Invesco Field at Mile HighFor the sixth straight year the NFL has set a record for paid attendance league wide.  The Redskins held the top spot for paid attendance once again due in large part to the extra large stadium capacity of FedEx Field which stands at 91,655.  The Cowboys will be blowing these records out of the water if they ever open up their 100,000+ capacity option at their new stadium currently under construction.

Denver held the sixth overall spot with 1,120,996 in paid attendance.

Three other teams topped 600,000 in paid home attendance: the New York Giants (629,391), Kansas City Chiefs (622,541) and New York Jets (616,756). Eleven teams drew more than 1.1 million in paid attendance home and away during the regular season, led by Washington (1,264,890). The others were the Giants (1,187,915), Jets (1,171,564), Miami Dolphins (1,156,762), Chiefs (1,145,938), New England Patriots (1,131,027), Buffalo Bills (1,129,052), Denver Broncos (1,120,996), Philadelphia Eagles (1,120,090), Green Bay Packers (1,112,753) and Carolina Panthers (1,100,147).

Here was my response to a Chiefs forum that started blowing their own horn about these numbers:

Largest stadium seating capacity in the NFL:

    Washington Redskins (FedEx Field): 80,000
New York Giants (Giants Stadium): 79,469
Kansas City Chiefs (Arrowhead Stadium): 79,409
    Denver Broncos (Invesco Field): 76,125

    etc.

Are you beginning to see a pattern? When you have 5-20% more seating capacity then the rest of the league, you tend to fill more seats.

What these numbers really say is that Denver is selling out their games. Given this, I don’t see any reason for the distinction between the Giants, Chiefs, Broncos, or any other team that sells all their tickets. As far as I’m concerned, we’re tied for #1.

If we would’ve cut back on the luxury level when building the new stadium, and added more average joe seats, we could easily compete on this scale. Anyone have a current count on what the season ticket holder waiting list is right now?

If you have to ask, you’ll be dead before your name comes up.

I’ve been on it for almost 6 years now. For ONE ticket. My dad was on it for thirty years before he got the call.

Raider hater is right. What’s the point of this? Hasn’t every team sold out all of their games for the last couple of years? This might as well be a list of the largest stadiums.

Herc, I suddenly feel the need to drink. Heavily.

Herc, you interested in buying some tickets this season? O_0 What’s ridiculous is that we don’t have the rights to transfer ticket rights to interested parties, in other words friends. Another season ticket holder who I play fantasy football with is moving to Wisconsin, but they can’t transfer the tickets to their friend’s name who have been using them for the last 3 years.

The real problem is the fact that there are probably 20K dead people who are still season ticket holders. Their families just keep sending in the renewal forms every year w/out notifying anyone that he’s dead. Smart move on their part, but irritating as hell for me.

    lmao…. *raises hand*

Actually they have a form to fill out to pass them down through family members.

Ah. I stand corrected. I didn’t think they were letting people do that anymore.

My boss offered me two club level season passes yesterday. Unfortunately, I don’t have $8K burning a hole in my pocket.
