Five Denver Broncos players have been named to the 2010 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced, representing a good mix of old and new to the NFL’s big show.

For veteran defensive backs Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins, it’s just another walk in the park, and just another February in a tropical climate. The defensive team captains will now boast a combined 17 Pro Bowl nods after both were named to the 2010 Pro Bowl Tuesday.

Meanwhile, offensive tackle Ryan Clady and outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil, two of the Broncos’ premier up-and-coming presences in the trenches, were each named to their first career Pro Bowls. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who broke the NFL’s single-game record with 21 receptions in Week 15, completes the quintet with his second career and second consecutive Pro Bowl.

Dumervil leads the NFL with 17 sacks, a franchise record, and a mark Bailey says puts the sack-master in another category.

“Pro Bowl? He should be defensive player of the year,” Bailey said. [Denver Post] “[…] He’s having a great year. I mean any time you average more than one (sack) a game, you’re pretty damn good.”

We’d say they all are. Well-deserved, Broncos. Now go make yourselves ineligible by qualifying for the playoffs and then the Super Bowl. Press release after the jump.

The Denver Broncos will be represented by five players in the 2010 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced.

Five members of the Denver Broncos were named to the 2010 Pro Bowl, the National Football League announced on Tuesday.

Cornerback Champ Bailey, tackle Ryan Clady (starter), safety Brian Dawkins (starter), outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil (starter) and wide receiver Brandon Marshall will represent the team at the league’s annual All-Star Game on Sunday, Jan. 31, at Dolphin Stadium in South Florida at 7:30 p.m. EST. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Denver’s five Pro Bowl selections mark its most in eight years (7 in 2001) and tie for the seventh most in a season in club history.

Bailey, in his 11th NFL season and sixth year with the Broncos, was named to the Pro Bowl for the ninth time to tie Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Haynes for the most in NFL history at the cornerback position. A team captain, Bailey has started all 15 games for Denver and ranks fourth on the club with 70 tackles (60 solo) while adding three interceptions, 13 pass breakups and one forced fumble.

Named to the Pro Bowl as a Bronco five times (2004-07 and ’09), Bailey is the 10th player in club history with at least five Pro Bowl selections. His five Pro Bowls tie Louis Wright (1977-79, ’83 and ’85) for the most by a cornerback in franchise annals.

Clady, whom the Broncos selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft from Boise State University, was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. A 15-game starter, Clady is only the 11th tackle in NFL history to earn a Pro Bowl selection within his first two professional seasons.

His nomination makes him the first Bronco to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl by his second season since running back Clinton Portis did so in 2003 as a second-year player. Clady is only the third tackle in team history to receive Pro Bowl honors, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Gary Zimmerman (1995-97) and Tony Jones (1998).

Dawkins, in his 14th NFL season and first year with the Broncos, was named to the Pro Bowl for the eighth time to tie for the third most in NFL history at the safety position. A team captain, Dawkins has started all 15 games and ranks second on the team with 108 tackles (88 solo) while adding two interceptions, 10 pass breakups, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

Dawkins, whose five takeaways tie for second in the AFC among safeties and equal the team lead, is the sixth safety in Broncos history to earn Pro Bowl accolades and the first since 2007 (John Lynch).

Dumervil, whom the Broncos selected in the fourth round (126th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft from the University of Louisville, was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. Dumervil leads the NFL with a club single-season record 17 sacks and is looking to become the first league season sack champion in Broncos history.

The fourth-year player has posted a franchise-record seven multiple-sack games that tie for the third most in a season in NFL annals. Appearing in 15 games (13 starts), Dumervil has totaled 48 tackles (41 solo), four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery along with his 17 sacks (88.5 yds.). He is the first Bronco to be named to the Pro Bowl at linebacker since 2006 (Al Wilson).

Marshall, whom the Broncos selected in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft from the University of Central Florida, was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career (2008-09). With 101 receptions (1,120 yds., 10 TDs) in 15 games (13 starts), Marshall became only the fifth player in NFL history to post three consecutive 100-catch seasons.

The fourth-year player, who ranks second in the league in receptions, set an NFL single-game record with 21 catches (200 yds., 2 TDs) at Indianapolis on Dec. 13. His 43 receptions in December (4 games) tied for the most through a team’s four-game period in the league since 1960.

