Some Denver Broncos fans feel their calls for Tim Tebow haven’t been heard. So they’ll make them seen, instead.

A thread on the team’s official forums indicates that a group of Broncos fans are planning on purchasing a pair of billboards in the Denver downtown area. The message? “Bench Orton, play Tebow.”

They’re not ponying up the dough yet, though — they’re willing to wait one more week for Kyle Orton to perform. If Orton doesn’t perform well against the Cincinnati Bengals this week, he and the rest of the Broncos will have to look up at Tim Tebow’s face on their commute. From the thread (preemptive sic) —

Me and 7 of my buddies who are all die hard broncos fans have finally raised enough money for 2 downtown denver billboards to read: Bench orton play Tebow w/ a few different on the field photos. We are waiting to see how orton does this week vs the bungals. No we are not timmy fanatics we are true broncos fans for years and years and we are sick of seeing all the excuses for orton. So hopefully by week 3 the billboards will be up!

(UPDATE: The Denver Post interviewed the fans, who say the billboards will cost $10,000. Yowza.)

It’s Week Two, and fans are already resorting to this. Kyle Orton doesn’t need more reasons to play better. Just do it, Kyle.

What are all your thoughts?

I was in discussion on the vic and gary room today. it was kinda along these lines. I said that I didn’t care if we had a reincarnation of Ryan Leaf, I would still say that we should bench Orton and throw Leaf in… Why? Because I know 100% what Orton can and can’t do. I know for a fact he will be good between the 20’s in the first 3 quarters. I know for a fact that in the last 2 minutes before halftime, he will make a drive killing mistake (INT, FUM, 3rd down sack of himself cause he saw a LB growling at him from beyond the line). I know for a fact that in the 4th quarter, unless we have a double digit lead, he will crumble and repeatedly do one of his before halftime mistakes. We know this. These aren’t refutable. These are facts that hold the same weight and certainty as “the sun will rise”…..
What do we have in Tebow, Quinn, Webber, fictitious Ryan Leaf? I DON’T KNOW… and guess what? YOU DON’T KNOW EITHER!!! Say all you want about how Tebow can’t make it, isn’t talented enough, isn’t smart enough, can’t throw, can’t read defenses, can’t tie his shoes. But the FACT of the matter is that you DO NOT KNOW THAT TO BE FACT! The only way we will ever know if this franchise is in a forward moving direction is if we replace the bad things we know for certain are bad (Orton being 1 of them) and replace them with people who have upside and haven’t even begun to peak (Tebow).

Trent Dilfer says, and I agree with him, that QB’s are paid for thier play in third down, their red zone execution and the last 2 minutes before the halfs.   Orton sucks at all of those.

Not saying Tebow would do better as you have to ask yourself why he’s not playing when the guy that drafted him in the first round wouldn’t play him and the guy that replaced him won’t play him.  My  stance is Orton is cleary on the answer and you might as well find out what you have.

So Broncos should bench Lloyd and start Decker in his place?

  • Redna

Why do so many Broncos fans feel they need to be the ones evaluating players? Are you all football scouts now that you play pretend, i mean “fantasy” football? That is why there are coaches and practices.

Decker is pretty much a starter right now. Lloyd had almost 90 yards, which puts him at 1440 yards for the season. Decker had almost 55 yards which puts him at 880 for the year. You are reaching for straws here man.
Decker IS the starter for kick returns though, and if there was any doubt, last game removed them. Remember, being a KR is different than being a WR (even though Decker is a really good WR).

But he was a rookie so obviously he was playing his worst so it all evens out or something!

“Tebow, playing at his worst (he’s a rookie, so everything is his worst) managed an 82 QB rating.”

That is just plain dumb.  Eddie Royal’s best season was his rookie year.  Obviously he was playing his worst because he was a rookie.

Not as dumb as claiming that playing WR as a rookie is as hard as QB as a rookie ;)
