Interactive Mock Draft – Pick One

Here we are, the fist selection of the 2012 Interactive Mock Draft. From day one I was interested to see how the trade twist would impact this experiment.

I am now learning that this mock is going about as twisted as they come. Be sure to check in everyday to see how ridiculous this thing is going to get.

Hey, I never said this thing was going to be realistic.

Here we go…

Our first GM to pick is DenverWonder.

With the first pick of the 2012 Interactive Mock Draft, the Miami Dolphins select…

1. Miami Dolphins Logo Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

A note from the Commissioner

The Miami Dolphins have traded with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Dolphins will receive:

  • The Colts 2012 1st round pick (3,000 pts)

The Colts will receive:

  • The Dolphins 2012 1st (1,400 pts)
  • The Dolphins 2012 2nd, and 3rd round picks (705 pts)
  • The Dolphins 2013 1st round pick (est. 1,000 pts)
  • The Dolphins 2014 1st round pick (est. 1,000 pts)
  • The Dolphins 2015 1st round pick  (est. 1,000 pts)

Many call him the best quarterback prospect, if not the best overall prospect to come out of college since the Denver Broncos’ own Peyton Manning. Many say they would give up 10 first round draft picks just to get him.

Many call our quarterback situation one of the worst in the league. I mean, David Garrard and Matt Moore, seriously? We do actually need a decent quarterback to be successful in this league.

After our unsuccessful courtships of Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn, and Alex Smith, we need a QB more than ever. It’s gotten so bad that fans have protested at team facilities. If only we could draft the next elite quarterback of the decade in Andrew Luck. Too bad Luck would be gone the second the Colts got on the clock.

A trade seemed very unlikely, so it looked like we would be stuck with QB Ryan Tannehill out of Texas A&M, who we would draft at Pick 8. A man can only dream of a trade though. They do say dreams come true, and today my, the Dolphins Organization, and our fan’s dreams came true.

Colts GM, Jim Jebow came to me and said the 1st overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft is available. After negotiations and approval from league commissioner, Mr. East, we struck a deal.

The deal was: the Dolphins Receive: Colts 2012 1st round pick; while the Colts Receive: Dolphins 2012 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick; Dolphins 2013 1st round pick; Dolphins 2014 1st round pick; and the Dolphins 2015 1st round pick.

Although it seems like a ton of picks just for one guy, you have to remember who we’re talking about. This is Andrew Luck, one of the most surefire draft picks of all time.

After this trade was complete, the rest was history. Andrew Luck is now the new face of the Miami Dolphins for the next decade and a half. Luck will bring us everything that Marino brought to our organization and even what Marino didn’t bring to us. The Vince Lombardi Trophy.

With Luck we can achieve our organization’s goal of winning a the Super Bowl once again; making this trade and pick a no-brainer.

    So Luck plays/learns behind Manning.  Would have been far less drama had the Colts just kept Manning and their pick.

    Lol this is funny but I think crazy because the colts let Manning go because they wanted Luck not to sell it off to the highest bidder also I dont think anybody would realistcally give up 4-1st round picks and 2 others to move up from 8 to 1 even the saints only gave up 2-1st rounders (8 total picks all in 1999 and a 1st and 3rd in 2000)

    I tried to trade up to get the Redskins #2 pick (I made a better offer than the one above) but apparently they already gave their pick to East.  Jumping the gun a bit, I wrote this up (thinking the trade was going to go through) and didn’t want it to go to waste:

    East, this is strictly off the record.  But this is how the trade went down:

    “If you want to make this franchise successful, you’re going to have to take some risks,” my wife, Jenn, told me the night before the draft.

    Heeding my wife’s advice, I called up Jim (Indianapolis’ G.M.) in
    the morning — the day of the draft.  We made him an offer for
    quarterback Andrew Luck that we thought was fair to both sides. Surprisingly to us, Jim turned us down and trade their pick to Miami.

    Obviously we were frustrated.  The draft was only a few hours away now and the Colts had just thrown a wrench in our plans.  As I walked through our living room around noon, my sons were playing NCAA 12 on the Xbox as Baylor University.  I instantly thought to myself before blurting out “Robert!”

    I knew we could make a deal with the Redskins because I had met Doom (Washington’s G.M.) at the NFL’s Scouting Combine and we had developed a great relationship.  Before making them an offer however, my wife called Doom’s wife to see if they would even be interested.

    Jannett (Doom’s wife) told Jenn that Mike (Washington’s Head Coach) had traded up for Robert without Doom’s approval.  Through the grapevine, I learned that Shanahan was so desperate for a franchise quarterback that he had told Doom he would do whatever it took to get one, even if it meant giving up more picks than Doom would consent to.

    So my wife — who helped us negotiate Vincent’s deal with his wife — and I called the Redskins about two hours before they were going to be on the clock.  We offered them a deal which would give Doom picks and Mike a franchise quarterback.  In return, we are getting a quarterback that we think, with the weapons we have put around him, can lead us to a Super Bowl victory.  It was a win-win situation for all sides, including the players traded.

    We are extremely excited about the upcoming season.  With Robert Griffin III, Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams, LeGarrette Blount and Luke Stocker coming back, we are very excited about the potential our offense has this season.  On the defensive side of the ball, things are just as exciting.  We have two great players in Geno Hayes and Da’Quan Bowers and we feel that our defense will continue to improve moving forward.
