Free agent San Diego Chargers defensive lineman Jamal Williams is visiting the Denver Broncos Monday

The Denver Broncos are visiting with unrestricted free agent defensive lineman Jamal Williams today, tweets Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post. Per Lombardi, the longtime San Diego Chargers nose tackle is expected to take a physical in Denver.

Williams played under current Broncos defensive line coach Wayne Nunnely for much of his career (10+ years) when both were in San Diego.

Williams is scheduled to visit the New Orleans Saints if he and the Broncos don’t come to terms during this visit.

Combined with the signing of Justin Bannan on Friday, this would add some serious beef to that defensive line. Williams comes with serious injury concerns, and he isn’t the same dominant player he was five years ago. But he’s definitely worth a kicking-of-the-tires.

i like it. by no means a permenant solution, but good that we're looking.

Adds beef… yes. Not much else.

Anthony, what are you talking about? Jammal Williams is surely past his prime, but when he is on the field and healthy(only concern for us) he is a FORCE against the run and still a much superior NT than either Bannan or Fields. I'd expect us to platoon them with Williams primarly playing on 1st and running downs.

I'd really, really like to see this signing as if we did have him, and maybe Baker makes the team, than we could play Bannan at end occasionally going real big.

His age is my concern. Being in the middle of a 3-4 has got to be one of the more punishing positions in football and he was out all last year. Hey, if we can sign him and get another year or two great. If healthy he would certainly be an upgrade.

At some point we need to get that proven player in a key position that is still in his twenty's. I suppose that's life in the NFL right now… stop gap, stop gap, stop gap… until you draft the right guys.

Even if we took Thomas or Cody in the 1st it's absolutely no lock that they'd start, and I know for a fact they wouldn't if we signed Williams.

See: BJ Raji going 8th and hardly playing last year.