Marshall joins Rod Smith (2000-01, ’05) as the only Broncos in club history to be named to the Pro Bowl multiple times at the wide receiver position.

    Boooooooooooooooo

Orakpo was named to the pro bowl too. oh wait we passed on him………….nevermind. ah but Cushing was named too, oh damn again we passed.

at least we have Moreno and Ayers…………….yes that silence is filled with the sound of crickets.

but in all seriousness there was gonna be serious consequences and reprocussions if Clady was left out again. Dawkins and Bailey got in just because they are Dawkins and Bailey.

  • DantePakistan

Clady is the best pass protector in the NFL and Marshall is at least a top 8 receiver, some could argue top 5. Dumervil has had an amazing season as well. All three spots are well deserved. Like kerry said, Dawk and Champ made it in on name alone, no longer elite players, definitely some more deserving players who should have their spots but it's a popularity contest.

  • robtink242

I not defending Robert Ayers But, haven;t you noticed the guy plays pure LB. Of course he blitz but never like Doom. the way i see it he went from college DE to ILB and thats a big move.

Moreno on the hand would have easily won Rookie of the Year if he could of keep the ball in his hands. I'll be making a personal observation to see who will have the most fumbles out of him and Adrian Peterson and him.

Brian Dawkins and Champ Bailey deserve the pro bowl. They should get something more than that for there play. Champ is on of the most targeted Corners in the game and still shuts downs opponents. Dawkins is purely the heart and soul of this defense. I could understand your statement if Darelle Revis didn't make it. But 21 Raiders, Revis, and Bailey are top 3 corners in the game.

i thought every person has his own way.Maybe that's the key point the team wins.So i don't agree with the first upstairs. It is so ex parte.NFL Draft

  • Pete

    kerry,
We've seen it all too many times with the Broncos, and with every NFL team. Just because a player is good in one city doesn't mean he'll be great in another. While it is fun to think that maybe Orakpo or Cushing would be pro bowlers for the Broncos, it is every bit as foolish to believe that they would.
The same is true in reverse. How many times do you see a bust on one team, only to see him tear it up with the next.
Orakpo and Cushing were known good players out of college, but so was Ayers and Moreno. For all we know, Orakpo and Cushing would be non-impact players for our team their rookie seasons. We've seen it with our team before, over, and over, and over again. What makes you think that they would be any different?
Instead of b1tching about who we have and who we could have had, just try to appreciate our season. If we keep playing the “coulda, woulda, shoulda” game, you'll drive yourself insane. I mean, right now, we could have a team with a future Hall of Famer at every position. Why did we pass on Tom Brady? Wes Welker? Nnamdi Asomugha, Brian Westbrook, Osi Umenyiora, Asante Samuel, Ed Reed, etc… Can you answer me that kerry? I mean, I'm sure you were up in arms when we didn't draft Tom Brady in the 1st round, right? Cause you KNEW 100% that he'd be a HOF QB, you just KNEW IT. We all take for granted that you can spot talent from miles away with 100% certainty. That you are absolutely infallible. Maybe we should all just sit back and marvel at your immense talent kerry. This world would be a much better place.

  • robtink242

Okay. My problem with the Broncos is if they wanted a LB they should of drafted a LB. I don't know if you seen Cushing play but the guys is a straight out beast. Even Clay Matthews would of been better than Ayers. Because these guys are LB's and where drafted LB's. I don't know if you noticed the weight Ayers has lost trying to adapt to his new position. He really should be play DE thats his natural position but if you asked me he 's learn LB pretty well.

  • Plato

Matthews and Cushing are obviously on steroids. Seriously. Matthews came to school a measly 170 lbs as a walk on and just a few years later he's competing for Rookie of the Year? Come on.

Orakpo is good, but he's lucky enough to play beside Andre Carter and Albert Haynesworth. It's ridiculous to speculate that he'd do just as well in Denver. For what it's worth I liked what I saw from Robert Ayers on Sunday, he's just a few steps away from a sack. Ayers was taken as a project and I think he'll develop nicely in the future.

  • anthony33

Yes… Ayers, Moreno and Smith all deserve on more year before being judged. Any yes… hindsight being 20/20, we should have taken Orakpo, Cushing, Mattews, Malaluga or even Laurinaits instead.

