The Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers square off in their first of two battles for the 2007 season. The teams represent the most recent winners of the AFC West and the frontrunners to win the division in the preseason. Both teams enter the game on losing streaks, hoping to turn their respective seasons around.
The Broncos have won all but 2 of the meetings against the Chargers at home since 1995. Last year, the team enjoyed a 17 point lead in the third quarter before the Chargers came back behind a huge performance by Ladainian Tomlinson to win 35-27.
It’s the second consecutive meeting in Mile High featuring a dramatic come-from-behind victory. The year before, the Broncos trailed the Chargers 14-3 at halftime before Champ Bailey intercepted Drew Brees and returned it for a touchdown. The Broncos won their first game of the year and would go on to win 12 more en route to an AFC Championship berth.
With both teams licking their wounded, and with their backs against the wall, the spin on this game is all about “not losing.” The Chiefs and Raiders are both on winning streaks, and whichever team loses will be struggling to make up the ground lost in the divisional standings.
We’ll have more breakdowns of the upcoming game, including opposing fan interviews, scouting reports, matchups, five steps to lose the game and more.
