According to ESPN’s Bill Williamson, Jay Cutler is so angry at Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders that he wants out of Denver. The trade talks have allegedly ruined his trust in them. Personally, I’m highly disappointed in Jay Cutler, this is not the action of a team leader. Only hours after the trade talk craze and he wants out just like that.

“The relationship has been tarnished,” the source said. “I think it’s beyond repair.

“It’s like a knife to Jay’s heart,” the source said. “It will be hard for him to get past this.”

McDaniels certainly has his hands full with this one. This is certainly a disappointing day for all Denver fans. Could Jay Cutler really don another jersey in 2009? It’s highly unlikely due to the lack of quality QBs available. In an attempt to put any more personal bias out of this story I’ll just leave the link to his article.

you guys do know that fan is short for fanatic. Don’t let your emotions rule your opinions. I like logic.

  • olen

Well friends it is a good bet that when a certain former coach returns to coaching a team there will be an opening for Cutler . Now think about that.

  • shanarat

    out

  • rcsodak

    Laughable.
Kerry, have you even read any of the articles? Where the FO explains what happened? Where X say Cutler is NOT on the trading block?
Good grief! Refrickinlax! You sounding like a 10yr old having a tantrum!

  • Craig P

I don’t get the overreaction here — both Cutler’s and a lot of fans. So Tampa Bay and another team called up the Broncos to propose a trade involving Cutler. Did the Broncos initiate it? NO. Did they follow through on it? No. I love Jay Cutler and think he’s enormously talented but he needs to develop a thicker skin because these kinds of rumors and trade proposals happen every year.

Regardless, though, I hope he and McDaniels can sit and talk about this and get back on the same page because this is not a good way to spend the off season.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

We can OFFICIALLY kill this, I have from TWO people that I know inside the Denver Broncos that everything is cool with Jay Cutler and no, no one was ever, “Actively shopping,” Cutler. There were requests, but nothing ever taken into consideration.

So there you have it my loves, take it from the kid that was there when Adam Shefter was learning how to sign-off =) And was simply working for the lowly Denver Post.

  • DB

Mark my words…this is all a bunch of BS and Cutler, as Denver’s franchise quarterback, will stay in Denver. McDaniels never intended to trade Cutler. He’s a Pro bowl QB that has proven himself in the league to be one of the top QB’s of his era.

If Cutler has his little feelings hurt like a little girl over a proposed trade, then the Bronc’s should get rid of him. What kind of leadership is Cutler showing right now to his team?

  • http://horviltiki.com Horvil Tiki

hey guy I beleef the xanderd the mcdanels when they say they just listen. The cbsdenver vic lombardo seem like he is foul. or he quick to makey real bad informatonal. He say the bronco active shopped. he say they still try to trade the custper. I think this guy seem foul cause some one is not right guy.

  • http://merlinofchaos.livejournal.com E. Halsey Miles

Ian: Thanks. I kind of figured it was a bunch of BS. I bet Bill Williamson got some wind of it and went “SCOOP!” and wrote that story and everyone else had to react.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    Ian-

So Cutler and McD are on the same paige now? And all this is over with and everything can go back to normal?

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

Gee. I go to bed watching videos of Dawkins destroying Terrel Owens, Flattening a Falcon and performing an Angle-Slam on some Redskin. And I wake up to this.

My take, for what its worth is that this is inexperience. Would a seasoned GM and Head Coach have “entertained” the idea? They’d have hung the phone up with a polite no, once they’d stop laughing. But they caught a GM who had probably never taken a call like that before. My bet is, if they could do yesterday again – it would be 100% different.

Is this as bad as Dan Reeves drafting Tommy Maddox?

And one more thing. Anyone but the Bucs, can’t stand the thought of the Glazer’s getting what they want.

  • orangealways

This is a HUGE sign of what complete morons are now in charge. Nice pick Pat, seems the little genius is an absolute ass! Trade Cutler???…for Casell???!!!!! Are you f’n joking? I wouldnt want to be you Pat, you’ve been a great and loyal owner, but this is your waterloo bro, Jay stays, the NE dipstick goes. Make it so, or lose us!

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

And one more thing. Prof X HAD to discuss this with McD. That is what happens when you have a 50:50 partnership with neither of them being more senior. X did not have the authority to give a blanket no. He had to take it to McD (or the other way around). I don’t think this will be the last time something like this happens.

