Broncos take control of AFC West with 34-23 win over Chargers

Ladies and gentlemen, your 6-0 Denver Broncos.

The Broncos swarmed Philip Rivers. They destroyed Ladainian Tomlinson. They dominated the Chargers‘ offensive line, Eddie Royal returned both a punt and kickoff for a touchdown, and Tony Scheffler became the latest Bronco to enjoy a breakout game as the Broncos knocked out the Chargers 34-23 in Week 6 action.

With the win, the Broncos move to 6-0 and gain a 3-1/2 game lead over the defending AFC West champion Chargers.

Again, the defense shut down its opponent in the second half. The Chargers converted only one third-or-fourth down, and that was off a (bogus) pass interference penalty on Andre Goodman. The offense wasn’t as explosive as the past few weeks, but made just enough plays to win — not that they needed to be with Royal’s 14 Special Teams points.

Denver heads into its bye healthy, happy and undefeated. Broncos Country, enjoy. What a special season.

    A DIE HARD Broncos fan for 40 years, through the bard times,the worse times and the great years. But I have NEVER been as stunned as I am this season … not Josh McDaniels, not the new Offense and Defense, not Mike Nolan, not giving up a Pro Bowl quarterback, not stunned by Kyle Orton, not even as stunned by Shanahan's dismissal. No … what stuns me … these unbelievably stupid, sophomoric, lame brain and disgraceful uniforms! Whoever thought up this stunt needs to go to Afghanistan and sell Women's Liberation. That's how stupid this is. I cannot, in a family forum, tell you the comments made around water coolers, our television set and the comments that get texted over these uniforms. This is so far beyond stupid it's like an alien version of stupid. Whoever is repsonsible needs to DIAF.

    At the end of the game, Josh said we have alot to improve upon….agreed if you expect to win in the playoffs and this team does.

    uh… jack…. they are uniforms… it's not like they just decided to pick horrible colors and wear them. they are 50th anny uniforms, its a tribute. are you a fan or a fashion annalist… oh yeah, we are 6-0 in all our uniforms! who cares what we are wearing?! this is a way the NFL can make some more money on different jerseys and it's a business, it's their right.. i think the yellow and brown are awesome! so when you “water cooler” friends curse about how ugly they are…try talking about football matters! “Gee, those unis were awful!” is where you say “Doesn't seem to matter what we wear, put us out here in pink and white for all i care… the broncos are 6-0!”

    if you are not stunned by any of that stuff, and upset about the unis, i'm gonna say you've spent the last 40 years looking at the wrong thing…

    I must admit I was a little nervous about this game especially after Dawkins went out. However this team keeps proving it is nothing like it has been for the last 10 years; Getting turnovers, tackling, pressuring the QB (that was great seeing Rivers on the ground the whole second half), even scoring on a kick return for the 1st time since 2000, finishing games, and oh yeah … tackling. We just took San Diego's best shot and came out on top. And what is scary is that we can still be better as we are still making some boneheaded mistakes (BM). It's actually kind of funny seeing Stokley come up and hold on to BM after every play trying to keep him under control.

    btw Jack, you can blame the NFL for the uniforms as they are making all the orig AFL teams wear them. They have to wear them at least twice and up to four times. The Broncos chose to wear them the minimum 2 times. I actually don't think they are that bad except for the socks and I kind of like the # on the helmet. Besides we beat two pretty good teams in them.

    Is Clady' streak over now? Seems he gave one up to English although it was more Orton's fault and then Clady kind of pushed him into Orton.

    Yeah, and he actually lost it last week to Tully Banta-Cain. That's 2 sacks in 2 weeks by Clady, who hadn't given up a full sack in 20 previous. Neither were bad plays or anything… he'll bounce back.

    Thanks. Yeah, not that big of a deal. It was kind of cool while it lasted. Orton holds on to the ball longer and is not as mobile as Cutler so you can't blame that on Clady. He is still the best young LT in the NFL.

    It couldnt be more clear that we have the most talented coaching staff in the league… they are quickly getting a reputation for weekly preparation and getting players to believe in each other and the system. Our 2nd half adjustments are incredible and we finish games. The O line is keeping Orton's jersey clean and Orton is quietly winning games by not making mistakes and making clutch plays. This defense believes and seems confident and hungry… that is a direct reflection of this coaching staff. During the bye week we need to work on 3rd and 1's (i feel better when its 3rd and 8 instead of 3rd and 1) and the RB's need to hold on to the ball… Im grateful that these coaches get 2 weeks to prepare for a tough ravens team… No team in the league seems more prepared than the broncos through 6 weeks. This was a great game… cannot get enough of seeing rivers on his back and norv scratching his head. This is the type of game that will keep you smiling all week…

    I had the best time watching this game I was the only Broncos fan in the place. Most of my buddies are charger fans and of course they wanted to see the game at the local charger place. Just the look on their faces when I walked in wearing Bronco gear PRICELESS!! I must say there was only a few smack talkers but quickly shut their traps when they realized this was not going to be a charger victory. 6-0 believe it Bronco Fans what a game!!!!

    That was awesome! Now I'm worried we might lose Nolan next year. What he's done with this defense is stunning.

    Orton does not get the flashy points but he flat out wins… He has 11TDs? and 1 INT off a hail mary… Wow! the O line deserves a lot of credit but as far as QB play Orton controls the tempo, makes clutch throws, and doenst make stupid mistakes… the guy deserves some major credit for this start to the season.

    I have been watching the Bronco's for 30+ years. I barely remember the Orange Crush. My point is that this is the first defense that I have seen that doesn't want to give up anything! Every Denver defense I have ever watched would have given up a touchdown knowing that they were up 11 points. I LOVE THIS DEFENSE!

    Two weeks to prepare for the Ravens! Their defense is solid, but McD and Nolan will have another master strategy even if it evolves in the 2nd half. I had my Eddie Royal jersey on all day today working in the yard thinking about the game. I was so pleased, to say the least! Go Broncos!

    With the exception of the socks, I like them. Plain, simple and tough look.

    Kind of wish they would stay in them all year, again, with the exception of those socks.

    Maybe another cerimonial burning of the socks should take place this Sunday in lieu of a Bronco game???

    Funny you mention you'd rather have third and six or eight as opposed to third and one. I said the same thing on several occasions last night.

    They are going to have to start throwing, screening or doing some odd ball things on third and one for a while to loosen things up a bit.

    There is no doubt to what you said about him. Been very impressed with his football IQ so far. The guy is smart and makes up for not having a gun for an arm with good common sense… The sack he took near the end of regulation of the NE game was a good example. He was in big trouble and for a second I thought he might try and force it out into traffic, which he had time to do. He ate it like he needed to and the punt helped insure OT. And of course that very big win.

    Loved how Phyllis ran his mouth even after just putting up a nice 3 -n- out on his first series. That was the last of him I saw talking. He took a nice hit to the mouth all night long. Way to go Bronx and congrats to a great start!!
