Broncos Mini Camp Football

Good news out of Denver this morning, as Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Denver Broncos veteran safety Brian Dawkins organized the first team workout.

Dawkins sent out a mass text/e-mail to his teammates a few days ago inviting players who were in the Denver area to attend conditioning workouts Tuesday and Thursday. Despite the short notice, 15 players reported to the first session Tuesday.  Quarterback Kyle Orton showed up early to throw passes to receiver Eric Decker.

Other projected starters who attended were center J.D. Walton, left guard Zane Beadles, defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson, middle linebacker Joe Mays and defensive end Robert Ayers.

Not present were Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn, established workout warriors and Orton’s competition at quarterback. Von Miller and the rest of the new batch of Broncos rookies were absent, in part because Dawkins still is gathering contact information for the new guys. As word spreads, the player turnout promises to increase.

This is a public relations nightmare!

There are currently 78 players listed on the Broncos' roster. When only
19% of them are involved in something, it isn't highly motivational. We
had a dismal year in 2010, but our winning record was 25%.

What is being missed in the doldrums of the off-season, and is being punctuated
by the under-whelming nature of the narcissism and greed of the current labor
stalemate, is the waning interest of the fans.

You can see it on this Website, you can hear it at the water cooler and down at
the pub. The typical NFL fan, the one that collectively took the league
to unprecedented heights in ratings and profits last season, is quickly
running low on patience and understanding, and are ratcheting up their levels
    of anger.

The apathy the owners and players are showing for the fans is quickly becoming
apparent to all that care to see. And even those numbers are
dwindling. As reporters, the BT staff and the Media in general, should
make a trip into the offices of the NFL team's PR departments and get a real
sense of how miserable their lives are right now.

Squirming is about all the action they are getting!

The complacency of the organizations and their typical athletes for the
well-being of their fans is exceeded only by their mammoth egos and their
undying belief that, no matter what, the fans will line up at the turnstiles
with their wallets at the ready, whenever the vultures are finished lapping up
the last drop of their financial blood.

What makes ME angry is…they're probably right.

We have no representative in all of this. We are merely “the
Ox” that is being gored. Right about now, I'm rating the players and
owners right up there with the Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill.
Or should I say: right DOWN there!

(I know, I know. SHUT UP! I just needed to vent. What else is there to do?)

  • Dbh

I quit watching the nba and baseball over issues that are similar to this mess. Oh boy am I getting sick of the greed.

    Dave the fan

  • Cschuler

Totally agree, and as amped as I have been watching (alot of) film on the new rookie class I just get exceedingly upset that these folks are arguing over the money we are shelling out and honestly could care less about the fans right now. We need to start a movement to boycott one game (not the Monday night Raider game) just to say we are here and we are not without a voice!

  • TD30isMVP

Wow, Joe Mays looks like a freaking beast.

  • http://thingsatrexdoes.tumblr.com Mike Birtwistle

He's certainly been hitting the 'protein shakes'

  • Nisse

orton is sure blowing away the competition at QB.

where is tebow?!?!?! he is playing golf!!!! OMG OMG OMG

orton is my messiah, tebow sucks!

  • TD30isMVP

Wow…seriously? I mentioned the unwarranted hate for Orton in another post but the same goes for Tebow, he didn't choose who drafted him or how high, he works hard and was very successful in college. The games he did play (for Denver) the team rallied around him and he was not too bad for a rookie. Tebow did not create the hype or the rabid Tebow fans, he played football games and worked hard to be a Pro. The hate spewed about a young rookie with excellent work habits and squeaky clean character baffles the mind, Bronco fans used to root for players like that, maybe if he slips on a McDonald's bag he will be better liked. BTW..while Orton was out of town Tebow was here working out with Von Miller and doing charity work with Lynch. Let them compete to see who hands the ball off in Fox's offense. I like Orton he had a good year and is very steady, Tebow is exciting to watch so it should be a good year.

i have noticed an interesting trend, at least among the people i have been talking to lately. i'm in sales and in a pretty football crazy state, so i talk a lot of sports.

as this things drag out, the people i talk to are blaming the players more and more- using terms like 'greedy' and 'demanding'. sure they sympathize with the extended retirement healthcare issue and maybe some other minor points- but the majority of sentiment is with the owners at this point. i think that the ire is directed at the player 'establishment' moreso than than the actual players personally- by this i mean agents and union/trade association.

again this is my sample, yours may be different, but i thought it was interesting.

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Yeah and Dawkins shoulders — Dang!

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

I think Nissa was being sarcastic…

  • TD30isMVP

No, Nissa's undying love for all things anti-Tebow are well documented.

  • TD30isMVP

I was impressed with Dawk until I saw Mays…wow, now if we can get him

in position and wrapping up to tackle.

  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Oh, well that would have been a pretty funny comment… oh well lol.

  • Nisse

i was being sarcastic.and my undying love for all things anti-tebow is just a reaction to the tebow mania, cant help it.orton isnt getting much love these days, and i feel someone gotta defend the guy in the comment sections. (and i really respect u for trying to defend the guy)on the topic of orton vs tebow, i root for orton(he is smart, tough and looks like the singer in foo fighters), but hope tebow will become a great QB.

for example, when saying its a fact that tebows accuracy is bad, i often point out that this can be fixed.

with that said, i was trying to provoke the tebow fanboys, not the people who bring something to the conversation worth thinking about.

  • Nisse

my text got screwed up, missing some dots and commas :/

  • TD30ismvp

    foo fighters….lol
Orton was put into a mess with the trade for Cutler he never stood a chance short of a Superbowl appearance.

  • CJ

I was liking Nate Irving as starter, but Joe Mays looks like a freak of nature right now. Lets just hope for no steroids testing when litigation is over.

  • CJ
  • http://Facebook.com/BroncosZone Jon

Dude, just because someone is jacked it does not mean they are taking steroids. With the right program and dedication (and good genes don't hurt) anyone can get ripped.

I took no supplements (not even protien shakes or bars!) and I went from benching 10 pounds less than I weighed as a junior in high school to 25 pounds more than I did as a senior and I gained weight! I've been blessed and I worked hard and stuck to the program, and I'm just talking about high school football! In the NFL, it's the best programs and the best trainers…

If you do the right workouts and push yourself as far as you can go — and have teammates there pusing you even farther — you can do great things, like getting jacked.

  • TheTroglodyte

haha sorry Jon but your example doesn't come close to what the guys in the NFL do. You were a growing teenager with nearly double the amount of testosterone a 23 year old has and gains over the first 1 – 3 years of weight lifting are always the easiest.

When I was a personal trainer (I worked with college football athletes in California) I was 6'1 225 pounds and about 7% body fat. I was all natural and could bench about 330. I hadn't made any significant gains for about a year even though I worked out twice a day, took ridiculous amounts of protien, etc… The only way for me to continue to see big increases would have been to eat more which would have meant fat gain.

I ended up hurting a tendon in my elbow though and was given a steroid called Deca Durabolin by the doctor to help it heal. It was an extremely minute dosage and I only got it for 2 months. Over the next three months I shot up to 240 pounds without an ounce of fat gain and was benching about 375.

People who do not take steroids or are not around those who take them, have absolutely NO idea how powerful they are nor do they understand how easy it is to pass drug tests.

In order to get busted you have to be a complete dolt or be taking ridiculous amounts of them.
Mays is on crazy amounts of roids because that body is not naturally attainable with Hercules genetics but so is 95% of everyone else in the NFL.

Still can get over the pick in the 2nd round. Why take a OT when Bowers,Austin, and Paea are on the board? Can someone explain this pick. Does anyone else agree with me? Austin is a beast. Bowers at DE could help. You can never have enough DE in a 4-3. When you say 4-3 I think NY Giants. They just keep drafting DE. I know we will have nightmares when Austin and Bowers are killing it and we arestuck with a OT on the bench.

  • Hrlaxer Buckley

I thought the same 12508. but then i relized we have dumervil, robert ayers, and now von miller. And obviously we werent interested in Paea. We are looking to get someone in the FA otherwise possibly a trade with orton.

  • 12508

Ayers has been a bust. We still need more DE help. Austin would have been my pick. He is a monster. I would have taken Bowers too. I dont expect much from Ayers. O-Line is the last position I would have drafted. We are ok at O-Line. Problem last year at O-Line was Josh and all his nonsense. Also have questions with the TE picks. Why pick 2 if you like the 1st one? You know how many picks we have wasted on TE in the last 10 years? Maybe these two are really good on special teams? I dont get it.
