“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”

— That song that, ironically, never ends being stuck in your head.

I started BroncoTalk in November of 2006 — days before the Denver Broncos decided to bench Jake Plummer. So this blog has survived quarterbacks Jake Plummer, Jay Cutler, Kyle Orton, Chris Simms, and Tim Tebow.

Like many an NFL defense, it will not survive Peyton Manning.

Folks, after a lot of thought, BroncoTalk – Denver Broncos Blog and News is coming to an end. That’s the bad news. The good news?

We’re moving. To Mile High Report.

Yes, “we.” As in, most of the BT Staff.

John Bena (The Sports Guru) is stepping down, and SB Nation approached me to take over as lead blogger. I accepted.

This isn’t an early April Fools joke. (I was half-hoping the deal would get finalized March 31st… that way we could announce it on April 1st… then really trip people out April 2nd after they all assumed it was a joke.) We’re not RaiderTalk-ing people here. We’re really moving, to the Big Dog of big dogs in the Broncos blogosphere.

So why would I give up BT to run MHR? It wasn’t an easy decision, but there are reasons. I’ll be transparent and lay them out here.

  • Running BroncoTalk interfered with Writing BroncoTalk. As far as the site and business go, BT has always been a one-man shop. I pay for the domain, the web server, maintain the code that runs it, and have been responsible for layout. I deal with advertisers and contacts around sports media myself. As the blog grew, this aspect took up more time than actually writing. At MHR, there are large groups of talented people to handle all of those facets. I’ll have support. I’ll be free to write.
  • MHR is bigger. A bigger audience and bigger community.
  • And, of course. I’ve never B.S.’ed you guys. It’s a financial move for me as well.

What does this mean for BroncoTalk as it is now? The BroncoTalk domain and site will remain as long as I see fit. It will stand as an archive of Broncos content. They did not buy BroncoTalk. But they did buy my exclusivity. I will no longer be actively updating BroncoTalk.

Who’s all leaving? Among BT Staffers: Josh Temple, Mr. East, Ian Henson, Christopher D. Hart, and Big Pete have agreed to move over to MHR with me. Others are still on the fence, either by my choice or theirs. Jon Heath won’t be able to come over at this time due to his contract at Bleacher Report. Be sure to support him over there.

Could someone else run BT? That’s something being considered.

Should I go over and check things out at MHR? Damn straight.

If you like the way I run things here, come on over to MHR. I’ll be running things that way over there too. I’ll be responsible for community guidelines, staff, and content/direction just as I have been here at BroncoTalk. But I’ll have a ton of support in the form of SBNation crew and the MHR staff in place.

Thank you.

Thank you, BroncoTalk readers, commenters, and emailers for an unbelievable six and a half years. Every comment, critique, piece of feedback, tweet, and email means the world to me. None of this would have been possible without you.

Is it the end of an era? Hell no, it’s the end of one guy writing for this one site. And from this end, a new beginning.

See you on the other side!

Doom, come over, try it out. You won’t regret it.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Thanks a lot my man, looking forward to this!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Thanks, thrilled to see you on the other side :)

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

(Or not see you, since you never commented! Appreciate the kind words)

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

That’s how I feel too. This site needed a facelift. This is just a drastic one!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Hell yes!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Thanks herc. Hope to see you over there.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

You’re welcome. Thank YOU for reading. Hope you still will.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Hope you’ll come on over to MHR!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Likewise.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Is there a right day for that?

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Wow, thanks Trog. You have a blog-author-worthy way with words.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Oh yes Fan From Spain, but I know you’re over there too! Can’t wait to correspond there.

  • http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2582236 Elway4Life

Oh I was gonna say I don’t really bet on horses much but did a little bit when I was younger! Lol. Cool that’s the section for Broncos news! No wonder I didn’t see much on the site then! Lol.
That’s cool you’ll be trying to bring the same close knit feel over there too Pete and writing the same as you did here! Sounds good! I shall check it out sometime in the future then and maybe make a user name!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Thanks so much!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Thrilled to hear it, thanks for reading and the kind words!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

You can think of it as selling out if you like, and you know I won’t BS you. But the great part about this move is that I will still be in charge at MHR. If you like the way I run things here, you will like it there… there’s just more to like.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Gracias senor.

No seriously, can’t wait to see you on MHR!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

I’m sorry people are losing that. That was truly never an intent of BroncoTalk though. Hopefully we can find a way for MHR to work for all of us!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Let’s do this Big Pete!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Ken, thanks for the kind words, and I’ll be in touch!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Yeah that’s just a horse picture. Think of Horse Tracks as our “Daily Links.” (They stole the idea from us anyway) ;)

Elway4Life, come on over to MHR and see how it feels. I think you’ll be surprised!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Thanks!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Woohoo! Thanks!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Bwaha, had to google that. You know me, no BS.

