The wait is over, but as we reported Saturday, last season’s sack leader Elvis Dumervil has officially signed his first and third round tender of $3.168 million. Making him officially the last member of the Denver Broncos unrestricted free agents to sign (hey, the tender offer was good enough for Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler).

This comes after the Broncos sent a second letter threatening to reduce the Broncos offer to $630,000.

Look for this signing to be merely a starting point for an eventual extension of Dumervil’s contract. Doom and his agent are pacing to make sure that the sack master is amongst the top five highest paid pass rushers in the NFL.

Now on to the rest of the unsigned players currently working out in Dove Valley like Demaryius Thomas, Tim Tebow and projected starters J.D. Walton and Zane Beadles.

now the countdown to him being traded begins…………..

Right on track just like McD said…All that drama for nothing. He will sign to a fair contract…Good job Xanders.

  • Awesome, Austin

Dumb thing is you cannot build your defense around a pass rushing linebacker. It starts with the line. So making Doom top 5 paid pass rusher and having not enough cash for the most important positions (linemen) on the D then your screwed, plus Doom is a great pass rusher but not a great all around backer.

    Logan Mankins is available.

No way to both. Doom will get his contract on the very last possible day to draw out the drama as long as possible. Mankins will be too expensive to sign at this point, he's looking for a big payday and we still need to sign several of our 2010 picks, and this is still not factoring in Kuper's new deal.

I hear you but the DL is much MUCH better this year. Jamal Williams' 2009 was a wash due to injury so I'd like to think we have a solid 2-yrs for him. All I've read about Bannan is that this was a quality signing, not a steal, but a definite upgrade. Don't think Green will contribute too much but all he has to do is occupy OL to free up whose ever lining up next to him at OLB. Doom will have his 10+ with all this cattle at DL so whose ever on the other side will have some definite shots at making a name for themselves and at the QB.

I was joking with Kerry. Though, Mankins is a guy you find money for… Unless it's your mentor who is refusing to pay him.

  • NMBronc

I would tend to agree, unless his cover skills are improving. The DL is set for now, but I would personally spend the money on a NT, because Williams is a stop gap. Green will be replaced by M. Thomas. Hate to lose Doom, but Top 5 money…how about Top 10.

Do you think Dumervil brings in a lot of tickets sales for the broncos and that's why they gave him tender.

No way he gets top 5, that's a little crazy. Top 10, I think he'd sign for that. Unfortunately we cannot afford to lose him. I've said it before, its basic business, you overbid on what you really want in order to hit the numbers you desire. He can't really think he's worth top 5 money after one great year, can he? Maybe he's thinking, we'll ask for top 5 and be happy with top 10 $$$. HOPE SO.

Risk/reward- Dumervil's sacks came as a product of a good system or skill? I think that may be what the hold-up is. I know that he has averaged around ten plus sacks over the course of his NFL career, but a quick stat from last season-

    Broncos sack leaders in order:
    Dumervil
    Vonnie Holiday
    Darrel Reid
    Andra Davis

The Broncos only retained 50% of them and Reid hopefully can play this season…

I just don't see the Broncos valuing sacks as much as the fans do. Their secondary is incredible and the fact that they had two members of their secondary register at least two sacks shows to me that they may be more into playing defense like they play offense- ie: who the hell knows what they're going to come with.

The Broncos made no run at premiere pass rushers that were available, nor did they target anyone in the draft. With the overwhelming amount of talent they have at wide receiver, they could have gone olb or de in the draft the the Thomas or Tebow pick and they didn't.
