Shanahan’s Playoff Promise

Denver Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan said it – the Broncos “will not miss the playoffs” this year. Mike Evans and Sandy Clough, AKA ‘The Sports Guys’ on FM 104.3 The Fan in Denver, interviewed Shanahan Friday morning, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below:

    Wow. That’s big… Really big. It’s actually unheard of…

    Shanahan is a master of coach-speak – he does NOT put himself out there like this. And I think this deserves the kind of attention it will get from the media as this is a true indication of the importance this season has for our Head Coach.

    This is the question folks:

    Is Mike Shanahan really that confident we can do this regardless of injuries and suspensions OR has he just explained his own ultimatum (read: I will make the play-offs or I won’t be here next year)?

    i very seriously doubt that it’s the i won’t be here next year part of that question. i think if we look like we did last season, that may be the case next year. i think that pat will stand by shanny for at least another season, and if there are signs of improvement he’ll stay behind him longer.

    whenever i hear the hot seat question, i always ask myself- if mike gets fired, who is out there to get in his place? we no longer have a kubiak type assistant to take over on our staff so it means we have to hire from outside. there’s nothing out there other than coaches who have been fired from several teams…. that doesnt excite me for some reason.

    an the Broncos have a good season yes I think so but as Homer once put it
    a general also has to have luck.
