Call it mojo, call it moxie, or call it football fundamentals — whatever the Denver Broncos were missing during their four-game losing streak, they were thankful to get it back Thursday night. 96 hours after INVESCO Field at Mile High saw the Broncos humiliated by a division foe, Denver returned to its winning ways with a 26-6 drubbing of the New York Giants
Defensively, the Broncos dominated. Linebacker Elvis Dumervil had two sacks and a forced fumble, extending his league-best sack total to a career-high 14. Safety Brian Dawkins, facing a New York Giants team he knew all too well from his days in Philadelphia, flew around the football field, forcing a fumble and recovering another before halftime. The Giants only tallied 38 net yards offense in the first half, and they only scored six points overall as Denver’s defense returned to its early season dominant form.
Offensively, the Broncos were thorough and efficient. Knowshon Moreno was dynamic in his runs, and Kyle Orton was a pressure-dodging surgeon. The Broncos overcame a myriad of penalties and a lone Orton interception to handle the G-Men’s defense with seaming ease.
Most of all, the Broncos proved to the world that their season isn’t over. With five games to play, they forced themselves back into the conversation with a convincing win. And for that, Broncos fans give thanks.
