I know we all HATE to see our team lose. I understand that it’s gut-wrenching to watch the Raiders beat us. I get that Denver’s 5-7 sucks rocks. However, on Monday morning (after a good long cry on Sunday), I want to hear something positive about my Broncos.

I’m not be optimistic. I’m not being naive. I’m not even being an extreme homer. I just want to hear a few positive things about my favorite team so I can enjoy my work week a little bit.

So, I’ll lead off the list with a couple of positive things:

From this last game…

* Brandon “Clutch” Stokley – No catches until late in the third, and then he explodes and gains over 100 yards including several key third down catches.

* Brandon “Too Big to Tackle” Marshall – You can’t stop Baby TO. He’s not my favorite Bronco, but I have to say that I’ve been impressed with this blocking last week and his continued yardage after contact. The big man is just hard to bring down. P.S. He also took the blame for Cutler’s second INT. Maybe he’s growing up after all.

* Todd “I won’t kick to Hester again, I promise” Sauerbrun – Actually had a pretty good bounce back game with several very big kicks.

* Nate “Where’s My Helmet” Webster – Nate’s been coming on strong, and this week he forced a fumble in addition to 9 tackles.

* D.J. “The Middle” Williams – A fumble recovery and… 13.5 tackles!!! That’s what I’m talkin about baby! :)

From the last few games…

* Selvin “Surprise Me” Young – What a great college free agent find again by Shanahan and company! Young has really impressed me despite my unwaivering love and support for…

* Andre “Atta Boy” Hall – Not only did we find one free agent RB that can put up 100 yards per game, but we found TWO! Hall had a great game a week ago (even when injured) and I foresee him becoming an even bigger part of our offense.

* Elvis “The Terminator” Dumervil – Come on! The guy is less than 6ft tall and STILL crashing the line! I LOVE him!

* Jay “Young Gun” Cutler
– He’s young but he’s learning. I’ve been very impressed with the developement of Cutler over the course of this season. I think anyone calling for Mike Shanahan’s head, should consider the fact that Cutler’s ability to produce the numbers he has this season (despite the numerous backup players at key positions) is PURELY because of Shanahan’s tutoring of this young man. Shanahan has coached three different QB’s into the playoffs and Cutler will get his shot too if we give them some time.

* All three of our Rookie D-linemen – Shanahan had a great draft in 2007. I’ve liked everything we’ve seen from our new D-linemen.

So, that’s my quick list. Anyone else have some positive things to say about our 2007 team?

    Thanks Jonathon! You are right! These are our Broncos and we take it all, good and bad. They will be fine. They have been good for so long this little downer is not something that we are used to in Bronco Nation. In Seattle, I am proud of the orange and blue. Broncos for life…now, fire Bates! Ha!

    The uniforms have been nice and clean at the start of games.

    Kudos, laundry guy!

    I’m extremely disappointed in the play of both our offensive and defensive lines from yesterday. We lost this game in the trenches, and that needs to be fixed if we’re going to compete for a championship in 2008.

    Like I said in an earlier post, I’m out of homerism for this season. Looking forward to watching each game for the love of football and for the love of my Broncos, but at the same time I’m all about XLIII.

    Herc – you kill me! Man, I almost got busted for blogging at work today when I burst out laughing at your comment. :)

    Honestly, win or lose I can always make myself get up Monday morning cause I know you’ll have a ridiculously funny post-game blog entry up.

    I’ll be happy when the broncos are playing for a Super Bowl again, but until then I’m glad I have my fellow bloggers to let me know that we’re all in this together!

    My positive note for the year:

    It’s our young guns that are carrying the team, not the seasoned veterans. The veterans have actually been the let down. Remember at the beginning of the year when all of the analysts kept saying the whole team will be a success, but it’s going to depend on Cutler to take them the whole way? Well, it’s been Cutler, Marshall, Scheffler, Young, Hall, and all the rookie DLs that have been bringing their game. Gives me hope for our near future. I think the big issue we need to address that keeps going unsaid is OL. We could really use a few guys to bolster the front and make it something special again. Nalen isn’t going to be around and with Hamilton in doubt I would like to see it addressed.

    Crosshare,

    Great points! I’m with you on the young guys stepping it up. It’s been the highlight of the year for me and has made me believe that our youthful team can go places (hopefully) for years to come.

    The O-line does need some help, but I’ve been more than surprised by Chris and the other young backup O-linemen this year. All things considered, they’ve done one hell of a good job.

    Thanks Jon,I appreciate that.

    Seriously though, I think Cutler has been as good or better than anyone really had a right to expect.

    Marshall has really developed into a nice player. It’s looking like he’ll be the best home-grown receiver we’ve had since Rod. That’s not saying much, but still…. If he can keep his mouth shut he could be something special.

    Dumerville is a top 10 DE in this league right now. He’s only going to get better.

    Stokley and Holland were good signings.

    I like Hamza a lot.

    That’s about it. It’s been a pretty tough year.

    It’s worth pointing out that while Dumervil is a top 10 pass-rushing DE, on run-plays he gets targeted a lot, and it’s up to the linebacker behind him to make up for the fact that his smaller size makes it easier for a big left tackle to push him out of the play.

    Sure, he’s great–fantastic, even–at getting to the quarterback, and we need that, but keep in mind that it’s also hurting our run defense. You take the good, you take the bad. I think his upside is worth his downside, mind you.

    There’s more, but I decided to make an actual post rather than a comment.
