With the division lead at stake, will the Denver Broncos have their starting quarterback?

Kyle Orton was seen both on and off crutches after Sunday’s loss to the Washington Redskins, fittingly mirroring the uncertainty surrounding his injured ankle that the Broncos face as they prepare for the 6-3 San Diego Chargers.

On Monday, Head Coach Josh McDaniels wouldn’t rule Orton out, but couldn’t commit to playing him, either.

“Not sure exactly how it’s going to go,” McDaniels said. “We’re going to see how he progresses over the course of the next few days.”

Backup Chris Simms will get the start if Orton can’t go.  McDaniels ruled right tackle Ryan Harris out for the third straight game.

“We’ll have to see if and when Kyle is ready to go – whether it’s Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or not at all – we’re going to have to see how it goes,” McDaniels said. “He’s definitely not out for the game. We’re hopeful he can be ready to go.”

This is bad news, I mean, not making the decision now to start Simms. If Coach McD thinks Orten could play, he won't give Simms the practice reps he needs to be ready. Simms lack of work in practice was pretty obvious yesterday.

Injury looked a lot like a high ankle sprain. Not good at all. Hopefully it isn't too bad and Orton can tape it up and play Sun. HUGE game, our season probably. I say if not Orton than Brandstater, Simms being a lefty alone is reason not to play him. I am no football coach but Clady is the weak side O lineman right?

Does anyone know why Brandstater is always inactive? Is it a contract thing or something? I think he has been listed as inactive all season? Let the big guy play if no Orton. Future might be here sooner than we think.

Ryan Leaf could have played a better game than Simms did yesterday. That was just plain awful! Give that young man a pat on the back and please then point him towards the exit!… Orton proved that this is his team for the rest of the season. I hope everyone will now shut up about him and let him play (if and when he is ready).

Simms was a train wreck, but I know he would do better if he practiced with the first offense all week. Even with Orton ready to go or not I'm sure MCD will make sure Simms gets practice with the first team this week.

Where is Brandstater? 6'5″ and beautiful arm makes the question, Who is Kyle Orton and why is he here? and, Why are they not starting this kid?
