Denver Broncos DT Carlton Powell Answers Your Questions

Carlton Powell, 5th round choice of the Denver Broncos, was nice enough to agree to answer a few questions from the readers. Check out his responses below.

From flbronco: What were your initial thoughts/emotions when you got the call saying you were headed to Denver?

I was just excited you know. There were a lot of things going through my mind because I’ve never been to Denver. Man, I’m just excited to get out there.

From Jonathan Douglas: I understand one of your nicknames in college was Causing Problems. You’re a renowned high character guy, so can you tell us how you got that particular nickname?

It actually came from mistaken identity because someone asked me what my name was and I told them Carlton Powell but they thought I said “Causing Problems” so it just stuck after that. Kind of funny.

From mikebirty: Hi Carlton and welcome to Bronco Nation. A lot of talk this year has been about how the Broncos have drafted players with good “character” this year. I was wondering if you could tell us a bit about some of the off field activities you are involved in and if you have a dream or aspiration as to what you’d like to do off the field in the future.

Off the field I just basically do class work but I’m also active with my Church and Bible study. In the future I plan on getting my Masters and starting a career either in physical therapy or pharmaceuticals.

azbronco7 asks: What extra steps will you take to make an impact on the team in year one?

Man whatever it takes. I plan on being in there everyday in the film room, weight room, on the field, talking to coaches, vets – whatever it takes.

inrodwetrust asks: After the dismal run defense the Broncos had in 07, what do you feel you can bring to the locker room and practice field to help right the ship?

I think just a positive attitude and hard work ethic. Just going out there everyday and bringing the lunch pail like we say at Tech.

From Christopher D. Hart in Fargo, ND: First and foremost, welcome to the Denver Broncos family. Now, here’s the question. Where do you see yourself playing on the Denver Broncos defensive line? Do you see yourself as a one-gap penetrating 3-technique, or do you vision yourself playing elsewhere?

I consider myself a 2-gapper, but I can play 3-technique, I can play on the end, and I can basically play anywhere because I’m a smart guy. Wherever they need me is where I’ll be.

Jose G., Calexico, CA asks: Welcome to Bronco Nation Carlton! I saw you play against BC and you were a possesed monster on the field! I love that non stop intesity you bring to your game. Many critics say your strength is defending the run, oppose to rushing the passer. I strongley dissagree. I think your an overall DT. Question, do you see yourself as a 2 down DT or plan on working your butt of to play 3 downs, plus special teams? We need you out there big Man! Good luck and God Bless!
