John (Moses) Browning
Denver just signed John Edward Browning — not be confused with John Moses Browning who revolutionized modern firearms. John Edward Browning is a 12 year veteran defensive lineman from Kansas City. He is listed at 6′ 5″ 297lbs and his career stats include 307 total tackles, 27.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.
Browning missed all of 2006 with back issues, so the question is what kind of shape is this 33 year old DE/DT in after being out of football for a year. We’ll get our first indication today as the former Chief is expected to be at Dove Valley for today’s practice.
Denver also resigned RB Cedric Cobb. With Travis Henry, Mike Bell and Andre Hall all expected to sit out this Saturday’s contest with injuries, Cobb could provide some depth to a RB corps that currently only has Cecil Sapp and Selvin Young. Since Cobb was with the team last year, he should be able to pick things up quickly and offer almost immediate aid to our depleted group of backs.
Today Cobb attended practice sporting Thump Belton’s old #33 jersey. Thump was released less than a month ago (for those of you not on the FREE Thump Belton mailing list). For Cobb this is a second chance to show what he can do for Denver. Last year, Cobb had a great preseason, but received harsh criticism when he got injured after muffing the OT kick-off during the KC game.
Let’s hope he makes the most of his second chance!
And finally, to make room on the roster Denver waived OT Jacob Rogers, who has battle injuries during camp.
