Shanahan Voted Coach of the Week

Denver Broncos Head coach Mike Shanahan is the Motorola NFL Coach of the Week for games played on September 14-15, the NFL announced today.

Shanahan led a Broncos team that stunned the San Diego Chargers in a last-minute 39-38 victory.  The Broncos offense gained a total 486 yards led by QB Jay Cutler who passed for a career-best 350 yards and four touchdowns. WR Brandon Marshall was Cutler’s favorite target completing 18 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown. With the Broncos down by one, following Cutler’s final touchdown completion to rookie WR Eddie Royal, Shanahan went for the two-point conversion. Cutler hit Royal over the middle to seal the victory.  The Broncos defense forced one turnover and limited the Chargers to just 80 rushing yards.

Shanahan was selected as Motorola NFL Coach of the Week from among three finalists by voters on NFL.com.  The other finalists were head coaches Dick Jauron of the Buffalo Bills and Jim Zorn of the Washington Redskins.

In January, voting will be held on NFL.com to determine the Motorola NFL Coach of the Year.

    Well, I’m not one of Shanny’s biggest fans–not that I dislike him, I’m just lukewarm– but I would like to point out one thing especially to be proud of with regard to this offense. While Shanny himself pointed out that he has had a terrible track record in the past for drafting recievers, this year’s offense features a bunch of home-grown young stars. Shanny deserves as much credit for seeing draft picks in Marshall, Royal, Scheffler, Clady and (of course) Cutler “pan out” as he does for the coaching work this season. I really think Shannahan is turning a corner in the draft world and figuring out how to pick positions other than linebacker and running back. Hopefully Denver can become one of the rare teams which enjoys consistent draft success, and the Ashley Lelies and Deltha O’Niels of the world will just be distant memories.

    Thats how we does it shanhan, shanhan tell evry body what time it is. Has the hooge grapedfruits go for 2 forget the criticals, now we know why shanhan build such big house, he build on rock, to contane the hooge grapedfruit.
