Broncos 14, Raiders 59. The Broncos gifted Oakland 21 points in the first 6 minutes of the game, but the Raiders still outplayed them the rest of the way 38-14. How does this loss rank all-time for you?

Personally, as someone born in 1984, I was too young to feel the sting of the blowout Super Bowl losses in the 1980’s (although I vividly remember hating the 49ers — who beat Denver in 89 — for weeks). For me, the 1996-1997 playoff loss in the Wild Card round to the second year expansion Jacksonville Jaguars 27-30 still ranks as the worst-feeling loss of all-time, and probably always will.

Another devastating loss was the 2006 season finale vs. San Francisco. Win-and-you’re-in scenario, at home, heavily favored, and the Broncos dropped the ball.

But at least the Broncos showed up for those games. At least they put up a fight.

They didn’t today. In that way, this loss was worse.

Today’s loss is as raw as the 2008 finale — Mike Shanahan‘s last game — where the Broncos lost in San Diego with the division title on the line. They didn’t put up a fight then, and they didn’t put up a fight tonight. Neither opponent (the Chargers were 7-8) was really very good.

My take? This is the second worst loss in Denver Broncos franchise history, behind only that 2008 finale. From top to bottom, Josh McDaniels to Cassius Vaughn, the Broncos were horribly under-prepared and out-executed today. They should be embarrassed.

As a fan, I’m embarrassed.

Which game is worst all-time for you?

Which Broncos loss is worst all-time?

The Jacksonville loss was absolutely the most painful and heartbreaking. This one the most embarrassing, and infuriating. Bowlen should have taken away all Shannahan's hats except “coach”, then given him one more year. Too late now, but not too early to correct the McD mistake. Mr. Bowlen please, do the right thing for the team and fans and dump McDaniels.

The mistake Bowlen made was not letting Shanny go, it was hiring McDaniels. Shanny would just have had us somewhere between 6 and 9 wins every year for the next number of years. Competitiive, but not really competitive. MCdickhead has messed this whole thing up, the injuries didnt help…nothing u can do about that. but its the dickhead roster and coaching moves he made. I dont even wana start to go into detail, but il list a few!

    – A top 10 draft pick that turned into Gronkowski

    – Letting Mike Nolan go

    – Trading Hillis for a QB that doesn't be active on gameday

    – Trading away Tony Scheffler for some reason

    – Only getting a draft pick that turned into an average LB and a QB with no balls or grit, for Cutler

Bottom line, and I think I speak for most of our fans.

McDaniels has to go. End of story

Someone mentioned that something was off with the team. The players were lethargic and the Raiders definitely seemed to know what we were going to do before we did it. The offensive line decided not to play today leaving Orton no time to throw. The running game was a joke as it was last year. I believe that the players that McDaniels seems to get rid of are the ones that have the nerve to criticize him. Last year he barely allowed Hillis to play a few plays once in awhile yet this guy had the stuff so because he complained that he wasn't getting enough play time, McDaniels got rid of him. It seems that if you want to play for the Bronco's now you have to be silent and unmotivated. Motivation is the key in my opinion. Any job a person works in, if they don't perform they are let go. It should be the same in the NFL. Once they have their positions they no longer seem to play with the same enthusiasm. There are players who have the heart to play. You see it every day but unfortunately mostly on other teams. Guys who are playing because they love the game and give their all each week. Has McDaniels taken the heart out of these players? If so then the loss of today will not fire them up to do better next week. They have to fight each week to improve and want to win. So what if they are embarassed enough to play harder next week, what will give them the incentive to win the following week? I was hoping that McDaniels would turn the team around but it seems we are getting worse instead of better. I felt like Shanahan was a good coach but he wasn't very effective towards the end because he was burned out. I think he needed to have the time off and I suspect that he will help Washington to a good season, but I think his time here is over and we need to get on with what we have. If we can't get rid of McDaniels then we have to hope that he'll be gone next year. If his contract is for 3 years hopefully there is an out for Bowlen if he doesn't perform. Give Tebow a chance, Orton while not a bad quarterback seems to always go to one receiver. With more than one to throw to he needs to mix it up and the receivers need to find a way to get free of their shadows so they can catch the ball and Orton needs to get rid of the ball a whole lot faster. We can blame the coach but these players are professionals and they are paid accordingly and theirs no excuse for their performance today.

This loss won't change me from watching the Denver Broncos each Sunday. Being a Broncos fan is a PRIVILEGE not a RIGHT!!!! NO BANDWANGON FAN HERE!!!!!!!

  • areferee

The Post writers are just like the rest of the media, they need access to the locker room to keep their jobs. Most of them sip on the same kool-aid they want US to drink.

Being loyal to the Broncos and being a fan REQUIRES that we speak out in the better interest of our team. We don't even need to agree.

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

(Sorry, I mean Broncotism, we've had enough New England Patriotism!)

You have got to be kidding me, people actually think yesterday's loss was worse than the Jacksonville debacle that ended the 1996 season for the best team in NFL. We have another game next week, the Jacksonville game ended the season.

100% agree with this one, we loss to San Diego in 2007 41-3 at home(and it felt about as bad as this, probably worse since we didn't score a TD) yet we beat the Steelers two weeks later after the bye week. The Jacksonville game we had to wait 8 months to see the next victory.

I guess you consider yourself a prophet!

  • DenverJohn

We needed the change, McDaniels was/is not the answer.

  • Bbbunch

players don't get over those losses like that. there season is done and if I would have went to that game yesterday I would demand my money back. see ya Mcdummy cause you are outta here. when you aren't expected to get to the playoffs you only have to win a couple games and that yesterday was one of them

  • Bbbunch

different coach dude. not happening this time

  • broncobobbiesbullies

Here is the bottom line. McDaniels need to be fired today. That was a team that did not care That was team that was not coached. rMcDaniels did his job ten he should have pulled the entire first string and told them to go to the locker room tod them to get out of thier uniforms and get the hell out. Instead he chose to just stand on the side lines not caring about the fans

  • Debtbefree

    Well John that just stinks

  • Vince_marine

    AMEN BROTHER!!!!

  • michael rhone

i agree totally . pat bowen has made a mistake in hiring josh mcdaniels.he needs to be fired asap. if you are going to fire mike s.atleast replace him with a proven head coach.the sooner pat bowen lets this arrogant sob mcdanniels go the better off bronco nation will be

I have never been embarrased to be a broncos fan but yesterday I was. It was so emberassing losing a game to the raiders at home. I never turned off the TV or changed the channel but instead i waited for something to cheer for and nothing came. It was terrible and it proved many things about this team. First of all it proved that all we have is our reputation, people still see us and think Elway and thats why we get respect. Second is i fear McDaniels is this years version of Jim Zorn.. And last i fear it proves we are in rebuilding mode and winning big time games wont be happenin soon… I hope im wrong and i will root for my brincos always..WE Have to win games we are supposed to have!!!!

  • Noeluscali

    Broncos sorry ha

Game over only 21 down not half way through the FIRST QUARTER??? There was far more than enough time to make a game out of it. Sounds like you quit as fast as McDaniels did! The truth is McDaniels was COMPLETELY unprepared and therefore so was his team, to play their arch rival and division foe. Outcoached by Curly from the 3 Stooges no less! Cable has never been confused for a real NFL coach before! But McDaniels was a deer in the NFL headlights Sunday and he had no clue whatsoever as to what to do. He may be something someday, be he is something else today!

Cutler was a Pro Bowl player when coached properly.
