Denver Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox‘s second year in the NFL is full of uncertainty.

Not only is the ongoing lockout looming over Cox’s head, but the 2010 fifth round draft pick of the Broncos is in a lot of legal hot water. On Monday, Cox pleaded not guilty to two sexual assault charges stemming from an undisclosed incident that occurred in September of last year.

Cox’s trial was set for October 28th, reports the Denver Post. If there is an NFL season, Cox’s trial would fall on the Monday immediately following the Broncos’ Week 6 bye Sunday.

“I just want the season to start back up. It’s tough,” Cox said after the hearing. “It’s something that stays over your head. You stay positive, just control what I can control.”

These are extremely serious charges, so we won’t comment on what Cox or the Broncos should or shouldn’t do as long as the details of the case remain sealed. Innocent until proven guilty… hopefully these ongoing events won’t be too big a distraction for Cox or the Broncos.

For whatever reason its not letting me edit that non-comment so ill just post below.

The sad history of these incidents shows that it is very hard for the prosecutors to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.  ESPN is listing the charges against him as “sexual assault while the victim was physically helpless and one count of sexual assault while the victim was incapable of determining the nature of the conduct.”  This seems suggest that alcohol was involved in the incident.  If that is true, this could explain why Cox's team is pleading not guilty.  Witness testimony about events that happened under the influence of alcohol lends itself to a shrewd cross-examination.  Just ask the victim of Ben Rothlisberger's alleged misconduct.  The District Attorney was not convinced that the witness testimony would withstand the scrutiny of highly paid litigators.

Obviously, I have no idea of the details involved in the case and I could be WAY off base.  Regardless, I'm sure that as details are made available, it will make it easier to judge whether Cox deserves to return to the team should he be found innocent.

If he is found innocent were looking at a good 4-6 game suspension. I am one of the few who i know who actually liked cox. I thought he just needed a defensive pass rush to help him out. Lets face it. Even champ looked like a fool sometimes with the qb having 5 to 6 seconds to throw the damn ball

4-6 games? lets hope he is found guilty.

Um lets not forget ben's last person that accused him of this. messed up and told her friend after the incident she hoped she had a little ben growing in her. It didnt go to court because her friend she worked with was on the defense side. Per her the “victim” said going to ben's room she was hoping to get with him, and afterwards bragged to her girlfriend about what went on. and per a quote she hoped to have a little ben growing in her.

Yeah really.  Have you seen that girl?  It was probably worth it for him even if he goes to jail.

I think it's way too easy for us to judge either way. On one hand, she could be somebody whom was looking to take advantage of a football player in the NFL player and is looking for something. However, I'm not going to say that is it either. I think, the likelihood of a case like this being called one way or another, for reasons other than he was innocent or guilty, is not all that low.
