just wait for the ESPN rumors guys these should be fun

  • Joe H.

Roy Williams is not a good safety. He is slow can’t cover nobody. We got the best safety available in free agency with Dawkins and also signed that other safety from Miami(forgot his name) so why would we sign Roy Williams??!!!

  • Joe H.

Oh yeah and that would be a HELL NO to T.O.!!!!!!!!

  • T-Money

No thank you. Take you’re personality issues somewhere else. I heard Javon Walker is giving advice about job searching. Go talk to him (use cation though. That knee is contagious).

  • BroncosFan24

Hey Joe H., if Roy Williams sucks so bad howcome he’s a 5 time pro bowler?

  • BroncoinVA9986

BroncosFan24 Roy williams is good but extremely overrated….5 time pro bowler….well thats kinda of like the 13 probowlers the cowboys had and still couldn’t beat the giants two years ago so you know PRO bowl voting is done by fans so you know we got dawkins, but Roy williams would be better than what we had last year

  • Joe H.

Ok he might be a 5 time pro bowler but as I said before we already signed Dawkins and that safety from Miami(still don’t remember his name)so why would we sign Williams when the Broncos have already addressed the safety position. We do have other needs!!

  • BM

roy williams would only be good on runs down because he gets torched on pass plays i still remember that giants game where all eli had to do was put a lil bit oftouch on it and burress had 3 tds all over top of a clueless williams… hell no to TO…. hillis could play fullback and be that McClain role ( the probowl fullback from baltimore) who pretty much was a running back but would block when mcgahee was in

  • broncoNM

There are other options when Marshall gets suspended. Cheaper vets on the FA market or we could just have royal, gaffney, and stokely hold it down. Roy Williams is a horrible idea at safety. He literally cannot cover anyone. The only way i would consider him is if he was really cheap and we try him at LB.

  • broncoNM

If we are gonna take a chance on an ex-cowboy my vote is for tank johnson.

  • BroncosFan24

Joe H. and BroncoinVA9986, those are some really good points. I just hope our safety from the dolphins (Renaldo HIll haha) can help us. BUt hopefully we pick someone up in the draft that can help us. I was hoping to see Brian Orakpo from Texas fall back to our pick so we could get him.

  • BroncosFan24

And NOOO to T.O.!!!!!! I would rather the broncos sign Torry Holt who is just as good and can keep his mouth shut!

  • Brian

Maybe T.O would be just the cancer the Broncos would need in order for Josh Mc Daniels to hit the unemployment line. I can only hope Josh is smarter than that. Besides, I want to see how Royal is going to be after a year in the league. Good times!

  • jcampb72

the only way id sign T.O. is if there was a no emotion clause, no yelling at the QB clause and no talking to the press clause

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

Here is a tidbit for those comparing this to the Randy Moss to the patriots move. While it is true that randy was 30 when he made the move, and TO is 35, TO keeps his body in better shape than most 23 year olds in the league. As far as losing a step…while with the Cowboys since 2006, he has caught more TD passes than any other WR, he’s like 3rd in yardage, and 13th in receptions over that stretch. He us still an elite receiving threat, still has great speed, is among the strongest WRs in the game today.
Here’s the problem with TO. everyone knows that he is a media whore. Everyone knows he wants every ball thrown his way. Everyone knows that he is unable to get along with a QB (see Jeff Garcia-SF, D. Nabbs-Philly, Tony Romo-Dallas. This is the reason that he won’t get anymore big money contracts. The whole league knows what to expect from him.
If TO were to find a new home in Denver, for relatively cheap, I would be okay with that signing. Yesterday I posted my absolutely not rant, but after thinking it over, why not? A 1-2 year deal with some behavioral clauses would suit me just fine. He generally gets along with everybody for the first two years, so anything longer than that may be a mistake, since we have an overly-sensitive QB already. Maybe a deal similar to Dawkins contract, 5 years that can b voided after 2? It couldn’t make the team worse, could it? Besides, Holt will cost us money and either a player or mid-late round draft pick, TO is an UFA….just my opinion
