Eddie Royal’s two return touchdowns earn special AFC honor

Not since 1961 had a Denver Bronco returned both a kickoff and punt for a touchdown in the same game (halfback Al Frazier), but that’s exactly what wide receiver Eddie Royal did Monday night. Royal returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of the Broncos’ 34-23 win over the San Diego Chargers, then added a 71-yard score on a punt return minutes later in the second.

That type of playmaking doesn’t go unnoticed, and the NFL did, informing the Broncos that Royal would be named the Week 6 AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Overall Royal returned five kickoffs for 158 yards (31.6 avg.) and three punts for 77 yards to give the Broncos the edge in a crucial AFC West battle on Monday Night Football.  His 235 total return yards set a franchise record.

Congratulations to Eddie on the first such award of his career.  The nods keep on coming for these 2009 Broncos!

    Two very electric moments at the Q last night. The second one brought as much noise out of the (I would say about 10K) Bronco fans that were there as the bolt fans were making at any given time. I feel honored to have been there to witness that in person!

    Ravens Steelers Giants Colts and Eagles….those are the teams left on our schedule that we need to beat to go better than 11-5…the other teams of course cannot be overlooked, especially our next meeting with vengeful San Diego…but if we can win those gimme games and beat San Diego at home, and then knock off the vulnerable Ravens, the second-half collapse Steelers, the injury-laden not so invincible Giants, the very vulnerable Raiders beat em Eagles…the only team that looks tough now on our tough as nails schedule is the undefeated Colts, but I think our defense will cream Manning with his rookie receivers…so yeah I'm going to say it, looks like we're in for a 16-0 season and McD upends Belichek!

    At the level we are playing I have to completely agree. Knocking on wood! I imagine we will lose at some point but I am having a tough time seeing where? We are crushing everyone in the 2nd half and Orton is looking like the guy that fits perfectly with McD's system.

    I put $20 down on Broncos winning the Superbowl back in July. Pays $1600!
