Tim Tebow

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow (15) is hit by San Diego Chargers inside linebacker Donald Butler (56) and San Diego Chargers cornerback Antoine Cason (20) in the second quarter during an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, in Denver. (AP Photo/Joe Mahoney)

The San Diego Chargers watched (some would say helplessly) as Tim Tebow whittled their 13-point halftime lead down to two points. Tebow ran one touchdown in from 12 yards. He hit Knowhon Moreno in the flat for another score in the fourth quarter. He completed two 20-plus yard passes with less than a minute to play.

The second-year quarterback rose from the ashes of league criticism — and the Denver Broncos bench — to execute a near-game winning comeback effort. But he and the Broncos fell just short as Tebow’s hail mary pass bounced off a number of Chargers whites and Broncos blue jerseys with no time left, and San Diego held on to win 29-25 in Week 5 action.

Barring injury, it marks the end of the Kyle Orton era in Denver, who was wholly ineffective in a 6 for 13, 34-yard, 1-int effort in the first half. Tebow will start from here on out.

We’ll have much more soon, but for now, talk about the game, and what this all means for the Broncos’ future.

Tebow did not have any long drives either.  His first 3 series produced 23 yards and 3 punts.  When he had to throw he wasn’t very good.  As Gannon Christiansen pointed out though, Orton refused to run.
Even though the defense gave up too many long drives they did keep the Broncos in the game.

Agreed. But let’s give a wee bit of credit to Orton for a classy move when he celebrated Tebow’s touchdown run, He clapped on the sidelines  and you have to know he know’s his time as the starter is over. That took some heart.

Orton was never “my guy.”  I’ve never liked Orton nor thought he was even any good.  What I’ve always said is that Orton was the best QB on this roster…and he still is.

I defended the guy because people were stupidly assigning him blame for these losses when he didn’t deserve it.  Even yesterday…nobody was open in the first half.  Nobody.  John would have gone 6-13 there.

How many real live game snaps do you need before you stop short hopping?  Didn’t he have real live game snaps in college where he was the greatest throwing QB evah?  Unconventional or not he is short hopping.  If he does not learn to make the throws he won’t be QB next year, period.

You notice how nobody says anything about bad throws or doing nothing with the a long field.

You’d rather go 1-15 than beat the chargers? That doesn’t sound like a bronco fan to me. I agree with you (dante) that the tebow mania is out of control and really not rational since he has only played in like 4 games. But a lot of that mania is magnified by how bad orton has been playing. If tebow sucks, the fans will be calling for someone else. Orton lost this job, tebow did not win it.

Plus, you have no idea if tebow will ever win a championship. A lot of less talented players have done so.. in addition Tebow will get better if played. No one has any idea how he or if he will improve.

“When Moreno caught that screen pass it was as if a torch had just been ignited on the seat of his pants because he has never ever ran like that before”

WHile it is rediclous to suggest that nobody was open the entire first half, I think you made the point for inserting Tebow better than anyone JDK.   Tebow has an ability to make things happen. We have seen KO for 3 years now in third and 6’s just stand there and throw the ball for 4 yards or throw an interception or just fall down. I don’t know what game Herc was watching yesterday but I saw KO throw behind receivers and miss open receivers all day.  When there was a an open field to run, he chose not to.  Its time we put someone (anyone) back there that might at least put a little extra effort into getting a first down.
As for your points on Tebow completion ratio, can you maybe consider the fact that he hasn’t worked with the first team (if at all) in months AND he hasn’t been a starting QB in the NFL for six years like KO.  Not all the team’s problems are KO’s.  I haven’t even been calling for Tebow to be a starter but it is clear to me and anyone else that has an umbiased opinion that this team needs some leadership at the QB position.  IF there is better talent out there then Elway and company need to go find it.  If they have no confidence in TEbow, then fine, go get a QB, but KO has to go.  His record speaks for itself.

I watched the same game you did.   Orton did not “miss open receivers all day.”

christ, even gannon went out of his way to point out how nobody was getting open.

  • Robinsonc

It’s about time!!!! Let the games begin! Are you ready for some Tebow?

  • Dante Pakistan

Yes I would rather go 1-15 than win a meaningless game against the Chargers because in the scheme of things going 1-15 and getting the next great QB will mean tons of wins against the Chargers in the future and some playoff wins as well. This league is more QB driven than ever and SD has an elite one, no matter how big of a douche he is, his record against us speaks for its self. I want the beat the Chargers every game for the next ten years, not just once this season.

Tebow throws the ball in the dirt with regularity because the 2nd team receivers are six inches tall?  Is that really your excuse?

You mean gannon christiansen?  The only thing missing was Jr. Seau chasing after Elway.

  • Barrel Woman’s Sister

Fox would just bench Luck for the first couple of years, saying “he’s not ready for the NFL”, and sign Orton to a new multi-year contract…

    Ouch!

I would compare Moreno to Gerald Willhite but that wouldn’t be fair to Gerald Willhite.

  • Wadezombie

    he will learn by playing

  • Wadezombie

couldn’t have said it better myself, but to give orton credit, he has learned to throw interceptions more consistantly

  • Wadezombie

    you going fishing?

  • Wadezombie

Then support the bronco (tebow) and quit being angry and go away

  • Wadezombie

ugly winning is winning, lets start winning!!!!! instead of ugly loosing

  • Wadezombie

he is the most elway like quarterback the broncos have had.

  • Anonymous

And you’re certainly free to be a Tebow fan where ever he goes.

  • Anonymous

Is this your pathetic attempt at yet another lame excuse for Tebow?

  • Anonymous

Except for the fact that he cannot throw.  Are all Tebow fans this delusional?

  • Anonymous

Haven’t you figured it out yet?  If you’re not a worshiper of all that is Tebow you’re not a Te-Bronco fan.  The first step is to scour the boards so that you can memorize all of the excuses.

I forgot to add that if you don’t worship all that is Tebow you’re a left-wing troll hater.

Just trying to get his trade value up so they can bring in some more guys to surround Tebow with.
