Talk about adding injury to insult. The Denver Broncos not only endured a tough 24-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, they suffered a scary injury to one of their biggest playmakers, too.

WR Brandon Stokley suffered a concussion in the first half of the game and did not return. The ninth year player had three catches and the game’s only touchdown when he left the field. “I got slammed to the ground and the back of my helmet hit the ground,” Stokley said after the game. “I still don’t feel good. When you have a brain injury like that, time is the only thing that can make it heal.”

Stokley joins an increasing number of Broncos missing in action due to injury. Tony Scheffler and wide receiver Eddie Royal both missed the game with groin and ankle injuries respectively. Running back Selvin Young also missed the game with a groin injury.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was hopeful some or all of these players would see the field next week in New England. “Hopefully we’ll have them back. [WR Brandon] Stokley had a concussion and we’ll see how serious that is. Hopefully [WR] Eddie [Royal] can come back next week. He’s got a bone bruise, and hopefully that will clear up.”

All of our weapons underneath were missing in this second half. Scheffler, Royal or Stokley in the slot, Young out of the backfield… it was pretty much Brandon Marshall and Glenn Martinez out there running routes, with an occasional tight end mixed in, that’s it. If only our bye was this week… hopefully a few of these guys will be ready for Monday Night Football against the Patriots. Hopefully Stokley feels better from his concussion and it’s nothing season-threatening.

In Denver’s defense…. We had just about everything working against us. Just about every play there was another injury. Just a bad day.

Yes, I agree that Denver got some bad calls and lacked some playmakers, but the thing that concerns me the most in this game was the level of Cutler’s play.

Cutler made some bad decisions throwing the ball and, again, missed some targets (For example, Nate Jackson had an easy 6pts if Cutler didn’t over-throw the pass).

I’m not jumping off the Cutler-wagon. I love the kid. I just want to see some more consistancy from our talented young QB. We all know he has the arm strength and accuracy to play at a Pro Bowl level… I just feel like there have been a few plays where he’s missing a bit of focus.

Let’s get our players back healthy, get our heads & hearts into the game and kick some butt next Monday Night!

I think Cutler needs a bye week more than anybody. He needs to get his mind off of football and all the hype that the media gives him.

This whole team just needs to recharge it’s batteries.
