The Denver Broncos defense shut out the New England Patriots in the second half, Kyle Orton was spectacular, and Josh McDaniels out-coached his mentor Bill Belichick as the Broncos beat the Patriots 20-17 in overtime!

For the second week, the Broncos had to dig themselves out of a 10-0 hole in the first quarter. For the second week, they trailed at halftime. For the second week, the defense shut out the opposing team, and the offense made the clutch plays when they counted.

In fact, Denver opponents are two for 31 on third down conversions in the second half. Furthermore, Denver hasn’t allowed a 2nd half third-down conversion in three weeks! Simply stellar.

Meanwhile, it’s time to put Kyle Orton in the Pro Bowl conversation, and the Broncos in the playoffs one. GO BRONCOS! 5-0!

  • Michigan Bronco

The defence has been great from day one. The offense has gotten better and better each week. This was a great game and a near perfect performance by Orton!!! Go Orange and……err…… Brown and Yellow!!

  • flbronc

what a game. 5-0. nice game kyle and nice game coach mcd.

i think it shows a lot that we were able to come back from 10 down two weeks in a row- without panic, and without the rollover. i felt like we were going to be able to stop ne on their last drive, i havent felt that way about our defense for the last 5 years.

  • broncobobmeridian

Orton looked really good today. Do you think alot had to do with the glove being off?

  • Rick Singer

McDaniels showed a real lack of class in failing to go out to meet Coach Belichick and congratulate him on a great game. Belichick is, after all, McDaniels' mentor, and probably the person most responsible for McDaniels' being where he is today. Booooo!!

  • therealch3

Kyle Orton is going to be interviewed by Costas during halftime of Sunday Night Football.

Let's hope it goes better than the Leno interview in week 1!

  • flbronc

rick i thought he was looking for him, bill looked for about 20 seconds then took off. when mcd couldnt find him, he ran over to the crowd.

  • http://americablog.com magster

The Patriots screwed up by going conservative with the lead, and then losing their rhythm when they needed to turn it on again. Denver earned the win with the brilliant drive, but the Patriots beat themselves as well.

  • Dan

    Rick,

They could not find each other. They are friends.

  • mikey55

    WILDHORSES YEA!

  • troyn

If KO plays like that all the time, this team has some serious possibilities. Great job coach McD and staff, once again, the team looked poised and prepared.

  • cptmorni

dude they were hugging before the game don't put much into it. McDaniels was excited and let his emotions go. He wasn't thinking about meeting Bill he was thanking the crowd.

  • jibbons

    C'mon 5-0!!!

  • joe417

Fa…fa…fa…five and O??? Denver? Na, can't be. Can it? I thought all the “experts” said we would only win 3 or 4 games. Aren't we supposed to suck? Oh ya we found that missing D. And now were 5 and O. Great game today. Great game. We will be watching this game more during the week, as I bet it will be played on replay. Now let's go to San Diego and kick some ass!!!!

  • cptmorni

    Orton Takes the Glove off!!!!!!!

  • Jack

    Kyle, you must be psychic.

  • Ladd

That is by far the most impressive this Offense has looked…some of those KO completions were things of beauty. And the Defense just rocks!! 5-0 and looking for more.

  • robtink242

beautiful game. Really hope we could trade Jarvis Moss for a returner.

  • Broncos4ever

Our coach needs a moniker. How about Josh 'The Real Deal' McDaniels.

  • robtink242

good to see EDDIE ROYAL & B MARSH & TONY SHEF. man next year this is going to be a dangerous team.

  • WhidbeyBronco

    silly man. He tried.
    Seriously?
Negative about Josh after that win and his AWESOME display of emotion after the win!!!???

  • WhidbeyBronco

    yeehaw!!
    YEEHAW!!
    yes.
    so happy!

  • Nisse

    next year? what?!?!?!

  • TheTroglodyte

    3 words. Eat Crow Kerry!

  • steeplebomb

What?!? Are you letting your hatred of Orton blind you that much? The dude had an awesome game! As Brian Dawkins would say, 5-0 is nothing to hang your hat on but come on. Give credit where credit is due. Orton had a stellar game. End of story.

  • waylon

    Love it!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

    You gotta credit the defense.

  • Name

I have to admit I was not an Orton fan and McD worried me, but I am a believer as is the rest of the NFL. Congrats to a guy who stuck with it and new his system would work. I beliebe McD might have more to do with Brady's success than anyone knows. This guy makes average QB's look great and I am one happy fan!!!! Way to go!!!

  • Trent

haha.. i love this orton without a glove looks great! mcD is such a great coach giving it up to the fans and saying how much he loves it here and the fans. all is good i gotta admit i was pretty worried seeing cutler go. but ball controll is what its about and orton and mcD are proving it! Thank you mcD for bringing some real fun back to denver football. its still early but some real promise in this team and for years to come!!

  • MeOMy

Didn't get to see much except the 1st quarter and over time but from what I did see I think Orton, who has been getting a little better each week, took a huge step forward this week.

Denver was also able to give Brady another first. They gave him his first playoff loss and now they have given him his first over time loss.

