All of the signings have offered great depth and Dawkins brings instant impact … we still need a better D-Line and Linebackers , not to mention CB’s …. Chris Canty and Ray Lewis … and that guy from St Louis Bartell … and it would be a great offseason

but Hill with Dawkins in the same defensive backfield with Champ is automatic !

This is shaping up nicely but we need to draft some young DB talent in this years draft for the future because 3 of our starting defensive backs will be 30+ yrs old. You couldnt ask for better mentors than champ and dawkins. Whoever we draft will have some amazing guys to learn from.

I love all of these signings… Dawkins has a few years left in him. He is also a great emotional leader and will give the D some Swagger… if we could get Ray Lewis and then just draft the sh## out of D line it will be a great offseason… I am so jacked about this

With all the needs they have, the first player they sign is a fricking long snapper…are you fricking kidding me…Bowlen fired Shannahan for this?

Sorry for the double post, but I was listening to 104.3 at work and they were saying its now likely Stoakly gets released or we shop him. He’s due 3.5M I believe they were saying, and with the aquisitions of Gaffney and potentially Anderson, he’s probably not worth that much to possibly be the 4th WR.

What do you guys think about this? What kind of pick could we get for him? A late 4th maybe?

If Dawkins has indeed signed then that is the first decent thing they’ve done, even if he is 35. He can definitely help.

What’s wrong with the guys they signed?
According to walterfootball.com rankings and ratings, and although this may not be the ultimate source, I believe ranking free agents is much easier than ranking draft choices since these guys have actually played football in the NFL.

Anthony33 If anyone from walter football knew his A$$ from a hole in the ground they would be employed in the nfl instead of running a mediocre web site. Keep your pants on bud, we have the core for a really great Offense and Buckhalter and Jaffney are really good role players for what McD needs to do to give us a 600pt season. The Defense has to be raised from the dead and that doesn’t happen in one day. Judge what has been accomplished after the draft in April. And by the way Dawkins has been to 7 pro bowls, is a leader(which we haven’t had since Al Wilson was hurt) and will get the locker room turned around. Bad morale kills football teams.

I think D. Anderson is a great pick up. He is smart, surprisingly fast (ran a 4.5) and tough. This is the exact type of WR you want in the system the Patriots were running.

Stokely is getting older and is not as durable as one would like for a guy taking serious shots over the middle. D. Anderson could possibly be a poor man’s Welker and put up good numbers as we will see 5 WR sets pretty frequently.

All im saying is hill and dawkins are good signings…But they are not long term solutions. It is crucial that our draft picks prepare us for the future. Our draft will of coarse be centered around the defense but we may want to invest some picks on DBs for some depth and future prospects for dawkins and champ to mentor. Half the reason we signed dawkins was for his leadership.

B-Dawk and Hill are huge for us. This shows that McD has it together. Bring in some vets who can still play at a high level (probowl2008), but who can TRAIN our D from the inside out. Our young guys will feed off their enegy. And to think that we are makin moves for Ray Lewis!!!! That would be ridiculous. Anyone we drafted would be twice as good with their tutelage. Can’t complain about RB depth either. Arrington has big-play potential. Great day 1. Nowabout that nose… Should we trade up in the draft to ensure we get B.J.?

Read the post. I said Dawkins was good move if they indeed end up signing him. In my opinion, from what I have read, the rest of the group is similar to what they just got rid of.

Dawkins is exactly what they need at FS. It may only be for a couple of years, but so what, they buy themselves a couple of years at that position with someone that can help set a tough nosed attitude and culture for years to come.

NBC, reports that the Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with linebacker Andra Davis.

ProFootballTalk.com’s got the Broncos with finalized deals for Darrell Reid, former DT for the Colts, and Andra Davis, former LB for the Browns. Reid is more a special teams star, but perhaps they see something from his backup time in Indy. Davis is stout, one of the longest serving Browns.

Personally, I think I’m kinda diggin’ this mass collection of B and C List players, sprinkled in with a star signing or two. It’s reminiscent of the style of the early 00’s Patriots. They grabbed middle-tier veterans like they were Pokemon.

To say that Andra davis isn’t any good is wrong. He has been the only consistant piece of the Browns defense for years. He had 90 tackles last year, and although he has lost a step, he still provides valuable depth.

To those who are saying that we are signing a bunch of guys that are getting old, the idea is this. If we have these guys now, it means that we either don’t have to use a draft pick on the position, or McD is bringing in veteran leadership and experience to help the young guys reach their potential. Personally, I think it’s great.