    Thanks!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Thanks! Bittersweet for us too!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

    Haha thanks!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Thanks flbronc, see you over there!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

I think he was one of my only bannings here on BT. He was warned many a time. I could be wrong though, truthfully, that was awhile ago.

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Haha RaiderTalk — never again! Thanks!

We’re considering that, but it’s complicated, stay tuned!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Thanks 33! Can’t wait to see you on MHR!

  • http://broncotalk.net Monty

Bwahaha! The site runs how I will run it. It will be different, but hopefully just as engaging.

    Thanks for the kind words!

  • Pete Baron

I’ll miss you Jon. It figuratively breaks my heart that SBN won’t allow you to be an admin over there. I’ll have to follow you at your casa.

  • NMBronc

Thank you to the writers for their coverage. Thank you for the live blogs during the games while I was in DC for the past two years. This place is my lifeline to the only team I am truly a fan of. The only team whose loss elicits a depression.

I have not commented significantly over the past 5+ years, but I am here daily. I completely understand why you have made this move, but for me it is unfortunate. I say this because the plurality of the reason I come back daily is that those who comment regularly in this community are true fans, knowledgeable, reasonable and respectful. I can get content anywhere, but I come back daily for the community. So,..

Thank you to the community! You people are awesome.

The writers will move to MHR and I will still follow their content, but if the BT community does not move, MHR will never be >= BT. Here’s hoping all of you move and we can sustain a small BT click within the blah blah noise from those currently at MHR.

  • Pete Baron

Brilliantly stated my man. I too already miss the small town feel, but it’s not so bad over there. There are regulars who sound off and make it feel a whole lost smaller than it really is. It’s nice over there. Can’t wait to see you post (or just to entertain you as you read).

  • TheTroglodyte

I’ll still follow your stuff my man

  • http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2582236 Elway4Life

Cool and gotcha! Yeah I probably will and thanks! Again congrats too! Monty!

  • Jim_Jebow

I agree with you Dan, this was a sell out and I can’t stand MHR. I loved the small community at BT and that can never be recreated at MHR. I have enjoyed my time here and reading all of your thoughts and wit over the years. I hope to see you guys somewhere besides MHR in the future.

  • Doom92

Well I’m not looking to be rude or nasty to you Monty, not at all. But to a degree it is just that. However it is clearly an advancement for you and I’d be the last to want any one to not advance. Its just one of those things. As for the more to like, thats just it, more is NOT better. It takes to much to swim through all the BS to be able to what you want or went there to see. I do NOT see it as a user friendly place at all. Its even worse than the Broncos official page. The awesomeness of logging on here and simply scrolling down to the story that your interested in was perfect.

Now if you were to make a big button or link (that is obvious) that says something like “hey all you BroncosTalk cry babies, your page is here” we could click on that and have what we want ;-), then we’d be talking. Its true you cant please everyone and in a change like this you just hope you can please a few.

I can’t stop visiting broncotalk its part of my everyday routine.. maybe hoping there will be a new post one day :/

  • Gary_in_SD

Got to agree with the small community thought. That’s definitely (to me) what made this site so appealing and why I kept visiting for years. Just enough of a following to keep things interesting, but not too many that my points get lost in the mix.

  • Pete Baron

Doom, I just sold my built (by my own hands) CJ7 and bought a built (not mostly from my own hands) ’99 TJ. We need to hang out when you get back. Seriously, email me. You’re too cool to not see around here anymore.

Having issues with Disqus, but trying to keep the party rolling over there.

  • Doom92

Oh yeah we have to wheel for sure… I have an ’82 Scrambler on 1 Tons, 40’s and some other crap. My Harley would go away way faster than my Jeep would. I’ve never owned anything as long as I’ve had my Jeep, its pretty cool.

  • Doom92

WTF… Everyone else is good enough for over there but not you? Well I dont know the story but I wasnt going there any way… I took a look at your page. Whats the scoopage for there. I didnt look for long. Can we post over there like we do here? Looked nice a fairly simple, if we can post I’m in…

  • http://twitter.com/jheath_DEN Jon

Doom, I write for B/R so SBNation won’t let me write for MHR because it is a competitor.

If you mean post as in comment, I set up Disqus so all comments are welcome!

  • Doom92

Yeah thats what I meant, posting in response to your articals there. Like we do here, just I assume your the only writer there.

  • Doom92

Trog you have to reply on his site dude… We can argue, I mean discuss things over there ;-)…

  • http://twitter.com/jheath_DEN Jon

Yeah, only me for now. Comment all you want! Ref and caveman have already gotten the party started.

LUCKY 100th COMMENT TO THIS FINAL POST ON THE BEST BRONCOS BLOG I’VE EVER KNOW! Viva la BT!!!