I know there is still a chance of the playoffs, but I am already looking forward to the offseason deals with free agents and the draft. While the 2009 draft class is still very suspect, you have to love what the Bronx did through free agency. Dawkins, Buckhalter, Hill, Fields, Davis, Gaffney, Holiday and Loyd have all been decent pick ups.

  • kerry

here is the thing, Orakpo has been playing from the OLB position in the 4-3 and still is sacking the QB. a switch to the OLB 3-4 position and he would have more sacks. Orakpo has 11 sacks and Ayers has a bunch of almost sacks. sorry but a few steps away from a sack isnt a sack. Ayers has 17 tackles on the season. Orakpo has almost as many sakcs as Ayers does Tackles. thats not good. and they were only selected a few picks apart.

and i dont believe Matthews or Cushing is on Steroids. both passed all his tests in school and in the NFL.

  • kerry

well Moreno isnt an elite back. he just isnt. the guy gets tackled more by the air then by defenders. you look at him and he just isnt a gamechanger. he has no speed, no power, horrible at Blitz pickup and fumbles too often. thats not what you want out of a 12th overall pick. ESPECIALLY when we had much bigger needs. Hillis could be averaging what Moreno is averaging without spending the top pick we had. and Peterson may have alot of fumbles, but the guy is a game changer and finds the end zone all the time. if Moreno found the endzone 10 plus times i wouldnt bash him so much.

yeah Dawkins deserves the Pro Bowl. Bailey just didnt have that stellar year like he used to. Revis is a freaking stud. so is Asomugha. i thought Jonathan Joseph would have gone before Bailey this year.

  • Seahorse

Kerry, that's a silly comparison…. Ayers has only been playing in Nickel situations and Okrapro has been starting.

  • robtink242

Moreno is a Work In Progress. the giants game he showed why he was a first round pick. But he a hot head runner with no vision. If he can some how calm down make the right reads he can do some damage. One that Moreno has over other backs is His balance. When he's playing like a professional he's very nimble and can be a human highlight reel. Unfortunately for us Brandon Marshall has to rough him up a week in advance for him to play like he should every week. There is no way he should not have a 100yd game with our OLine. Beenie Wells from Arizona could out rush him with a strong perfomance and thats on less carries.

  • kerry

no its not. if he is so good as some claim he is, he would be making contributions regardless of playing time or situations. Darcel McBath wasnt starting but has a couple INT's and made some good plays against the Colts. is that a silly comparison? not at all. some guys step up and play well regardless of starting or not.

and really when you look at it, the ONLY guys out of this past draft that have made impacts are McBath and Bruton.

Moreno- fumbles too much and gets tackled by air.
Ayers- has alot of almost sacks which dont count.
McBath- couple INT's and has made plays on ST's
    Smith-………………………..ill get back to you
Quinn- cleanest uniform on the team.
    Bruton- very good ST's player.
Olsen- hasnt seen the field. maybe next year at OG.
    Brandstater- possible starter next year.
Schluter- didnt make the final roster.

  • kerry

well my point is that we could have gotten then same production at RB without drafting Moreno. Buckhalter has no problem running behind our line but Moreno does. plus we have Dennison and Turner teaching this guy and he still cant make an impact.

  • Kurt

Way to go Doom and Clady! Congrats on your first and well deserved pro bowl selections. Marshall: I'm glad to see you make it again but more impressed with how you seem to have grown up this year. I hope you keep moving forward and are a Bronco in 2010 (you too Doom). Champ and BDawk: Keep up the good work gentlemen.

  • robtink242

Okay thanks for bringing that up. I didn't understand why we drafted Quinn now it makes no sense at all. 2nd round pick for 1 tip pass in a blow out game. He doesn't have good speed he hasn't caught a pass in more than a year. That mean Brandon Lloyd who played for the first time for the season has more catches. Quinn has be active just about every game. It just puzzles me. We could gotten Shonn Greene with that pick and use that number 12 pick on someone else. I would accepted Josh Freeman with that pick.

You don't need to get back with Smith at all. Lets but it in terms everyone can get “the guy sucks”. he's currently being replace by Tony Carter who is worth that 7th round pick we wasted on Schluter. McDaniels first draft has me puzzle.

  • DantePakistan

I'm with kerry on this one, the 09' class will go down as one of the worst drafts in recent history. We got absolutely no value in this draft, two bad first round picks, three if you include Alphonso as first since we gave up a first for him. Just an awful draft all around.
