Marshall

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall has officially filed an appeal to NFL offices regarding his recent 2-3 game suspension, the Denver Post reports. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to hear the appeal and make a ruling before the start of the regular season.

Marshall’s lawyer Harvey Steinberg had some very strong words for the Commish and the Personal Conduct Policy in general after the immediate announcement of the suspension. I’m interested to see how far he is going to take this appeal – if he wants to, he could question the very policy itself. To me, that’s a good thing.

The good news is that it sound like Goodell might be willing to drop the suspension from 2-3 games to 1-2, based on the wording of the DPO report. Let’s cross our fingers that that’s the case.

I sure hope he does, I would love to see marshall on the field week 2. Although he is only taking it this far for his own good I bet, it is good that he is questioning the policy. I thought it was a little much response for no convictions.

Whenever he comes back, it will be a huge boost.

Yep. I’m having a bit of a problem with Goodell’s ‘leadership’ also. While Brandon may have earned himself a suspension, especially with the DUI, making headlines should not be a suspendable offense. I’m not sure if the thing with his ex just lost steam in the media or if it is actually a dead issue but if nothing else comes of it he shouldn’t loose time or money for it.
On the other hand Goodell’s heavy handed ‘justice’ has teams cautious of the kind of character players they are bringing in and helping/causing the poorer character players to remain more low key or, one could argue, clean up.
For a wile I was certain that there was a country wide conspiracy against football players from all police departments but I think there has just been an up bringing or culture created from high school on that gives football players a freedom to act without consequence. They get used to getting away with anything for the sake of helping the local team win. I think from the NFL down the culture, it seems, is beginning to change and you can see it in the college and NFL ranks especially. I just hope it’s trickling down into the high school ranks, especially in the states like Texas were high school football is bigger than some pro markets.
