Demaryius Thomas

The Denver Broncos traded down twice and up once before finding their man. With the 22nd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Broncos selected wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech.

Thomas is 6’3″, 224 lbs. with a reported sub-4.5 40 time. According to his profile on NFLDraftCountdown.com, he has great physicality and speed but lacks polish in his route-running and catching. Thomas had a 25-yard average reception in the option and is renowned for his blocking.

The Broncos traded a fourth round draft pick to move up from 24 to select Thomas at 22.

The Broncos threw a number of curve balls in the first round, none moreso than skipping on WR Dez Bryant for Thomas. Personally I would have rather had Bryant and am disappointed McDaniels didn’t hold out longer, but I can’t complain too much because I love the fact that we traded down. What are your thoughts, Broncos fans?

    Please don't be another bust!

I keep waiting for Mc Daniels to something to build the team. He has already torn down what Shanahan had built. He got rid of some players I liked and some real pains in the team but it also appears that the only ego there is room for on the Broncos is Mc Daniels.

whose gonna be our center or middle linebacker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a great pick at the spot we got him in. Yeah, Dez Bryant is more polished but this kid has WAY more upside. We may have very well drafted the next Calvin Johnson if he can learn to run crisp routes.

Looks like we are going to be “in progress” for at least another year with this kid and Tebow learning the ropes though. Hopefully, McD has a plan for the defense to hold up in 2010

Demaryius Thomas (Bay, Bay) was an excellent pick! Go cuz, we're all behind you 100%!

  • Jarrod

To everyone who is getting wrapped up in the Tebow trade, don't forget we picked this guy too! He has the skills we wanted at WR w/out the character problems…Very solid pick.

  • L SMITH

BAY BAY, WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU IN DUBLIN GEORGIA!! WES AND FAMILY

GREAT PIC and the broncos will be very happy!!!

this is an amazing pick! first and foremost what every bronco fan tends to forget is that we aren't in the shanahan era anymore so stop acting like we are. what mcdaniels is trying to do is going to take some time and as loyal fans we just have to sit back and be patient. yes we need a LB and a C but we also need more recievers, running back, and hopefully tebow brings alot to the table. i'm excited about both our picks i see us having an explosive offense to go with our greatly improved defense. GO BRONCOS!

Okay look, I went to high school with Dez and at no point did he ever have any “character” issues. He was never in trouble with the law and never did anything wrong. He went to class and did what he was supposed to. So there are no problems with him. That being said the Broncos did not do a great job on completely evaluating Bryant. They picked Thomas because they thought he had better character. Bryant is definitely not a bad kid. I do like Thomas though, however Bryant is the more NFL ready receiver.

No they picked Thomas because he's a better over-the-top/jump ball threat and they needed Dallas to leapfrog Baltimore to get the Ravens to deal us the Tebow pick. If we took Dez then Baltimore stays put and waits for Thomas. Maybe genius or double-whammie stupid…

Thomas will probably be a Sydney Rice type that takes a little time to develop. Bryant will come on the scene and make the tough catches right away. I think Thomas has the long ball threat the Broncos have been looking for but they do need a QB to get it to him. Tebow has the arm but he to will take 2-3 years to develop. I see a 500 team for two years and then competing for AFC title. We are going to have to be patient with these picks. Last years picks of Ayers, Smith, McBath, Bruton, and Moreno will help a lot more this year than these rookies.

Thank God he ripped down what Shanahan built! Shanahan built medeocrity after he took the prominately Reeves built teams to the Supberbowl.

I FEEL YOU TOTALLY… I AM ALSO VERY EXCITED AND NO MATTER WHAT I WILL FOREVER REMAIN TRUE TO THE ORANGE AND BLUE…. GO BRONCOS…

Dez Bryant played two seasons and three games at Oklahoma State. If Dez Bryant is the “more polished” and “NFL ready” receiver despite his lack of experience, obviously he was the better choice.

Actually, Demaryius Thomas is a massive reach being drafted in the first round, and I believe will be a bust based on the expectations that come with being such a high pick.

The vast majority of his stats can be attributed to him being the primary reciever in the triple option that Georgia Tech ran during his time there. Because opposing teams were so focused on stopping the run, Thomas was often left in one on one coverage. His good height created a lot of positive matchups, and once he got past the cornerback, there was usually no one back to tackle him (again because most of the defense was up on the line trying to stop that triple option).

In the NFL he's not going to be given that luxury. With Brandon Marshall gone, that means Thomas will probably have to line up against the best cover corner on the defense, and when he does catch the ball, he will have to fight through the safties.

If you look at his numbers, he only had one year of college production at a high draft pick level, which means that the Broncos drafted him based on his final year alone. Usually players who are choosen based on one incredible year tend to play in the NFL much closer to their average years, which for Thomas means a second or third option at receiver. But the problem is that you draft premier receivers in the first round, and his inability to be that productive will make him seem all the more like a bust.

Definatly is a good pick dez bryant is going to be a dissapointment and isnt right for the broncos. As bay bay is a better pick because he plays more like brandon marshall and they need to fill in that spot. as for Tebow was also a alright pick i think the scrambling type of QB isnt what is right.Broncos should keep kyle orton as started and maybe move Tebow to TE or use him as a trade, to get a reciever or a back up QB with better accuracy. Bay Bay will need time to develop his game more so when he does Bay Bay and Eddie Royal will be a ultimate duo. also with the loss of Tony Scheffler they can for sure use Daniel Graham or Tebow as a TE. With all this said in a couple of years, Denver COULD be a top contender.
