In the above video interview with ESPN’s Ed Werder, Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler discusses how diabetes has impacted his life. He goes into a bit more detail regarding the specifics involving his insulin pump and how game day will work. He also covers the new Broncos acquisitions this year, and talks a bit about Brandon Marshall‘s situation.

My only question, Jay – Who is Ryan Claddy?

    Hi,
My name is Gavin and I am 9 years old and have been a type 1 diabetic for 1 1/2 years. I have not let diabetes control my life I play baseball, basketball and most importantly football. I am starting my second season as fullback and I play for the Houghton Lake Jaguars. Last season I averaged 2 TD’s a game. If you control your diabetes it won’t control you!! If I can do it you can too!!! Diabetes will not affect your football career, I haven’t let it affect mine. Keep your hopes up and good luck. P.S. I was always a big fan and now I am a bigger fan, we now have two things in common. I hope to talk to you about it someday.

My youngest brother was diagnosed with Type I when he was 4 or 5. He’s in junior high now, and while it was hard at first (obviously being so young), he’s now grown into such a solid routine that I don’t even think about it when I go home to visit.

    Thanks for sharing Gavin.