  • nkdlunch

so long as as orton continues to play relatively mistake free and is able to keep Royal and Marshall involved, this team not only can play with anyone, but is one of the elite teams in the league. the defense hasn't allowed a point in the second half against dallas or ne and moreno is a serious talent. that kid is not only explosive, but is showing he can run between the tackles as well. look for him to start busting longer and longer runs as he adjusts more to the speed of the nfl. one area of concern is that we got no pressure on the qb today (although how good does that make our secondary, if, with essentially no pressure, brady only throws for 200 yards).

at the end of the day, this team can straight up play on both sides of the ball and anyone who thinks this team isn't a heavy contender hasn't been watching football and is judging the broncos on everything except their on field performance. i'm done having the conversation about whether or not this team is real. they can lose next week (i don't think they will) and they'll still be for real.

the ONLY conversation that should be entertained by anyone who talks intelligently about football is whether or not the broncos are the best team in the nfl. right now, i say no. you still have to like what the colts and giants are doing. but that is a far more legitimate conversation than whether or not a 5-0 team that has allowed fewer than 9 points a game is a good team or not.

and chargers fans, shut the hell up. you had your few years where you could have won a super bowl. this franchise is headed back in the right direction while yours is coming to its slow end (good-bye LT, I must admit I feared facing almost no one like I feared you). im not saying itll come fully to pass this year, but the broncos are back on the road to beating the piss out of you year in and year out. you. are. done.

  • vince_mairne

Rick Singer…If you watched the post game interviews the two agreed not to shake hand at midfield because of Belichick's past history with that. They waived at each other and that was it. Not a big deal!

The game was great! This has been one of the most exciting seasons I can remember! The offense is clicking, the defense is playing out of their minds and the special teams (while not that special today) is doing great. Keep it up Broncos!

Kerry!!!! Oh Kerry!!!! Where are you? I want to hear comments on why Orton sucks now! I don't think you have any this week, huh? lol!

  • oldcoachB

Well the Orton haters are sufficiantly quiet, the Wildhorse is alive and well. Phil Simms has good reason to cheer for the Broncos, and the outside world is shocked. Not only am I drinking the McDaniels kool-aid but most importantly the players are as well. When B-Marsh is using words like” stay humble” and, ” just fun to be part of something special”, you know that the lockerroom is 100% bought in. Today we got to see McD's offensive genius forcing the Pats to remain in a base defense that Orton, the accurate short passer that he is, picked apart. However, the most amazing part of this game was the D's ability to stop Brady and the Pats essentially three times in a row afer the two agreegious special teams errors( roughing the kicker, and offsides) gave a great quarterback and excellent offense two extra chances. It takes great chemistry to work past that type of adversity.

  • anthony33

    RS,
Before you shoot your mouth you ought to know at least a couple of facts. One fact is they met before the game and agreed to just wave to each other after the game. Two, it is Belichik that does not shake hands.

  • anthony33

    Excellent.

Defense had their challenges at times, as every defense in the NFL has had against Brady, but overall played extremely well again. I am starting to sound like a broken record, Dawk is the best free agent aquisition of the year and maybe the best one in Broncos history.

Offense had it's break out game today. Orton was just great today and you kind of saw this coming, but man, not to this extent.

I ate half the bowl of crow last week on Marshall and am happy to report I finshed the rest of it today. Never thought crow could taste so good.

Moreno will continue to get better, but not quite what I expected at this point.

    Ayers is coming along slowly.

I would not want to be on the punt return team come Monday, going to be a long week for those boys.

This coaching staff is not going to get out coached.

This team is not going to cave in like they have over the past few years.

Tough, smart and physical football. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • postalmoose

I have been one of the few syaing all along that the Broncos would be fine. The defense is awesome but the offense would and will come around. It is called blind faith. Go Broncos.

  • broncoNM

What a game from KO! The guy was making some very tough throws and he was right on target the entire game. Ortons performance proved a lot today. He spread the ball, made tough throws, avoided sacks and protected the ball. Orton seemed solid in the pocket with no jittery feet and with confident decision making… I give Orton player of the game. Orton took what the defense gave him and he seem to understand the game plan (Orton took advantage of McDs play calling).

Cheers to these coaches… We are finishing games! Good teams finish games… and it takes excellent coaching and preparation to have more points than the other team by the end of the game. Our coaches seem to come prepared and make the appropriate changes at halftime. I could get used to these 2nd half surges and shutouts. Broncos are out scoring opponents 56-7 in the 2nd half.

  • mikebirty

“it’s time to put Kyle Orton in the Pro Bowl conversation”

Isn't the Pro Bowl being played the week BEFORE the superbowl???? That's all I'm saying.

The D in the second half were just out of this world. Now do the one thing that the Broncos haven't been able to do for the past few years, hand it to SD in their own house and make Rivers eat dirt.

  • http://manchester-architects.com T-Money

Defense got this one for sure! Regardless of the ridiculous penalties we stopped them 3…THREE times at the end of the game. THREE TIMES. That's a serious statement!

  • http://manchester-architects.com T-Money

    Enough said!

  • http://manchester-architects.com T-Money

Those balls had zip, were rarely under thrown and almost always a tight spiral. I'm saying yes to the glove question.

  • http://manchester-architects.com T-Money

Actually, in McD's interview after the game he says that the two of them agreed to just wave and not shake hands after.

  • Andpark

    ORTON is the man!

Taking the glove off and kicking ass. So much tighter and more zip too. Really got the ball into small pockets and I love to see him utilizing Marshall and Royal too. I am completely convinced now.

I am sorry buddy I am on board now Orton!

  • jbirchbronco

Speaking of Kerry, where is he? Did he hibernate for the winter? Haven't heard from him at all. Oh where oh where did our Kerry go? Oh where oh where could he be?

  • Sam

Once again! Orton Hears a OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
    Go Broncos!

  • rcsodak

Maybe if you weren't in such a hurry to bash McD, you'd have spent 10 seconds and found where the two had PRE-ARRANGED to meet INDOORS, afterwards. They didn't want to create a big scene, regardless of the outcome……

..unlike the people that call themselves fans. :coffee:
