Denver Broncos running back coach Eric Studesville, who joined the Broncos’ staff this offseason, will take over as interim head coach for the remaining four games of the season following the firing of Josh McDaniels Monday, the Broncos announced.

Studesville has been an assistant coach in the NFL for 14 seasons. Before joining the Broncos in 2010, Studesville spent the previous four seasons as running backs coach for the Buffalo Bills.

He has no head coach or coordinator experience.

All other assistant coaches, including quarterbacks coach Ben McDaniels, will retain their current positions on staff, the Broncos said.

    Uhm… Interesting.

Very interesting….Would have though Wink or McCoy for the interim job. My guess is McCoy will call the plays for the offense.

no one is safe, you dont produce you are gone this is todays environment

Two things of note here. The video taping incident embarrassed this franchise beyond repair. The last home game against the Rams? There were tens of thousands of empty seats in the stands by the fourth quarter. Mr. Bowlen obviously felt that he had enough.

Obviously Studesville is a temporary fix and is not coaching for a head coach position with the Broncos next season. I don't think Bowlen is impressed with Wink as a D coordinator and that's why he wasn't given the opportunity.

I cannot imagine that Cowher is interested in coming to Denver. However, of the remaining candidates, Gruden would be my choice. He has a football mind and really understands the X's and O's of the game. I also think that his time in the booth has given him more time to study other coaches and how they approach the game.

Hopefull he's been intructed to lose the remaining four games, I want a good pick.

I think the train has officially left he station. Bowlen is out of his flipping mind. But, it is a temp thing and McD is now gone. Hopefully, before Pat goes completely off the deep end they will hire a solid coach and get the right person in here for player personnel decisions, the right GM.

Let's get Gruden!! He can give Tebow the edge and get him on the right track.

Is Studesville black? First black Broncos HC if so.

Good Luck Eric! I'm rooting for you and will watch every Bronco game that I can. Joyce from your UWW days.

this is a good move for us to lose the rest of our games. while i want us to win i really hope we lose the rest of our games. if we can finish 3-13 and teams like Buffalo, Carolina and Cincy hopefully reel off a couple wins, we can get the number one pick and select Andrew Luck.

  • KERRY=0 FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE!

From the guy that was complaining that McD picked all offense and neglected the defense in his drafts! Are you freaking kidding me! We aren’t selecting Luck with the first pick (if we get it). We need help on D!!!! My doubts about your football knowledge have just increased 100 times more….Keep to what you know…COMPLAINING!

dude we are nowhere near contending now and we are even further away with having no franchise QB to build the team around. 3 bum QB's dont equal one good QB. we hire a defensive minded coach and draft a franchise QB and we are on the right path. look at Mike Smith, Steve Spagnuolo and Rex Ryan. all three defensive minded guys and all 3 have their teams in playoff contention. Smith is 10-2 this year, Spags in 6-6 and Ryan 9-2 and what do all of them have in common?? highly drafted and talented QB's along with improved defenses. Matt Ryan drafted 3rd overall, Bradford 1st overall and Sanchez 5th overall. i know what im talking about. having bum QB's with a high defensive pick does NOTHING to improve our longterm future. its time to get a franchise QB because Orton, Quinn and Tebow are not the answer. a good defensive coach can improve the defense along with developing a young QB for the future. DUH!! its happening all over the NFL. pay attention jagoff.

Kerry I think your wrong to count out Tebow. You haven't seen him play other than pre-season. He is a proven leader and the most prolific qb in college history; even more so than the qb's you mentioned above. I see your point, however how many pro qb's have you evaluated to know who is good and who isn't. I think the Broncos have to start him and when they do he will prove why he was picked so high.

what happens next for the denver broncos

  • mikebirty

    What! Its not Ben McDaniels?????

I dont want Gruden. Another know it all who wants to play around with the QB'S. Get someone in here that knows how to build a complete football team. Who ever comes in should give Romo a call and take him up on the offer he made as conditioning coach. Look around the league. Teams who suck get pushed around. Teams that are good do the pushing. Brian Xanders has to go!!!!!

Yup! We did the same high school; he was a couple of grades ahead of me. Nice guy.
