This season has already seen Tom Brady‘s private quarterback coach Tom Martinez proclaim that he could fix Tim Tebow‘s throwing mechanics in two weeks. Tebow was pressed specifically about this offer by none other than Skip Bayless, and after typical Tebow polite deflection when being offered an all inclusive free trip by Bayless, Tebow has instead reacted two weeks later by meeting with not Brady’s coach Martinez, but Philip Rivers‘ former offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone.

Bruce Feldman of CBS has tweeted that Tebow is at UCLA this week after attending a movie premiere Monday evening amongst several charity engagements to work with Mazzone, the brand new Bruins offensive coordinator. Mazzone came dangerously close to having an Elway connection when he was hired in 2010 by Dennis Erickson to coach at Arizona State, where Jack Elway (John’s son) had just quit as a red shirted Freshman seven months earlier.

Mazzone’s biggest claim to fame remains coaching Rivers at North Carolina State to the ACC Player of the Year. One more interesting Mazzone tidbit: he is known for being an offensive spread guru. Mazzone typically works and worked with Tebow prior to the quarterback being drafted by Denver in 2010.

Somehow missed that interview with Tom Martinez and all its Skip Bayless snowball effect. Seems idiotic to insist you could fix Tebow’s lifetime of habits in two weeks when a team of people already tried (and claimed) to do that before the draft two years ago.

Why would someone want to spend time trying to fix Tebow’s motion? He’s going to get into a game and revert right back to his previous (current) motion. His foot work, ability to progress through his receivers, OK..that needs work. But if he’s going for throwing motion he has the wrong guy..has anyone seen Rivers throw? FUGLY!

I had a similar thought, but I don’t see why Tebow wouldn’t at least spend some time with Martinez this offseason. Not to fix anything necessarily, but just to spend time throwing with Brady and the man.

Agree completely on the progression issue.

isnt Martinez seriously ill?  like in the hospital or on dialysis? I swear i heard something on ESPN about that… google only turns up that he was given a month to live last summer, but i know he passed that threshold.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

He was, yes. In that first link within the post he talks a bit about it: “I went through a period about a month and a half ago where I was
given a week or two weeks to live. They changed the medications and I
have a pacemaker and it was put on or set incorrectly so all that stuff
was changed. … I’m quite a bit stronger, but I’m still hurting. I have
good days and I have horrible days. What I’m trying to do is look for a
kidney and a kidney transplant would basically, I’m not going to say
save my life, but it would change my life. And so Tom Brady has put, for
one, put my situation on his Facebook. … Tom Brady has 60 donors off of
his Facebook and we’re testing them right now. … We hope that’s what
the biggest problem is and that would change my life.”

he gets the ball where it needs to go though.

I couldn’t agree more Ian… Seems he just blew it off. He must not think he needs to get better but he does BIG TIME. You would think any one that “really” wants to get better would do whatever it takes and at least see what the dude has to offer. Buuuuut NOOOO not Mr walk on water!!!

LOL… Agree on Rivers! But he does get it done at times Way better than Jesus… I mean Tebow…lol.

haha that’s a crazy jump for someone like you to make bud. Almost sound like Kerry for a second. The guy is working out privately with other people so he obviously cares about improving or he would be sitting on his couch.

For all we know that’s who Elway or Fox TOLD him he should be working out with too.

Also, Martinez never said he WOULD workout with Tebow he simply said he could fix Tebow and he did so in a really arrogant stupid way. You cannot fix Teebs problems in two weeks. Ain’t going to happen.Cut the guy some slack man haha :)

LMAO… I was wondering who would bust me up for that tid bit of funnin’… I know and agree 100% with the second and third paragraphs there.

I’m personally not a hunnard percent sold that he is working so hard to improve my self buuuut for sure Those cats may have told him to go there, ya never know?!?

haha you are the man! I actually just read today that Tebow has been doing 2 a days since last week so at least there is some good news there.

I just hope he comes in to the season with either no improvement so we can move on or with HUGE improvement so we can move on. Ya know?Â