  • Jpweave

    Note to Jay Cutler:

Quit being a pussy it was just business! Go get out on the practice field or in the film room and learn McDaniel’s system and be yourself. Prove yourself, win games, make the pro bowl again, and win in the playoffs and big games.

  • http://www.saintroccokennels.com Steve W

McDaniels made a point of emphasis: “We don’t want to trade Jay. We never did. He’s our quarterback. We’re excited about this season. And excited about what we’re doing here in free agency to improve our team.”

What part of this statement does the media and Jay Cutler not understand. The media is just trying to stir controversy and our young QB took the hook instead of getting his facts straight.

  • Vince_Marine

I agree, the Broncos never WANTED to trade Cutler. All they did was listen, hell who wouldn’t. Detroit is still floating that 1st pick in the draft to us for Culter, who wouldn’t listen to that? What I like from the front office is that they are trying to improve this team and get us back to the Superbowl at all costs. If that means Jay getting traded then so be it. This is a TEAM effort, not the Jay Cutler show. Sack up Jay and get ready for an awesome season!!!

  • Scott

Alot of opions from Denver fans who care. I love it. We are passionate about this team, and I think this is great. That said, Keep your panty’s on people. Use a level head on this one. Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders are smarter than this. I really think that teams like Tampa and Detroit were testing a brand new staff to see if they could pull this off. Why not? Heck, our coach and GM are still in their 30’s. Obviously, they decided to keep Jay and would not shop him. The key word in all the “trade talk language” is entertained. That’s all they did was entertain the offer. ONLY LISTEN TO ADAM SCHEFTER. He was the first to break this, and then all hell broke loose. The guy’s that lit the fire on the situation with all the misinformation and drama were Lombardi and Williamson. These guys want to be the next big thing and will do whatever it takes to make the biggest impact on their own careers. There is a reason Adam Schefter is one of the best in the business for accuracy and fact.

It also does not help that Jay is not showing his poker face and putting this thing to rest. All he had to say was “Trade rumors happen all the time, if I hear something concrete from Bus Cook or Brain Xanders, I will respond at that time.”

Jay needs to learn to keep his feelings in-check and not fly off the handle. Keep in mind, no other player is on the books with a quote, only Cutler.

  • Vince_Marine

    Williamson is a tool!!!

  • stav

Williamson passing around misinformation without any real backup? Nah, that never happens!! He figures that since he’s part of ESPN he better blow up with some crazy scoops, but he’s only riding Schefter’s coat tails. I can only agree, what Schefter says is what I always go by.

  • stav

The only story to go by, if this is true, which is most likely since he broke it, than Cutler needs to calm down and Bowlen/Xanders need to come out and confirm this:

    http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/28/cutler-upset-over-potential-deals-to-detroit-tampa-bay/

  • Colorancher

I agree, somebody needs to let the fans know what the truth is before we lose respect for Mcdaniels and others. You don’t trade a Pro Bowl quarterback. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dakota fan

Man, this seemingly is getting out of control. If McD, Xanders, Bowlen and Cutler don’t settle this thing soon, it’s really going to get ugly.

But since free agency opened, I’ve learned a very valuable lesson about the media: pick a select few trustworthy sources and take all of the other garbage with a grain of salt. I know you all have your favorite football sources on the web, but some of the garbage that’s out there looks like TMZ trying to report on a national security briefing.

Looks like Denver is succumbing to the nature of the NFL these days: pamper and tiptoe around the pouting superstar while he runs his mouth and ruins his own stock to the rest of the NFL. He may be a damn good quarterback, but someone needs to tell Cutler to shut his mouth and play football.

  • Ocrush

okay sure it all seems like water under the bridge, but when its time for cutler to sign his extention or marshall to resign do you really think they wont be thinking about this and decide to just go for the money…This is a trust or lack of trust isssue that never goes away.. Now we know why Shanny was running the show there becasue no one sems to have a clue…

  • Nonya Binness

Someone tell McDaniels that Denver doesn’t want to be the ‘back-up gang’ from New England. Don’t get me wrong. The franchise needed some changes (that’s why McDaniels was hired), but the #2 offense from last year shouldn’t be his first pet project.

If Cutler’s traded, I’m ebaying my season tickets till this jerk’s fired.

  • T-Money

Poor Dawkins. We get he to sing a huge deal and it gets overshadowed by this shit. WELCOME TO DENVER.

