In the wake of several defensive line signings this free agency defensive end Kenny Peterson has been released. With the possibility of all three free agent signees Jamal Williams, Justin Bannan, and Jarvis Green all being starters this upcoming season someone had to be the odd man out. Also waived was guard Mitch Erickson who has spent the last two seasons on the practice squad.
Kenny Peterson’s release is probably due to not only to the amount of players at his position but his age as well. Peterson is 31 whereas the other defensive ends on the bubble Ryan McBean, and Marcus Thomas are 25 and 24 respectively. Peterson’s contract probably had little to do with the release, he was only going to make around a million this season. So this decision is due to the upgraded players at his position. Press release after the jump.
