Mike Remmers, T – Broncos Undrafted Rookie Report

Mike Remmers was a longtime starter for the Oregon State Beavers at right tackle before moving to left tackle in his senior season. A walk-on to start his career, Remmers was a finalist for the Burlsworth trophy, which is given annually to the best player in the country who began his career as a walk-on. Remmers finished his OSU career with 44 starts, good for sixth in school history.

The entire OSU team struggled in 2011, Remmers included. While he has the athleticism to be a fit at left tackle, he may simply be better suited at right. Watching film from 2010, I saw a very quick, athletic lineman able to hit multiple defenders with power. Watching film from 2011 (collective groan at the soundtrack), I was less impressed. He got pushed back in pass protection too often and looked lost at times in run blocking. His quarterback Sean Mannion was sacked 24 times.

Note: There are no in-depth scouting reports on Remmers that I could find, so these anecdotes are based on 10 minutes of film study. Hardly the thorough evaluation the player deserves.

Scouting Reports: DS, PFW, OSU, Broncos

Camp Competition: Ryan Clady, Orlando Franklin, Ryan Harris, Tony Hills, Chris Clark, Adam Grant

Camp Outlook: The Broncos value versatility, which Remmers brings with experience at both left and right tackle, and he has the off-field hard working qualities the Broncos value as a former walk-on. It’s an uphill battle, but with a solid camp he could overtake the likes of Harris or Hills in a backup role. The Broncos may only keep one backup tackle.

    20 on the bench is a red flag, footwork is key but strength is required as well.

    Yeah, Remmers’ battle is particularly uphill. The best thing going for him is that nobody else behind Clady and Franklin are all that solid.

    As a long time Beaver (and of course Bronco) fan, I have watch Remmers for awhile.  Last year he was a relatively solid player on a terrible O-line.  At one point we started 4 walk-ons on that line.  Without a run game we threw about 40-50 times per game later in the year.

    Interesting pick up…hope he sticks.  Good news is that the Beavers have placed a number of linemen in the NFL over the year – for such a small program.

    Ditto here, I’m an OSU season ticket holder for 13 years. Remmers is a good solid pickup. He’s not going to look Like Ryan Clady but he will give you a strong, solid consistency. He’ll be an O-lineman that you’ll never hear about. That’s what you want! Go Beavs! Go Broncos!
