Peter King‘s latest edition of MMQB has a nice little nugget (one of the “Quotes of the Week”):
“JaMarcus has been able to play at a big weight. He really has phenomenal feet for that size, to be able to move around for that size. You’re never going to play with him at 260 or 255. If you think that’s impossible, that’s not his body. I think as long as you’re around 270 [with him], you’re doing really well.”
–Oakland coach Lane Kiffin, on his hefty second-year quarterback, JaMarcus Russell.
Whatever you say, coach.
Indeed, Mr. Kiffin. It’s funny: every time you hear rumors that Russell is putting on weight, the Raiders suddenly raise their “desired weight” for him by a few pounds.
