Broncos tried to fix bad draft in 2009 with their 2012 draft | Denver Post
And with their 2012 draft, the Broncos attempted to make a final correction on their embarrassing draft of 2009. Where would the Broncos be today — with Peyton Manning at quarterback, Von Miller at pass-rush linebacker and John Elway as the front- office point man — had they not so magnificently bombed with their five (that’s right, five) draft picks in the first two rounds that year?

Elway is Broncos’ wizard in Draft, but he’s in front of the curtain | DP
The B-roncos. The Broncos’ draft must be given a grade of B-minus — today. Or perhaps an “E” for Erudite, Efficient, Eclectic, Esoteric and Elway for tomorrow. EFXceptional? Probably not. Failure? Definitely not.

A Final Look at Trading Activity During the Draft | Draft Metrics
Twenty-seven trades were completed during the NFL draft. My ears may be betraying me (hearing is the second thing to go when you get to be my age) but I thought I heard the talking heads say this was an unusually high number of trades. DRAFTMETRICS records show 22 trades last year, 32 in 2010, 26 in 2009 and 31 in 2008.

2012 NFL Draft Grades | SI.com
Denver Broncos: Help us, Peyton Manning, you’re our only hope. This doesn’t feel like a draft that will put Denver over the top. DT Derek Wolfe fills a need, but Jerel Worthy or Devon Still would have been safer picks, and the Brock Osweiler selection at 57 makes absolutely no sense. Grade: D

Broncos draftee Derek Wolfe may be a surprise to some analysts, but the 6-foot-5, 286-pound defensive tackle from Cincinnati said Friday night he was disappointed at not being selected in the first round a day earlier.

Grading the NFL draft: Denver Broncos double down on defense | Denver Post
It was a draft with a capital D, as in Defense. The Broncos used four of their seven picks on defense, including their first pick of the draft — Cincinnati defensive tackle Derek Wolfe — in the second round (36th overall). The Packers, Eagles and Patriots used their first 18 selections combined on defense.

Broncos’ Peyton Manning enjoys Coors Field as a Rockies fan | Denver Post
During a visit to Coors Field for the Rockies game Sunday, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had one big question: What was outfielder Michael Cuddyer doing occupying his locker?

You can’t tell Steven Johnson there are 253 players better than him. But that’s what NFL teams implied in bypassing him for all seven rounds of the draft.

The Denver Broncos, The Draft and The Pro Football Hall of Fame | MileHighReport
Well . . . the feeding frenzy of the 2012 NFL Draft is over. The Broncos have expended their draft picks and filled out the remaining open spots in the 90-man roster with a number of college players who were not chosen in the draft. How will these players fare? We do not yet know, yet that is the question we ask every year during draft time.

The draft was underwhelming, picking up Manning was a boom or bust move, the biggest off-season move may have been changing our Strength and Conditioning staff…with all the late season collapses and second half losses hopefully the new staff has the answer.

Agreed all around.  I do like combining John Fox and Jack Del Rio though.  It’s about time we become a defensive-minded team.

I disagree that Wolfe was brought in to replace Ayers who has played very well. Wolfe should stay at the DT position and occasionally move to DE depending on the situation. Why would you replace a very solid all around player though when the most pressing need is DT not DE?

In passing situations they could move Ayers and Wolfe inside with Doom and Miller outside, could prove to be lethal.

That would be an interesting experiment!
