Report: Brady Quinn getting “roughly half” first-team reps

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reports that, per a league source, quarterback Brady Quinn has been getting “roughly half” of the first-team reps at quarterback in practice this week.

It’s not known if the Broncos are planning to use Quinn instead of Tim Tebow as a change-of-pace quarterback or if they’re preparing for the possibility of pulling Tebow. It’s also possible this report stems from a source leaking misinformation meant to distract the Steelers, though Florio says his report comes from a “league” source, not a “team” one.

This notion has been floating around the Denver Post all week. I, like Rodney Harrison in Florio’s report, thought it was utterly ridiculous. Not so ridiculous anymore.

    If Quinn has shown us anything, it’s that he can look great in practice, and fold worse than Chris Simms in a real game. I’d think that they are giving Quinn reps in practice in the event that Tebow gets hurt more-so than Tebow getting benched. Tebow got us here, and it’s Tebow’s game to play. Simple as that.

    I agree BigPete. I call BS on this too. Its Friday. You mean to tell me if Tebow and Quinn were splitting reps since Tuesday the word is only getting out now? The media eats, drinks, and sleeps Tebow..especially during wild card week. Do I believe Quinn got 50% today? Sure. He needs to be ready to come in if Timmy goes down. Pittsburgh does have cheap shot artist Harrison afterall. We are at the end of the week, its time to squeeze in some reps for Quinn. Also, it makes no sense in that if Quinn is getting 50% of the reps I would assume those are in the old “Orton offense” because he isnt running this one. If this coaching staff is himhawing around and spending 50% of their time practicing an offense they abandoned 3 months ago we are in for a world of hurt.

    Maybe they have Quinn taking half the snaps to get someone used to receivers who either run the same route and end the play standing in each other’s jocks. Tebow has looked abysmal in the last three games, but our genius wide receivers haven’t done anything to help matters.

    I’ve NEVER felt this negative about a playoff berth, but man- we backed in so loudly we should’ve had a beeper going off. I try not to be negative, but if something doesn’t change this weekend, this team is back to where it was when it was 1-4.

    But I remain optimistic and ALWAYS open to the fact that anything is possible.

    what a load of BS, if they belive tebow gives them the best chans to win, they give him all the snaps. cuz he needs all of them the way he has played the last 3 weeks. they dont all of a sudden start expecting him to get hurt when we get in to the playoffs.

    If the reports are true, its either becouse tebow is hurt, and they want to rest him. or its becouse they are thinking he wont raise his level of play from last week. Either way, its not good.

    This is classic Florio.   He makes up some rumor (or in this case piggybacks on the DP’s rumor), attributes it to unnamed “league sources” or “team sources” or “sources close to the situation” and it turns out to be utter horseshit.

    Quinn himself just said that it’s BS and that the percentage of snaps haven’t changed. Looks like “Tebow got us here, and it’s Tebow’s game to play” isn’t BS after all. ;)

    This stuff is pure nonsense. I said much earlier this week when this rumor first surfaced, that it is ridiculous to even speak such a thing. Quinn only takes the field if Tebow is injured or if the game is out of hand early.  He may be taking a few reps for those reasons but other than that, these guys need to find something else to write about.  There has to be more to write about than this.

    I like how you blame the wide recievers for Tebow’s shortfalls as a quaterback. It does not help that he is a subpar quaterback and that the coaching staff had to dumb down their offense for him to be our starter.
