6:42 – I’m a little worried about our Kicker situation, but not really worried. Training Camp reports have said Elam is having trouble adjusting to the new holders now that Plummer is gone, and that may have been what caused the missed field goal tonight. Studs and Duds so far coming soon….
6:38 – The 49ers get the ball right back. Patrick Ramsey loads up, fires, and the jump ball between Hixon and two defenders lands in scarlet and gold hands. Wait.. now it’s a pass interference call! Broncos ball deep in Niner territory! Less than 10 seconds now…
6:35 – That a baby, Hamza Abdullah! The throw was terrible, and the interception was just a matter of catching the ball. But this fan favorite just jumped up in my books a tad bit more.
6:33 – I have to say, that replay set is a trip. Do the huge curtains around the television screen remind anyone else of The Wizard of Oz?
6:30 – I was laughing at the exact same thing as the booth guys… you can excuse Trent Dilfer… he doesn’t get to play that often. It will get reversed.
6:22 – I was just about to comment on the lack of pressure when good old Dumervil takes Trent Dilfer out. Not good enough though… the chains have moved yet again as the 2-minute warning approaches.
6:19 – Really nice punt from Sauerbrun (I believe – walked up and looked at the tiny jersey numbers an inch from my screen. I’m pretty sure it was a #10). I’m liking what I see from Tim Crowder in run support – look for #96 to keep busy on that d-line.
6:12 – Quincy didn’t look nearly as impressive that time. He stutter-stepped so bad he let the guy he dodged get back up and tackle him from behind. New Denver average starting field position – 34.6. San Francisco’s average (with that interception helping A LOT) – 38.
6:09 – Impressive so far – how about Steve Cargile nearly getting that pick? Another Nedney field goal brings it to 14-13 Denver. And I’m now caught up to the rest of the world… Can’t fast forward through those commercials.
6:04 – Correction – it was Adam Meadows who let the pressure get in Ramsey‘s face.
6:03 – The interception was caused by the pressure off the right tackle spot… I think it’s Ryan Harris, but I’ll get back to you on that one.
6:02 – Excitement immediately destroyed after our 3 and out. Interception, and I’m pretty sure it’ll hold if there’s a challenge. Here comes the challenge, but it’s not about feet in the field, but rather whether the defender had control of the ball.
6:00 – With that 25-yard-line tackle, the Broncos take the lead in the field position game for the first time tonight. Broncos, 38, Niners 35. Time to really get into these second string players. I’m now only about 3 minutes behind live TV…
5:53 – It’s a bit surreal, watching #30 run the ball for Denver again. But Mike Bell is doing great and making some good runs, while Cecil Sapp hasn’t looked all that impressive to this point. The story of this preseason game is the offense, and who isn’t thrilled about it? Usually these things are defensive, low scoring battles, but we’ve already seen 17 points in the first quarter. Not a bad game at all.
5:50 – What a return, Quincy Morgan!!! From the Broncos 3 to the Niners’ 38! That just happens to be our average now too – the 38 yard line.
5:45 – With the Niners starting on the 45, that brings their average field position up to 41.5. – Not good having Maurice Hicks running all over us like this.
5:41 – OK, stop talking about Michael Vick. Nice catch, Hixon. Bad hold, Pears. Special Teams average starting point is Denver 26, SF 38 (yeah, all one of them for the Niners). -12.
5:40 – Let this go down in the ole books – Broncos marched down the field and put up 6 on the first series. 49ers have to settle for 3. Definitely good stuff so far. Fast forwarding…
5:39 – Great stop by D.J. Williams.
5:36 – Champ just got beat, surprisingly. The next play, I definitely saw a brutally obvious hold on Engelberger, but we still got the sack. Keep that pressure up D!
Celebrate the game with me here (sorry I’m running late – technical difficulties got me home much later than expected).
So far in Special Teams we’re -6 in starting yardage… plan on keeping track of this all night.
I’m about 15 minutes behind “live” as I watch the TiVo’ed stuff. Travis Henry is freakin’ amazing – let’s just not see him get injured.
Or Cutler, for that matter. They’ll play nice because it’s preseason, but get near their endzone and SLIDE for crying out loud!!
Our offense looked great… fast forwarding through the commercials right now. I’ll have more detailed stuff later.
