OAK @ DEN

It’s storming here in northern AZ, and my power might go out again.  I’ll have full game thoughts in the hours ahead, but signing off for now!  What a heart-wrenching game!

4:45 – THE POWER WENT OUT AT MY HOUSE!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! BUT IT JUST CAME BACK AND THE BRONCOS WIN!!!!!

4:33 – Three and out in overtime after Jay Cutler isn’t able to connect to Selvin Young. I’m peeing my pants right now. Punt ahead.

4:32 – Third and 2 already at the Broncos 28… time for another huge, crucial play.

4:30 – Hixon to receive, touchback, now from their 20.

Overtime, and the Broncos will receive.

    Cheating!
I don’t know much about football. But to call a timeout like your coach did, is cheating in my book.

I actually had a friend sitting next to me watching the game that started shouting the same thing. :)

What really bothers me about that play is that even after Shanahan called the Ref over to the sidelines and told him that he intended to ice the kicker by calling a timeout, NO ONE on the field was watching the sideline Ref to see him accept the timeout.

Every team in the NFL uses timeouts like this to ‘ice’ the kicker. However, this is one of the first times I’ve seen the on-field refs miss the signal (especially after they were TOLD it was coming)!

This one is totally on the refs.

Hey, I heard the whistles before the ball was snapped. It’s not cheating, it’s perfectly normal. It happens in other situations sometimes too, just not usually quite this … stressful … of a situation.

Cheating, no. Questionable? Yes. Good gamesmanship? Yes. Expected against the Raiders? Oh, very much.

As soon as Shanahan called that timeout, I knew he did it because it was the Raiders he was facing.

    Idiots.

Cheating? Questionable? Not even close. Gimme a break. It’s fully within both the letter and the spirit of the rules. It’s been done over and over again by any number of teams. 9 times outa 10 it makes no difference, but this once, it “worked.” That miss is 100% on the rounded shoulders of Sea-Bass Janibrewski. Listen to Jason Elam and he’ll tell you he LIKES it when teams ice him. It gives him time to relax, get his bearings, examine the field, etc. before he has to kick.

Geez, try to think a little bit before you post, morons.

I saw this on RaiderTake.com and had to repost it…

    > McCown had 8 completions to raiders players, and 3
    > completions to broncos defenders.
