What are the Monday Morning Quarterbacks saying about the newest Broncos signing? Read on to find out.

Christopher Hart of The Beat

I think this is a decent signing. Colbert has #2 potential, but also has to be more consistent catching the ball and staying healthy. If he can return to his rookie season form and work hard in the off-season, Colbert could have a good first year with the Broncos.

Pat Yasinkas of ESPN Hashmarks

Very surprising that the first wide receiver the Broncos brought in for a visit was Keary Colbert. A former second-round pick, Colbert was nothing short of a complete bust in Carolina. … Colbert works hard, but he drops a lot of balls. He doesn’t have great size and has only very ordinary speed. What less could you want in a receiver?

More reactions from fans, and my thoughts, after the jump.

This is the kind of signing I was hoping to see. A young player who’s shown that he can produce in the right circumstances. No physical issues. No off the field bullcrap. Most importantly, it’s a signing that will directly benefit the most crucial player on the team. This off season should be primarily about helping Jay as much as possible.

I still want to see us look for at least one receiver on draft day. I don’t want one in round two, unless the value is simply off the chart. I think at least a couple real good ones could slide into round four in this deep class.

I wish we would have given Drew Carter a look over Colbert. Carter has the speed we need. Colbert was good at USC, but has been banged up for the better part of his NFL career. Unless he improves dramatically, he doesn’t provide us with a bonafide #2.

I’m feeling good about this for sure… The Broncos aren’t going to be like the Patriots last season and throw the ball 50 times a game. Our success comes from running the ball. I think Travis Henry will come full circle this year and Selvin will be the playmaking back. Colbert’s speed allows for a lot of underneath work for Stokley, Graham, or Scheffler (similar to Wes Welker’s role)… Be patient, this could be good.

Not a bad signing, but not a great one either. We’ll see how this works out. At least we got him for cheap.

My thoughts – It’s a little different this offseason, isn’t it? We’re not making megadeals for Dre Bly or Travis Henry, wining and dining Patrick Kerney and Daniel Graham… this is a young player with upside who we found on the cheap, considering recent deals given to Bernard Berrian or Donte Stallworth.

So I like the move. The Broncos were high on him coming out of USC, and some speculate he would have been our pick instead of Darius Watts, had he been available. He struggled in Carolina, but I definitely wouldn’t call him a “total bust.” Snagging 30 balls last year is a lot more than Watts did, that’s for sure.

He’s now our 3rd most talented wide receiver, with the youth and potential to grow into a #2. That’s exactly what I was looking for as we rebuild this team.

all of carolina is laughing at this, but I think he could surprise. crossing fingers

Colbert will be a hugh diapointment. He just can’t deliver when the heat is on. If you attack his confidence he just folds and has done it time and time again. He was trained to always say the right thing and to carry himself in a respectful way but truth is he has no heart or passion. You guys were taken…..
