A must-read from ESPN’s AFC West blog — Josh McDaniels asked the franchise’s all-time greatest player, John Elway, to address his beleaguered players during practice this week. Broncos officials believed it to be the first time the Hall of Famer had spoken in such a capacity since retiring in 1999.

“This is a Hall of Fame player, a two-time Super Bowl champion, this is the biggest name in team history,” Denver safety Renaldo Hill said. “I wanted to hear every word this man said.”

The move worked, as evidenced by the team’s on-field response, along with many players citing Elway’s words in their post-game interview.

“John Elway came out and talked to us and said, ‘Don’t be relieved with a win and don’t be satisfied with a win, just go out and take the win,’” Kyle Orton said. “I think everybody took that mindset into the game.”

Shrewd move, McDaniels.

I have been stewing about this the entire season. When is Kyle Orton going to get the respect he is due? Today's game is only the latest exhibit. The guy is a producer, plain and simple. Statistically he is a top 10 QB for a reason; he EARNED it. He is smart and works hard. Enough with waiting for the second coming of Elway. What do you say we move on? Orton is the best QB Denver has had since Elway . . . even better than Plummer (who I liked) and Cutler. He deserves a better team . . . and sometimes I think better fans. Embrace the present. I hope to see Orton at the helm for the next 10 years. It would bring continuity at least (something the Broncos have been missing for a decade). And that is all I have to say about that.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I agree that Orton is not getting the respect that should I really think that he's a good QB that knows how to manage a game. And Elway he is the greatest QB of all time.

If Elway can come down to facility one day, and have one talk with this team and say the type of quotes that are in this article, and have it produce the type of wins that we saw on sunday against teams as talented and KC is this year, then why can't he become the coach or at least an offensive coordinator? What he said about taking a win is classic and really, directly translates to how he played, especially during the seasons of the 2 super bowl wins. the whole '97 '98 teams played like that. IT'S A SHAME ELWAY WON'T COACH!