  • T-money22

If the story about them trying to trade Cutler is true I can’t understand what they are trying to do. Cutler is a fan favorite and one of our best players. This gets the new coaching staff off to a rough start and just looks stupid. They should be focused on fixing our horrible defense instead. The offense is good and will only get better with Cutler leading it, but the defense is one of the worst in the league. The only thing the organization ever tries to do to fix the defense is sign mediocre players who are years past their prime and we’ve seen how that has worked out.

  • http://laprit@lycos.com AtomicLeo

I don’t get this! Trade a Pro-Bowl QB AND your first round pick. WTF? I would make more sense to me if we landed multiple 1st round picks either this year or next year, but givng away one of your best players and losing picks this year make no sense!

  • kerry

until a press conference is called and Bowlen drags his drunk out and squashes this Bullshit, then there isnt anything that says everything is “COOL” with Cutler and the Broncos. im tired of all these supposed “inside sources” everybody keeps “claiming” that they have. if McDaniels and Xanders wanna keep their jobs they better end all this right now. if Bowlen wants his wallet to stay fat he better end all this shit immediately. this is a disaster of epic proportions. if this was Elway’s job on the line Bowlen would swoop in and stop all this from happening.

  • Tony

I’d to start by saying this is the first time I’ve ever posted a message on a blog. However, the idea that we tried to trade Jay Cutler for Matt Cassel is so concerning I felt compelled to speak out. I’m genuinely struggling to understand how at this moment we could consider trading Jay Cutler for Matt Cassel. As of right now, at best Matt Cassel is a 1yr wonder. Can you say Scott Mitchell, AJ Feely, or Derek Anderson, among many other names? All guys that had one great season filling in for an injured starter only to sign bigger contracts and never return to the same level of play. Granted you could counter w/ Kurt Warner and Tom Brady, but there are many more Scott Mitchell’s than Tom Brady’s. Not too mention as of last month Quarterback was a position we thought we were set at for the next 10yrs w/ a young, strong armed, sometimes judgment challenged quarterback. What changed?

As a life-long Bronco fan it seems our new leadership is off to a shaky start by displaying questionable judgment as evidence by this dust up and the recent free agent signings. Hopefully, it all works out????

  • Angry Bronco girl

McDaniels is getting off to a great start. Cutler is one of THE best quarterbacks in the league and the first breath of hope since Elway retired. Leave him alone and worry about the defense that really sucks. I never thought I’d wish for Shanahan to come back!

  • Richard

God!! The only thing thats missing from this story is the cheesy organ music to acentuate the drama and the detergent commercials between episodes. Calm down. this is just a non story, just as important to the world as what kind of candy the Elways give out at Halloween.

I just wonder how many bullsh## offers Dan Reeves fielded for a John Elway trade in the 80’s? If there was a failure in this situation, it was public relations. McD will learn from this one. And people wonder why Shanny, Reeves and othe Broncos coaches were so tight lipped with the press.

I just have this mental picture of Brian Xanders eating a cheeseburger at his desk when the phone rings. After gulping down a bite, the following conversation takes place:

    “Hello”
“Hey Brian How about trading Jay Cutler for Matt Cassell and A couple of draft choices?”
    “Just a minute”
    As he gets up and walks to McD’s newly painted office he says;
” Hey Josh, wanna trade Jay Cutler for Matt Cassell and a few draft choices?”

    “No way”
    “OK”
    Brian walks back to his office, sits down next to his cold french fries and his new happy meal prize, picks up the receiver and says;

“No thanks, but thanks for calling.”
    CLICK.

And now thanks to a few wannabe junior reporters, we have
    A STORY!!!

The Wannabes call Cutler and blindside him by asking his reation to his impending trade.

“What’? He’s heard nothing, nor has his agent. Why, because there’s
    NO STORY!!!

Cue the organ music and the soap commercials.

  • CJ

What it comes down to if josh and xanders disagree on something like TRading Cutler! They have to confront pat and we all no he will never allow this to happen. the worse thing over this whole deal is that brandon marshall and jay cutler and alot of key players contracts will be up in 1 to 2 years and josh mcdanials just pissed alot of them off. however if denver makes it deep into the play offs they wont complain over a contract

  • nv#1broncofan

All of what has happened is speculation. Nothing has come of it. We all know how things get blown out of proportion by the media. This is definately one of those things. We were not at Dove Valley so we don’t know what took place. If McD did initiate a trade, maybe it’s because Jay can’t get over the firing of Shanny. Jay needs to just suck it up and take it for what it’s worth – media propaganda – if there’s not unrest, than they will create it.

  • Richard

CJ If there is a problem, it is with Cutler talking to the press BEFORE he knew what the real story was. He’s what 25 yrs old? He hasn’t learned that these people are not his friends. He then called brandon marshall, casey weigman, etc. He should have called McD, but understand, he doesn’t know him yet! Other than one or two courtesy calls and a face to face after the pro bowl, they don’t really have a relationship yet. What we have here is a failure to communicate(Strother Martin).

  • Pete

Look, the Bucs and Lions came to us. They CAME TO US.. we didn’t come to them. Do you really think that every year the Colts don’t get a few “we’ll give you this for Manning” trade offers? Do you think the Patriots don’t as well? Of course they do. It’s part of football. If the Broncos went to a team dangling Cutler, that’s a different story, but other teams came to the Broncos, and the Broncos rejected the offers THAT SAME DAY. Holy cow Cutler, GROW UP!!! I’m the biggest Broncos fan I know, and a huge supporter of Cutler’s, but for the love of everything holy, don’t be a whining little gash over other teams wanting you. It doesn’t mean you aren’t safe her. It only means that other teams wanted you and we said no. Grow up. Manning hears the same things every year, so does Brady, it comes with being a great QB. No pull your head out of your butt and get ready for the upcoming season!

  • T-Money

    First… T-Money22, I can’t believe you copied my name.

Second… As Ian pointed out before and you people seemed to miss I’ll make it bold so it sticks out this time… it’s all over.

    Ian Henson:

I’m trying to find out if the Broncos are going to say anything official. I haven’t learned anything new yet. There may be nothing new to learn, I’m hoping that Josh took Jay out for breakfast this morning and they talked about the future.

  • CJ

Great T-Money Ian Henson has been known for accurate reports just as adam schefter

  • Richard

Pete I agree with the They came to us. What should also be restated is that “Neither the Bucs nor the Lions had the rights to Cassell when they called”. And nobody has said anything about New England talking to McD about a trade. God, some people.

  • blueotis2

I agree with Pete, this will be a good test of Cutler’s maturity and character. Can he get past this part of the business in the NFL and go out there and perform. Suck it up Man!

  • Paul

I was supportive of the new leadership, but to trade the new face of the team now is crazy. Cutler is a probowler with a great arm. Something this team has hasn’t had since Elway. What is Bowlen thinking. Proven QB are so hard to find. He has chemistry with Royal, Marsh and Tony. Why mess that up. Cassel had a good year throwing to moss and welker, who couldn’t play with those weapons. Look how bad Eli looked without Buress. Cutler had his year with losig how many RB to injury, he carried this team that had a terrible defense. I really hope Josh repairs this relationship.

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

i wonder what part the pats played in this. Did they call up tampa and say, “you know if you get cassell you’ll be able to trade him to denver for a real quarterback.” just to stir the pot

  • T-Money

    CJ-

It’s more comforting to listen to than the 50 people in here beat this thing do death. Not to mention that we are all making it more dramatic then it needs to be.

  • Jason

I live in Lawrence, KS. I have no contact with anyone remotely associated with the Bronco organization. I could be an ESPN ‘source’. They will report anything to get some news. I drop by thier site now and again purely to see what RUMORS are floating, most of which they start.

ESPN = Gossip mag for sports.

  • ryan

I hate the new coach bring back mike. this dude wont make it three months.

  • Jay from the bay

i beleive thaat the best move for the broncos at this point is to bring in a proven QB like Kurt Warner, trade Cutler to Detoit for the # one pick and draft Bradford and mauluaga and move on with improving this team we dont need no babies out there.

  • CJ

    Jay from the bay-

Wow i believe Kurt warner looked good purely becuase of Larry fitzgerald Anquon Boldin Steve Breaston and Lenard Pope All pro bowlers if not potential pro bowlers. If Kurt Goes anywhere other than arizona he will not have the season he had last year. I mean all he did was throw it up and larry would dominate dbs. Jay Cutler is far from being a bust. He will be coming back to denver this year and will have many outstanding seasons to come. Thats if we dont trade him.

Bradford and mauluaga are decent i mean mauluaga has a hamstring injury from running his forty and bradford hasent really blown anybody away with his skill

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Sam Bradford isn’t even in the draft this year.

  • Colorancher

Warner is too old. You need a young gun to build the team around. Cutler will stay. I do hope we draft Malalugaor Cushing. Studs!!

  • preytell

according to the ch4 web, they’re kissing and making-up today. Bout time !!!
